NOVEMBER 3: Reid was sentenced to three years in prison on the felony DWI charge, Malik Jackson of Fox 4 tweets. Young’s family released a statement expressing “outrage” at Reid’s sentence.
“The victims of this crime are outraged the defendant was not sentenced to the maximum sentence allowed by law,” the statement reads. “No prison time will ever be enough to punish the defendant for the pain and suffering he caused this family and the ongoing difficulties that Ariel will continue to endure for the rest of her life.”
Reid admitted while under oath he was drinking at the Chiefs’ facility on the night of the crash, Wetzel reports. The team’s facility sits adjacent to Arrowhead Stadium. Neither the NFL’s investigation nor the Chiefs’ internal review has produced any public information to date, Wetzel adds.
OCTOBER 11: The case of former Chiefs outside linebackers coach Britt Reid stemming from his February 2021 auto accident appears to be nearing an end. Reid has pleaded guilty to felony driving while intoxicated, as detailed by Margaret Stafford of the Associated Press.
The plea deal came not long before his September 26 hearing was scheduled to take place. The maximum penalty he could have faced was seven years in prison, but as a result of the agreement, prosecutors will seek no more than four years. Reid could also serve a shorter term in prison, with the possibility of parole.
Reid, 37, crashed his truck into two parked vehicles days before Super Bowl LV. The accident caused six injuries, including serious brain trauma to a 5-year-old. He was not with the team for the game, and his contract expired roughly one week later. That ended his tenure with the Chiefs, which began in 2013 after his father Andy Reid was hired as head coach.
The younger Reid admitted at the crash scene, and confirmed in court, that he had been drinking on the night of the accident. He has previously served a five-month prison sentence for a road rage incident in 2007, and pleaded guilty to DUI and drug charges the following year.
“I really regret what I did,” Reid said in court. “I made a huge mistake. I apologize to the family. I didn’t mean to hurt anyone.”
The family of Ariel Young, the child most seriously injured in the crash, has reached an agreement with the Chiefs to cover her medical expenses for the rest of her life, notes Yahoo Sports’ Dan Wetzel. They will have the opportunity to speak at Reid’s sentencing hearing, where they will likely echo their opposition to the plea agreement.
The family’s attorney said, “The five victims of this crime are outraged the prosecuting attorney is not seeking maximum sentence allowable by law. The defendant is a prior offender whose actions caused a five-year-old girl to be in a coma and seriously injured three others.”
Reid is scheduled to be sentenced on October 28. Given his guilty plea, that date will likely mark the end of this episode.
Terrible if he doesn’t serve the entire 4 years at least
He’ll serve a few months and get out for good behavior as long as he checks in with a parole officer.
Yet another example of someone getting of easy because they were allowed a plea deal. Sad, just sad.
Plea deals save the government money and make sure some punishment is handed out. Anything can happen when a case goes to trial.
Kinda hard to not get a conviction on this. He was under the influence and he hit a car. I’m ok with him getting the full 4 years especially with his previous record but I read that he can be released in a few months. That SHOULD NOT happen
You would think it would hard not to get a conviction, but we see OJ was walking around for years and that should have been easy. Same with Casey Anthony. The prosecution in cases has to do everything right or cases can be lost on technicalities. Not saying it is right or wrong, but it is the safest bet to get at least some responsibility being taken by the person committing the crime.
I don’t believe that’s why they did it.
haha pretty funny to see someone arguing against a plea deal..
usually they’re used to hand out quick, hassle free sentences to poor uneducated ppl who roll with a public defender looking to score some quick cash
We agree on this one. I mean it’s right in the headline…..Britt Reid pleads guilty….and you still have people that thinks he’s innocent
The problem is offering them in almost every case. In this case the evidence is pretty damning. Sure it saves the government money and time, but I would think most people would think punishing DUI is worth spending money on. I would support getting my taxes raised a bit for that – it’s a better use of government funds then most funds are used for.
I’ve noticed this for a while now, cost is always way more of a concern than justice in court cases. And for some reason, people are okay with that.
Having the right dad keeps paying off for this POS…
Kid gloves from the law and free NFL coaching jobs.
Probably gets free oatmeal, too.
Highly paid NFL coaching jobs.
The Chiefs are lucky Reid is a better coach then parent. One son dead because of drugs the other just a menace. Britt Reid ruined some little girls future. The Chiefs are on the hook for her care. I guess only time will tell if he or his ex wr Tyreek the child beater is a worse parent.
Why should the Chiefs have to pay a dime? If I get hit by a drunk McDonalds employee do I get paid by McDonalds????
The drunk had just left a Chiefs event when he rammed into disabled cars on the shoulder at 80 mph.
Which is understandable if that’s the case. I clicked this article’s link to the original, I cannot find the info that he was at the Chief’s facility.
He left the facility and was right outside getting on the Highway. Amazing how quiet the NFL had been on this one.
He supposedly was drinking at their facility right before the accident. Maybe the Chiefs are trying to do a good thing too. I doubt that Reid rings on a time clock so he’s different than your McDonald’s worker
I can’t find anything that says he was drinking at the facilities, as of now only allegedly and a conspiracy. IF that’s the case, then the Chiefs should pay up. It’s not the case just because you think it is though, or read it on deadspin, there’s no facts to that story.

Maybe this will help you. Reid stated he just left the office.
But still nothing has been confirmed of that lol. It’s all speculation.
“Prosecutors didn’t state anything specific in the charging documents about where Reid got drunk”
“In the interim, the questions remain. Where was Britt Reid drinking?”
Two direct quotes from your article.
If you read this article it says right in it Reid admitted under oath to drinking at the chefs facility.
If you read this comment my post was 3 weeks ago and that was posted literally just yesterday. The dudes a scumbag, and deserves what he got. All I was saying is there’s a due process in this country, and most tend to forget that.
Fire this guy into the Sun.
KATO is supposed to drive the GREEN HORNET!
Andy Reid should look up the dateline on jerry remys son before its too late
I feel like we are the only people that care about ‘saving the government money’ by reducing prison sentences. Maybe if the punishments were stiffer, you wouldn’t have as much crime to begin with?
Historically, the policy of making punishments stiffer almost always leads to a police state where people disappear without explanation at 4am. I’m opposed to that.
What? Giving this guy 7 years as opposed to 3 will inevitably lead to people disappearing at 4am by vigilante police? That’s quite a leap.
