The Broncos are positioned to once again play the role of sellers at the trade deadline. That could lead to a few noteworthy players heading out of the Mile High City, including wideout Jerry Jeudy.
The former first-rounder has routinely found himself in trade talk in recent years, despite insistence from the Broncos he has never been shopped in a potential deal. Denver was connected to an asking price of a first-round pick for Jeudy during the offseason, and it remains unlikely the team would land a haul that lucrative at this point. The 24-year-old is on the books for the remainder of 2023 as well as next year on the fifth-year option.
The Broncos’ decision to pick up Jeudy’s option – a move which locked him into a guaranteed salary of $12.99MM – appears to be a sticking point in trade talks. Adam Caplan of Pro Football Network reports that interested teams have no issue taking on Jeudy’s remaining compensation for this year (a prorated portion of his $2.68MM base salary), but that his option for next year is serving as a “deterrent.”
The Alabama alum entered the league with considerable expectations as the No. 15 pick in the 2020 draft, but things have not entirely gone according to plan. Jeudy, like several other Broncos wideouts, has battled injuries during his time in Denver, and when healthy he has posted less-than-spectacular numbers. A career high in catches (67), yards (972) and touchdowns (six) offered a glimpse of what he could produce with new head coach Sean Payton at the helm. However, the 2023 campaign has seen him record more than 52 yards in a game only once so far, and he has yet to find the end zone.
Both Jeudy and fellow receiver Courtland Sutton are among the Broncos’ trade chips leading up to the October 31 trade deadline. Denver is prepared to listen to offers on any number of contributors (including, of course, those whose arrival predates that of Payton and general manager George Paton). The willingness of contending teams to make a commitment not only for the rest of this year but also 2024 in Jeudy’s case will be worth watching in the coming days and weeks.
I think the one big issue with this team is they aren’t letting Russ cook
Like when Quincy Williams of the Jets punched the ball free for Bryce Hall to scoop-and-score the TD that put the Broncos away.
Russell is cooked, watch a game or 2.
The Broncos need put Sean up for a trade!
Jeudy to Panthers
Sutton to Packers
Or vice versa.
49ers could also jump in on one given the injury troubles to Samuel this year
As a panthers fan (yes we exist but it’s pain), I’d rather have Sutton. Especially after Steve Smith ripped Jeudy, I just don’t see a clear place for him in Charlotte
Anyone who follows Steve Smith’s advice should never be allowed to make personnel decisions in the NFL. For example, he was a strong supporter of the Denver trade for Wilson.
Smith just likes hearing himself talked, and perhaps more importantly, talked about
Jeudy to Giants. Sutton to Chiefs or Raiders if raiders trade renfrow which they most likely will
Renfrow to Rams or Ravens.
Giants already have plenty of WRs who can put up the mediocre numbers that Jeudy can. Plus it doesn’t really matter who they have at WR if the OL is terrible.
Giants have mediocre WRs. I’m already hearing trade rumors for Paris Campbell.
True, but as rct said, the Giants’ line hampers whatever other offensive improvements might be made. There are a few teams like that right now-NYG, NYJ, the Patriots, the Steelers, and the Vikings all stand out. All of these teams could gain from WR additions in various capacities, but all of them have terrible offensive line play as their worst issue by far. Coincidentally, all have QBs taking the brunt of the blame. Some deserve it more than others, but the point remains.
Jeudy probably upgrades that room, but without offensive stability, he won’t put up more than he is in Denver right now. That’s not to say that he’s useless, but it wouldn’t be a move that helps significantly right now.
Giants can make multiple moves though
That’s true, and they would need to to get the most out of this move. I actually think Sutton is more of what they need, in terms a good size/speed outside combination, but Jeudy would still be an upgrade, so it would still help-if the Giants had the offensive line to take advantage. Without that, the moves won’t raise the ship much I don’t think.
Hmmm
Does Jeudy begin this week with the Broncos and end it by traveling back with Green Bay?…
I know Miami is the most recent “Island of Lost Toys” but, iirc, doesn’t Chicago have the draft capital & cap to add a compliment to DJ?
the bears should be in on this for sure. either Sutton or jeudy would be an upgrade on their secondary WRs. the bills and chiefs should also be looking at this.
