Today’s lone minor move in advance of the draft’s second night:
Chicago Bears
- Released: DL Gerri Green
Green, 27, was a Colts sixth-rounder in 2019 but his only appearance came with the Bears last season. That came after he bounced around several other teams’ practice squads, and saw him play only four defensive snaps (though it was enough to earn him a futures deal in January). The Mississippi State product will now look to catch on with another team in the post-draft wave of free agency. The Bears elected not to add a rookie to their D-line last night, leading many to expect they will do so on Day 2.
I just wish there was some way for the Bears to get back into the early second round without sacrificing the future picks but that’s the only way I see it getting done. I really wanted to see them get Schmitz. Getting a C would set the line up nicely. Plus they’re saying Jenkins will play next to Wright when the Bears have already told him he’ll be on the left side. I wonder which C they like after Schmitz because I think we’ll find out Sat.
Can’t believe the Bears passed on Schmitz twice. Nobody like the DL from Florida. I did like the CB pick and the Pickens move. The DL has some beef at least.
