Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray was carted off the field during Monday night’s game against the Patriots. Murray went down with a non-contact injury during the third offensive play of the game.
Murray went to the ground without getting touched during a standard scramble. The quarterback talked with trainers before getting carted off the field. ESPN’s Lisa Salters reported that Murray was “sobbing” as he was taken into the locker room (via ESPN’s Stephania Bell on Twitter).
The 25-year-old was initially deemed as questionable to return before being listed as out for the game. While it doesn’t come as much of a surprise considering the replays, there’s fear that Murray suffered a “serious knee injury,” sources told NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport (Twitter link). We’ll surely get more clarity following an MRI.
The former first-overall pick has dealt with various leg issues over the past two years. After not missing a game through his first two seasons in the NFL, Murray missed three games in 2021 thanks to an ankle issue and two games earlier this year with a hamstring injury.
After earning two-straight Pro Bowl nods, Murray has struggled a bit during his fourth season in the NFL. His 66.3 completion percentage is his lowest since his rookie campaign, and his yards per attempt and QBR are both career-lows. In his 10 starts, he’s guided Arizona to a 3-7 record while collecting 2,359 yards, 14 touchdowns, and seven interceptions. He’s also added 415 yards and three scores on the ground.
Colt McCoy took over under center for Arizona on Monday night. Following a solid showing in three starts last year, McCoy was serviceable in his two starts this season, completing 50 of his 71 pass attempts for 456 yards, one touchdown, and one interception.
At least he got his money first.
Should have stuck with baseball
He’s probably already made more in the NFL than he would have his whole MLB career.
He was a first round draft pick with 5 tool skills.
You see the ten year contracts being given out now.
Not saying you’re wrong. Just saying it’s not possible to really know.
Then again, he doesn’t like to study or spend time watching film. That probably wouldn’t play as well in MLB as it has for him in the NFL because his freakish athleticism wouldn’t be as important in baseball.
Even if he was at the MLB level at this point which is debatable, he still wouldn’t be arb eligible. He absolutely made the best financial decision to play football. Include the sponsorship deals etc.
He has $80+ million that says otherwise
No, he definitely shouldn’t have. The way baseball salaries are structured, he would have spent a few years in the minors making peanuts, followed by near league-minimum for his first three years in the bigs, followed by three Arb years. He wouldn’t have made serious money until he was almost 30 years old.
You’re forgetting that if he was a 1st round pick there’d be a nice multi million signing bonus and from then it’s up to his ability how quickly he gets to the majors.
Bet his thumbs are in impeccable shape though.
More time to play COD
They had to bring an Oompa Loompa sized stretcher for his body and a Zion Williamson sized stretcher for his ego
I just want too see Cam on the Cards
Get Kurt Warner.
The Redbirds may soon be drafting another first round QB savior to carry on the legacies of Rosen, Leinart, Stouffer and Pisarkiewicz.
Daniel Jones should be available once the Giants cut him loose.
As far as Murray, indications are he has a torn ACL.
Doubt the giants will give up on jones . He been pretty decent this year with the new coach . I would get him some WRs before I cut him . It hard to judge him with hardly any talent around him
The Giants declined Jones’ fifth-year option back in the spring. Players who don’t have a fifth-year option are as good as gone. Has nothing to do with how Jones fares on the field.
However, his best shot at starting remains with the NYG. He could sign a short-term team and player-friendly contract and see what 2023 brings.
Look at how the White Male Sports Media continue to white-knight the Giants even after their long-time tormentors hung nearly half a hundred on NYG.
/Because NFC East uber alles.
So the 3 $200+M QB’s are failing? Russ, Watson, & now Murray (sub 500 before the injury)? Teams are desperate for any iota of a hope.
As is the highest paid of all…..Rodgers.
Good catch.
If this dude loses some mobility he is toast.
This is 2022, not 1995. Practically everyone comes back and comes back stronger, especially young guys
I think the average length of an NFL career in 1995 was just over 4 seasons. Is there data that shows the needle has moved significantly since then?
For ACL surgeries. Most players didn’t come back from that years ago but not now. The league is loaded with running backs, Db’s, quarterbacks all coming back just as good if not better.
We are talking about a guy who a) doesn’t really like football, b) just got $190 million in guaranteed money, and c) loves playing video games more than studying game film – thus it is foolish to assume he will rehab like a guy trying to earn his next contract.
Good to know that you know him so well. He’ll come back from this. Guaranteed