The Jay Cutler trade should have convinced the Bears to avoid dealing with the Broncos on a permanent basis.
Why wouldn’t the Bears wait until free agency? They are going nowhere this year, might end up with two top picks and have all the time in the world. Jeudy at a $ 12m cap hit isn’t any sort of bargain, either.
Gruß,
BSHH
Hard pass. He looks like he plays better in the still photos than he does in a game. I can’t pay 12mil for that.
According to Spotrac, I think they predict 22 million.
Yeah, Im with you. Im leaning not interested – but I feel myself wanting to buy in.
Steve Smith made his trade value worth gold too lol.
Denver needs to focus on getting its execution right before they start worrying about trading away talent.
But I’m sure that they’ll succumb to the idea that selling always improves the team. Selling is not the right solution for their situation. Ultimately, someone else will be traded away due to the failure of their quarterback to execute the offense properly.
Ive liked JJ since he was a prospect, and I can build a very compelling argument why he hasn’t lived up to his draft status.
I also really want to upgrade the Bills WR2…but I just can’t truly get excited about thinking about JJ to the Bills possibly. I think I have doubts about trading for him and then paying him WR1 salary.
I don’t mean to say I am closed off this mental exercise, but I have doubts. The trade price matters. What used to be rumored as a first round pick is a hard pass for me, but something like a third makes me pause and consider a little more – mostly bc there probably isn’t a better upgrade available.
But then, what about Gabe? I think JJ is probably an upgrade, and I like Gabe. If you ask me if I would rather pay JJ or Gabe – its JJ…but Im not sure I want to pay either.
Someone needs to get open more consistently in Buffalo besides Diggs. At the very least JJ shakes it up and wouldn’t require Kincaid to be taken off the field.
For my Bills, Im intrigued. For the Chiefs, Im probably having FOMO.
Jeudy is certainly an upgrade to the weapons available. Coming into the league and having no clue what a professional franchise is supposed to look like can hurt a young player. I’ve said it many times-I do not think that trading away talent with Wilson on that deal will fix the Broncos. However, if Jeudy or Sutton goes to a contending team (like Buffalo) or even one with a more professional and put together atmosphere (like Pittsburgh), they will play much better than in Denver.
The Broncos have a lot of talent, but no stability, leading to massive underachievement. If Denver decides to trade those talented players, they will likely perform better for whomever acquired them. More of the same (losing or instability) probably won’t change much (like in, say, Chicago). In Jeudy’s case, I think he would work inside mostly in Buffalo, which should help his efficiency off the bat. It would be an upgrade to the Bills’ receiving corps from an on-field perspective, and he and Davis could always alternate roles inside and outside to give the offense more flexibility.
Diggs will always get 3X the targets no matter who else is on the field; whether he’s open or not. If I were a Bills fan it would drive me up the wall
Because he actually catches the ball. Allen knows who he can depend on when he needs a first down and he hasn’t had a consistent second look receiver since Cole Beasley was in his prime.
Blah Blah Blah. Post an article when something happens.
I mean, it’s a rumors site my man. Not sure what you want, here.
@highaltitude. Comment of the day.
So the point of an article on the latest on Jeudy….is there’s nothing new bit we’ll rehash the same topic in the same manner again. I honestly don’t think the writer actually knows what the basic tenets of journalism is supposed to be.
Whatever value he has is clearly value the Broncos could use later rather than now. When you go completely all in for a qb with draft compensation and a big contract you really can’t miss. It may take years to recover from this barring a turnaround on Wilson’s part. The Broncos needed an absolute stud to make up for the cap hit and lack of first round picks to bolster the roster. What they’ve gotten has been hot garbage. Idk how they aren’t really bad for a handful of years unless draft extremely well and find guys in later rounds. I have no solid suggestions other than play your best players. If you find a qb in the second or third round who’s better and has a longer future play him
