For the second time in less than two weeks, safety Ugo Amadi is on the move. The Eagles are sending their recent acquisition to the Titans (Twitter link via ESPN’s Adam Schefter).
NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero tweets that Philadelphia is including a seventh-round pick in 2024 along with Amadi, in exchange for a sixth-rounder of the same year. In terms of draft stock, that represents a stark difference to the cost the Eagles paid to acquire Amadi last week: former second-rounder J.J. Arcega-Whiteside. More than anything, of course, that deal was a reflection of the wideout’s underwhelming career to date.
Amadi, 25, was thought to be a release candidate hours before being dealt to Philadelphia. He made seven starts last season, logging a defensive snap share above 50% for the second straight season. The 2019 fourth-rounder totaled 125 tackles, 13 pass deflections and one interception across three campaigns in Seattle. He was seen as a depth addition for Philadelphia, whose situation at the safety position is rather murky. Instead, he will now look to make the Titans’ 53-man roster as an insurance policy on the backend while entering a contract year.
In related roster news, the Titans also announced that linebacker Monty Rice has been placed on the reserve/PUP list. That opens up the spot for Amadi to fill, but means that the Titans’ LB corps will be thinner for at least the first four weeks of the season. The 2021-third rounder started four of his 10 appearances last year, recording 36 tackles. His rookie campaign was cut short by an Achilles injury, which obviously won’t be fully recovered in time for September.
Still hard to believe anyone took JJ at all. He was absolutely worthless, except for the occasional kickoff block.
Looks like he will be cut. He might be able to save his job with a good showing in the last PreSeason game. Seattle has plenty of WRs.
Can any of them throw? You have to wonder why they didn’t upgrade the quarterback position unless they’re waiting for Garapollo to be released. Smith and Lock are barely backups in this league
It’s pretty obvious why. To win less games and have a good to great shot at a high QB draft pick next off-season.
There’s no guarantee on those quarterbacks. Would you really use the first pick of the draft for an Ohio State quarterback? Or an Alabama quarterback? I don’t believe either school has ever produced any good quarterback other than Namath. Jury out on Jones
Don’t forget about Ken Stabler.
Does Amadi smell bad or something? Fart in meetings maybe?
The dude is not good at football
Howie basically traded a guy he was going to cut, who would have cost him 900k against this year’s CAP, for a guy who would only cost 100k against the CAP if cut. Then he used the cheaper guy to upgrade a 7th round pick, to a 6th round pick. Just working the margins.
Sounds like a lot of work just to acquire a 6th rounder that you can allocate 800k towards…but who are we to question the genius of Howie?
That’s not a lot of work. That’s called doing your job as GM. Creating 800k in CAP space, and upgrading a pick, for a player you were going to cut anyway, helps his team. Small things add up.
I mean, it’s small in the grand scheme of things, but I respect the productivity gained. I doubt that’s how Roseman planned it, given that he’d have to predict the Titans’ interest at a worthwhile price, but it was pretty smart to jump on the opportunity when it occurred. It likely won’t be a huge gain for Philly, but the move is solid in execution.
I doubt the transaction moves the needle at all and it resembles the Mickey Mouse moves Gettleman was making at the end to save his job.
Maybe if Gettleman had strung together a few more of those kind of Mickie Mouse moves, the Giants wouldn’t have had to cut James Bradberry, in order to get under the Cap.
