Having moved on from Chandler Jones, the Raiders are without a projected starter amongst their edge rush contingent. The team is eyeing a replacement for at least the remainder of the season.

Jones was inactive throughout the beginning of the campaign as his off-field situation spiraled quickly. After the four-time Pro Bowler was arrested, though, Vegas made the expected move of releasing him. The Raiders still have Maxx Crosby in place as their pass-rushing anchor, but a new veteran presence would be welcomed. The team is eyeing a trade acquisition in that regard, Dianna Russini of The Athletic reports (subscription required).
Russini adds that Vegas has been active contacting teams for a potential addition, and that a player-for-player swap would be preferred. That comes as little surprise, as the 1-3 outfit would be well-suited to retain as much of its draft capital as possible. The Raiders might not be prepared to pay a signficant price in a rental move, Russini notes.
Crosby has posted a team-leading four sacks this year, but no other Raider has recorded more than one, and no other edge rusher has any. Collectively, Vegas’ total of seven ranks just 26th in the league, proving the need for reinforcements along the edge. Given the fact any move would likely involve a player on an expiring deal being acquired, a relatively small addition would likely be involved. A starting-caliber arrival would, on the other hand, allow first-round rookie Tyree Wilson to continue operating in a rotational role.
The No. 7 pick in April’s draft was originally ticketed for a part-time workload behind Crosby and Jones, but the latter’s departure altered those plans. Wilson has logged a 41% snap share through four games, and he has yet to register a sack or QB pressure. Providing a veteran insurance policy would be a welcomed move for his development, but it will be interesting to see how interested teams are with respect to moving on from a depth member of their own edge rush group.
The Raiders currently have just under $11MM in cap space, which puts them in better financial shape than most teams around the league. While their record would suggest a seller’s status, their interest in making at least one addition before the October 31 trade deadline will be an interesting story to follow.

Aldon Smith: “All I need is just one more chance”.
Davante Adams in a deal for Brian Burns and Derrick Brown. Panthers n Raiders can hammer out rest of the deal to make it work.
Would you trade 2 in their prime mid 20 year olds for a 30+ year old WR? Why?
Burns is a free agent at seasons end.
Brown has 1 more year on his rookie contract.
Extensions don’t seem likely.
Adams gives the Panthers the #1 receiver they’re looking for for Bryce Young.
Also. The deal isn’t Adams for Brown and Burns. That’s the main framework but other assets will likely be involved.
Tag them or trade them for 1st round picks. Not a washed up WR. Adams has been great, but 30+ year old players flame out quickly.
Rams offered 2 1st round picks for Burns. Why not trade him then?
“Washed up”
Yeah top 10 in yards so far with a horrible offense and inconsistent qb play in 2023 totally makes adams washed up.
Carolina probably hoped they’d work out a long term extension by now.
Unfortunately they don’t seem anywhere close.
Panthers should have taken the Rams deal. But to say they shouldn’t trade him when he’s an impending free agent if he won’t sign an extension cause they were stupid and didn’t take a massive overpay isn’t a good argument.
Franchise tag him? Why not trade him and put that money elsewhere on the roster to help Bryce Young out. Carolina is already without their 1st round pick this year (looking top 10 if not top 3). At best they’d get a late round 1st for burns. Similar to chubb trade. Doesn’t really help Bryce Young out. And not like 2024 has a promising WR free agent market.
If they can’t work out an extension turning him into assets for your rookie qb makes more sense than franchise tagging him.
So your plan would be to re-boot on both O & D at the same time? That gets rookie QB’s killed and coaches fired. 3 years later a whole new GM/HC/QB trio then.
It’s been proven a thousand times over, you don’t trade for 30+ year olds. At least not for a long term plan. I can see KC going for Adams. They have a stud QB & need an upgrade at WR to help with another championship. Adams isn’t going to help a rookie QB. And all off season and now season, its clear Adams won’t keep his mouth shut, his right, but that’s not going to help a struggling rookie QB. Being barked at by Adams.
Not a washed up WR.
======================
That’s one of the worst takes I have ever seen. The Raiders are still weak, but Adams is still one of the best in football.
Why don’t extensions seem likely? They have a qb on a rookie deal. Why wouldn’t they extend blue chip talent?
0 logic
Seems like a Raider move to be worried about adding an edge rusher to a team that’s going nowhere this year. They should trade Crosby – who is likely worth a couple of good picks – in order to help improve NEXT YEAR’S team.
I agree. Raiders should be sellers, not buyers.
That’s Josh M dream. Adams and Crosby and Jimmy G should all be traded. Fire the coach and let the season wind down with the team meeting expectations rather than failing to meet them again. Raiders suck
If that were to happen, just think about how inept the ‘NE dynamic duo’ would be! They re-upped Carr, & Crosby, traded for Adams, & signed Jimmy only to have all 4 out the door under 2 year time period. Wow, that would have to be a new level of stupidity. Especially for mastermind Josh, right? Is there even another example that could/would match that?

Romeo Okura from the Lions
Derek Barnett for Renfrow
