Before today’s announcement of the suspension Deshaun Watson will be facing (pending any potential NFL appeal), there was another important development in his legal situation. The number of civil suits he faces continues to drop, and now sits at one.

The embattled Browns QB has reached settlement agreements with three of the four women who had filed outstanding claims against him, per ESPN’s Jake Trotter. At one point, Watson faced 24 suits relating to his alleged sexual misconduct dating back to his time with the Texans, but in June, 20 of those cases were settled.
“After lengthy and intense negotiations, I can confirm that, late last night, our team resolved three of the four remaining civil cases with Deshaun Watson,” plaintiffs attorney Tony Buzbee said in a statement (via Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio). “We will continue to discuss the remaining case with Watson’s legal team, as appropriate.” As was the case with the original 20 settlements, details of the agreements will remain confidential.
Of note is the fact that Ashley Solis – the first woman to file suit against Watson and go public with her accusations – is among the three women to reach settlement agreements, as reported (on Twitter) by Trotter’s colleague John Barr. The identity of the lone remaining accuser is unknown at this time, leaving it unclear whether or not she is the one who also sued the Texans for their alleged role in enabling Watson’s behavior.
That case, along with 29 potential others, was settled in July. As a result, the Texans are thought to be clear of any wrongdoing in association with Watson’s league (or, potentially, judicial) punishment. If the one outstanding case makes it to civil court without being settled, the trial process will not take place until after the 2022 season, per the terms of an agreement between Watson’s legal team and that of the plaintiffs.
How many draft picks are the Texans going to lose? Should be 6 like Watson.
Probably none. They’ll pay fines if anything. Doubt they lose draft picks.
Patriots were caught cheating. Docked 1 mill a 1st and 4th.
Watson got 6 games. Had it been a year or more they’d probably lose draft picks but I’d be shocked if they lose picks with such a light suspension.
I agree. Nothing happened to Dan S or Bob Kraft. Skins skate by as well. I think it’s ridiculous that organizations and front office are allowed to settle with people, just not the players. There’s no difference in my eyes.
What a pathetic putrid human being- absolutely disgusting. How shameful- gross and UNAMERICAN.
I look at it like this, a female judge made her ruling. There’s a difference between the media’s side of a story and what actually happened.
Exactly. Most of everyone on here have only heard Tony Buzbee’s side of the story. The Grand Juries and the Robinson heard both sides.
Except Robinson concluded he committed sexual assault…
They don’t care about facts. They just want to see someone they don’t like go to jail. Guarantee they didn’t the same about Big Ben or their favorite politician.
Who cares what a hater has to say, D. Watson keep balling!
People are mad and I love it
The browns never win and I love it
You’re living in the past man.
“unamerican” is an odd inclusion to this comment but okay.
The NFL is the official sponsor of Rape.
Who was accused of rape? He retired
Jim Brown, the legendary face of the Browns, the torch has now been passed.
Watson wasn’t. Roethlisberger was. You need to move on. Case is closed. Go back to your basement and play with your fantasy buddies
Says the man child spending all day responding on this forum with the constant nonsense defending a sexual deviant because he plays for your pathetic hometown team….maaahhh, the meatloaf!!!
This is the only topic that I comment on. I see some comment on every article and even MLB trade rumors using the same names as on here. I’m retired and it rained here yesterday. You should be at work polish boy
I guess you can get away with anything if you’re rich…
That’s the bottom line!
Actually his money didn’t have anything to do with getting away with it. The Grand Juries didn’t get paid off
No, but the lawyers paid worked their way around it. Same for the Texans (And Dan S, Bob K, and every other rich person), they paid off the same women. The team isn’t going to get hit with any penalty.
I would Grand Juries aren’t paid off
So you can afford roughly $2.4M? I’m guessing $100K per female. I can’t.
But don’t worry, Cleveland isn’t the only classless franchise in the league. There’s a reason they haven’t won since the 1950’s. Throw in the Jets, Fins, DC, AZ, Chicago, & Det come to mind. Enjoy another losing season.
Forgot the Bengals. The Browns won in 1964. They’re not going to have a losing season. Mayfield was the 26th rated quarterback last year and the Browns were hit harder than almost anyone with covid and injuries and they still finished only one game under 500. I’m predicting 10 wins this year. I’m almost always right but you already know that
Lots of bad teams like I mentioned; and yes the Browns will lose again. They always do.
