Jim Harbaugh continues to garner plenty of attention in the build-up to the 2023 NFL head coaching cycle. Not long after a connection between he and the Broncos was reported, the two are set to be linked even further.

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reports that Denver has reached out to Harbaugh to confirm their intent to interview him for their vacancy. The role opened up after rookie bench boss Nathaniel Hackett was fired with just two games remaining in the season, one in which the Broncos have fallen well short of expectations. A number of experienced names have been floated as potential replacements, with the widespread expectation that a veteran coach will get the job.
Harbaugh has been included amongst those potential candidates, alongside the likes of Frank Reich and Dan Quinn. The current Michigan coach has ties with Broncos consultant John Elway as well as minority owner Condoleezza Rice dating back to their time spent at Stanford. Harbaugh was first mentioned in connection to the Broncos HC role just prior to Hackett’s dismissal, so their formal interest comes as no surprise.
Harbaugh has been included in speculation about the Colts’ opening, given his time spent with the team as a player and his relationship with owner Jim Irsay. The Broncos’ desire to at least interview the 59-year-old adds further to the interest shown in him this season, suggesting a return to the NFL could be in the cards. Harbaugh last coached the 49ers in 2014.
That tenure was immediately followed by his stint in Ann Arbor, which continues to this day. Harbaugh led the Wolverines to the College Football Playoff for the second straight season this year, a sign of the program’s recent success. That positive momentum was halted yesterday during Michigan’s upset loss to TCU, but it nevertheless came as little surprise when Harbaugh announced his commitment to remain with the school in 2023.
Still, he has mentioned his sense of ‘unfinished business’ with respect to winning a Super Bowl, and a relatively small buyout would be required to terminate his Michigan contract. Given the spending power of the Broncos’ new ownership group, finances will not be an issue if they are serious in seeing through Harbaugh’s potential return to an NFL sideline.
Ok but what about Jerome Harbaugh
Nobody is going to win in Denver with that Wilson contract albatross around their neck.
Agree. Why would he sign on to a train wreck when more attractive teams are interested? Better off at the college level enjoying all the perks and cash.
Interesting. I believe he promised the Michigan AD in February that he would never pursue another NFL job. He must have had his fingers crossed behind his back. Smh!
Nothing in the article suggests otherwise. It just mentions the broncos and colts want him. It does not note if he accepted interview proposals. The article even mentions his committment to mich for 2023. But great job reading.
Thanks for the kind words. I did read the article. How about you go back and review what he said about his supposed commitment for 2023? At that point, then we can talk. Until then, the grown-ups will carry the conversation.
Birdman is right, though. What is there to discuss? Until it says he’s interested, this is a nothingburger.
Broncos Interested In Interviewing Jim Harbaugh For HC Vacancy
Doesn’t say Harbaugh interested in Broncos HC vacancy.
Just because teams want to interview a guy doesn’t mean the guy wants to interview for the job.
This article is expressing denvers interest in interviewing Harbaugh.
This article isn’t expressing Harbaugh wanting to coach in denver or wanting to interview for the vacancy.
The combination of Russell Wilson’s personality and Jim Harbaugh’s personality could make them the most annoying team in years.
The only way the Broncos will be successful is if they hire someone who can get Russ to turn it around. So it’s going to have to be someone on the offensive side of the ball. Jim Harbough being a former QB himself and years and years of experience could also be a good positive.
Sean Payton would be another option with a higher price tag. But again former QB, great offensive minded coach, and plenty of experience.
If they want someone younger without the buyout cost then Shane Steichen looks like the next up and coming offensive minded coach. He helped Justin Herbert have his amazing rookie season then more recently helped Jalen Hurts develop into a more all round QB not just a ball carrier.
That would be my top 3 and then it’s about the price you want to pay and how they interview I guess.
After the way he mishandled his timeouts in last night’s game, I sm surprised any organization would be interested.
Big Game James!
It’s weird that you can help lie a country into war and then just go on to help pick the next head coach of the Denver Broncos.
Harbaugh runs pass plays 3 times at the goal line, not the best choice. It’s always all about him, he wants all the attention.
I’m the 49ers Super Bowl loss
1-6 in bowl games
Please don’t leave, Jim
We can beat you most years
STAY
He’ll win more at Indy than he will with Denver. Those new owners think for one spilt second that they’ll get Harbaugh they’re mistaken and stupid. That franchise is a train wreak
You are talking about a team being a Train wreck? And you say it’s the Broncos and not the Colts? You take Nelson and Taylor off the Colts and they are the Texans. The Colts other than a couple of years with Harbaugh was a irrelevant team. Yes you had a 20 year run with Manning and Luck to be relevant. But just like after Johnny Unitas Until Manning, they were irrelevant. Get use to them being that way again. Yes they could luck out and win that garbage division. But that’s like bragging about getting girl that was hot in HS, after she becomes fat and ugly.
steal Mike Tomlin. just say No to Quinn, Reich, Harbaugh, and Payton!
Not happening.
Angelsfan4life- Baltimore Colts were strong team in mid 70s for about 3 years with the Ruston rifle Bert Jones at QB, Lyell Mitchell, Roger Carr and strong defense. Only problem was Steelers were best team in football at that time and could not be beaten in playoffs.
As I said earlier, his statement about returning meant nothing. A new article posted on rumors saying he will be pursuing NFL jobs. I guess @Birdmansns needs to do more reading.
From what I remember the initial plan was for Harbaugh to be at Michigan for maybe 5 years… to bring the program back to respectability and move on… it never was intended to be long term… it took longer than anticipated… but from this perspective… Mission accomplished. Funny thing is 2 years ago large numbers of Michigan faithful wanted him gone…
This would be HYSTERICAL
