The Ravens have become the second AFC North team to announce their class of undrafted free agents. After having a unusually low six picks in the draft, Baltimore has a large contingent of UDFAs this year. Here is the full list:
- FB/DT Levi Bell (Texas State)
- DT Trey Botts (Colorado State-Pueblo)
- DT Kaieem Ceasar (Ohio)
- WR Dontay Demus Jr. (Maryland)
- G Tykeem Doss (Southern Mississippi)
- QB Nolan Henderson (Delaware)
- G Jake Guidone (UConn)
- OLB Malik Hamm (Lafayette)
- T Brandon Kipper (Oregon State)
- CB Jeremy Lucien (Vanderbilt)
- G Tashawn Manning (Kentucky)
- CB Corey Mayfield Jr. (UTSA)
- RB Keaton Mitchell (East Carolina)
- WR Sean Ryan (Rutgers)
- OLB Kelle Sanders (Alabama-Birmingham)
- TE Travis Vokolek (Nebarska)
- TE Brian Walker (Shepherd)
- RB Owen Wright (Monmouth)
The last time the Ravens drafted a quarterback who played at Delaware was Joe Flacco in 2008. The latter helped lead the team to a Super Bowl title, but the same will certainly not be expected of Henderson, who had a career-best 3,231 passing yards and 32 touchdowns last season. The Ravens’ backup and third-string signal-callers (Tyler Huntley and Anthony Brown) both joined the team as UDFAs, so Henderson could have a path to at least a practice squad spot.
Mitchell – the son of former Ravens safety Anthony Mitchell – had a highly productive college career. He saw his yards per carry mark increase in each of his three seasons, and his 7.2 mark in 2022 led the AAC. The 5-9, 188-pounder recorded 1,704 scrimmage yards and 15 total touchdowns last season, but the each of the Ravens’ top three running backs from 2022 are on the books for the coming campaign. That should limit Mitchell’s opportunities to make the 53-man roster.
Demus showed potential at times during his Maryland career, but also missed action due to injuries. His best season came in 2019 (41 catches, 625 yards, six touchdowns), and he totaled 2,008 yards and 14 scores overall. The Ravens have made a number of high-profile moves at the WR position this offseason, but a back-of-the-roster spot could be available if Demus (or Ryan) stand out during the summer.
QB Hend
This is now the 4th team I’ve seen sign a player from Shepherd College’s football team.
The 49ers, Bears, Bucs, and the Ravens each signed a player from this school that I’ve never even heard of before!!..lol
Supposedly, I know the OL the 49ers signed managed 40 bench press reps at his pro-day, and alsp somehow tested as one of the most athletic OL in the Draft.. I think it might have been Kiper that even had as high as a 3rd Round grade on Joey Fisher..
While I highly doubt all four of these guys make their team’s roster, I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised to see them make their team’s Practice Squad.
Good for these guys, and this has to be some amazing exposure for Shepherd College and their PR team has to be having a field day with all of this great news…!!
Does anyone else know anything about this school??
They were pretty good in D2 last year. This is from Wikipedia: “The 2022 Shepherd Rams football team represented Shepherd University as a member of the East Division of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) during the 2022 NCAA Division II football season. Led by fifth-year head coach Ernie McCook, the Rams compiled an overall record of 13–2 with a mark of 7–0 in conference play, winning the PSAC East Division title. Shepherd lost the PSAC Championship Game to West Division champion IUP. The Rams advanced to the NCAA Division II Football Championship playoffs, where they beat New Haven in the first round, Slippery Rock in the second round, and IUP in the quarterfinal, before falling to Colorado Mines in the semifinals. The team played home games at Ram Stadium in Shepherdstown, West Virginia. The 2022 season was the third for the Rams as a member of the PSAC after joining the conference in 2019.”
I’ve never heard of the PSAC, which I live down in Georgia, so it probably isn’t all THAT surprising..
Still though, I love small Division 2 schools and Conferences getting any kind of positive exposure, and their exposure should only grow from these guys getting signed.
Hopefully, one or more of these guys can make their team, so they can continue keeping Shepherd College and the PSAC in the national news and relevant..
Their QB Tyson Bagent played in the Senior Bowl, 17000 career passing yards in college and his father is world champion arm wrestler.
Excellent info guys, I definitely appreciate it.
Apparently they had some real talent on their team, especially for four of their players to get guaranteed money deals.
I’m thinking it was likely a case of one of the prospects bringing in scouts, and then the scouts noticing the others, being like who is that RB, or where is that QB from??
I cannot tell you how many scouting stories I’ve heard of where a scout initially comes to see one player only to be impressed and wanting to know more about one of his/her teammates..
Shouldn’t that be, “The (only) time the Ravens drafted a quarterback who played at Delaware…”?
True that