20-15 in the last 2 years and 1-1 in the playoffs aren’t exactly losing. Now they have a top quarterback to go with the rest of the talent. It could be worse, you could be rooting for the Steelers. They’re gonna be bad
You’ll lose and everyone that comments here will openly laugh at you. You genuinely have some very good points, but, my god, it’s just a team; grow up. You have zero value in the team; but a zealot to the end I’ll give you that. I quit on DC a few years after Dan bought them. Not worth my time.
I’m a fan. I’m not going to apologize. You’d be a bigger fan of the Commanders if they were better or Snyder wasn’t a bad owner. I’ve lost interest in the Browns until Mayfield arrived and they started adding pieces. Quarterback was the only missing piece….and kicker. They solved both. If everyone would be so appalled at players on their team like they are Watson, there’d be no fans. Just in our division, you have fans wearing Ray Lewis and Ray Rice jerseys for Baltimore. Ben Roethlisberger jerseys for Pittsburgh and Joe Mixon and Jackson Carmen jerseys for the Bengals. All players that were accused of heinous acts
From wiki: Since officially taking over the Browns seven games into the 2012 season, and through the end of the 2020 regular season, Haslam has a 44-94-1 record as team owner (including going 0-16 in 2017)
Great ownership there. For a while, you could get excited about top 5 draft picks. Don’t worry, that’ll be back in 3 years!
Sure. I know their record. The Bengals have been a horrible team too record wise but they have a great future ahead of them if ownership keeps the good players. As for the top 5 draft picks, I highly doubt that the Browns spot that goes to the Texans will be under 20 for the next 2 years. Watson is well worth the picks. It’s not like they were drafting Stroud next year anyway. People keep bringing up the past. The past means nothing. I live in the now
money is the great equalizer
Happy Endings!
The NFL is a joke, like everything else money talks
Brownsbacker9…
Ben gets accused of rape: “he did it, he’s a rapist”
Watson with 30 civil suits against him: “there’s just no way he did it, he’s innocent, I witnessed all of his massages. That’s my QB…”
All I can hear reading these comments from you is Gluck Gluck Gluck. Too many weirdos and fanboys on this app
I never once said Roethlisberger did it. I don’t know. I really don’t care. But what I am saying is that the Steeler fans on here act like he’s a great guy when he’s been accused of a worse act than Watson. Watson deserved his suspension. I think he’s a perv. I just don’t get why everyone really cares about his punishment. Do they care about a person’s punishment that robs a store in another state? Do they care about the punishment of someone they don’t know? Whatever Watson gets or doesn’t get does not change their life. I could care less about what Kamara gets. Or if AB is signed. Or if Brady wants to deflate another football. Most of the people complaining about Watson are only doing it because it affects their football team somehow. Their stance would change if he were the quarterback for their team. That’s my issue with Roethlisberger. The Steeler fans did not want him suspended for the whole year. I guarantee you that
The process is finished. I’m one who thinks the punishment should have been a full season. But without evidence of criminal intent, it’s unlikely he would have gotten more games.
The issue I have is how this new contract have prevented Watson from more financial impact.
The first year million dollar salary was obviously a protection from fiscal loss. This disturbs me that he gets off without a hefty fine. Like 10 million.
It’s entirely possible that Watsons payoffs to the 23 will be near that amount.
I’m sure a NDA about no public admission was part of these agreements
The women get some justice, though only financially. Watson will only be scrutinized about future messages. He comes out “Scott Free from any
Initially he refused to settle for 100,000 per accuser so I doubt he paid anymore than that. As for his contract, the Browns have other players contract set up the exact same way. Why do you think they have almost 50 million dollars in cap space? The Browns head coach, GM and cap specialist are all Ivy League graduates. They’re very smart people
“Why do you think they have almost 50 million dollars in cap space? The Browns head coach, GM and cap specialist are all Ivy League graduates. They’re very smart people” And that would be why they’re already $16.6M over next years cap.
So many grandstanders here Jesus LMAO the guy was acquitted not once but TWICE in grand juries but you people can’t let it rest. Legally there is not sufficient evidence of any criminal wrongdoing- go cry somewhere else.
The NFL isn’t a court of law. They were simply looking at whether he violated the NFL’s Code of Conduct. He did so 66 times.
The judge decided this punishment based off of what others have received. In other words, you don’t let Kraft get nothing and all of a sudden get tough with Watson. There’s no doubt he was wrong but
you don’t change the the punishment midway
