In the weeks leading up to the 2022 NFL Draft, word was going around that Eagles wide receiver Jalen Reagor‘s days in Philadelphia were numbered. It stood to reason that it would be more financially favorable to seek a trade partner, rather than cut Reagor and incur dead cap charges of over $6MM.
There was some reported interest, according to Tim Kelly of 94WIP, but the Draft came and went, and no trade occurred. Now, that doesn’t mean that a trade couldn’t still happen, but if it were going to, it would’ve been most likely to occur during the Draft.
Zach Berman of The Athletic did provide an update on the situation with a quote from Eagles general manager Howie Roseman saying, “Jalen Reagor is a Philadelphia Eagle and he’s going to be here…He’s worked tremendously hard to get in shape and come into this off-season program, and now he has an opportunity. We don’t anticipate anything changing.”
The 23-year-old was a first-round pick in 2020. Reagor was highly touted as a vertical threat after a productive college career at TCU, but that hasn’t yet translated to his NFL tenure. In 28 games, Reagor has averaged a healthy 10.9 yards per reception, but only totaled 64 catches for 695 yards and three touchdowns. With that said, he has also contributed on special teams as a returner.
So, as of right now, it appears Reagor will be returning for another opportunity to contribute. He currently is the third wide receiver on the depth chart behind last year’s first-round pick, DeVonta Smith, and Quez Watkins. He won’t need to pass either of them on the depth chart, necessarily, but needs to really improve his contribution if he wants to remain in Philadelphia.
No mention of aj brown here? Thought I’d be relevant
That’s so cool that AJ Brown posts on here! You’re def relevant bro. Welcome to Philly!
would trade him WITH a late pick at this point
oh, and Reagor isn’t #3. he’s at best #5 behind Brown, Smith, Quez, and Pascale
So basically he doesn’t exist in the wr rotation…he’s a special teamer at best on that team.
Like JJAW who then bumped to a new position. Howie’s pride in the way again, doesn’t know how to cut his losses.
I’d take Ward over Reagor too
Make that fourth on the depth chart with the AJ Brown trade. Similar to Mims on the Jets, he’s going to get the chance to show that his off-season efforts justify the faith the team still has in him.
which would you rather have? Mims or Raegor? I know they have different skill sets. Just curious if you had to pick one, who you would go with
not even a question for me it would be Raegor. Raegor has some gadget play flexibility and mims had 11 games with 3 starts and all he could muster was 8 receptions and only caught 1/3 of his targets. Hopefully he has improved but that was horrendous.
“Skill sets” is a stretch for both of them. They each have WR listed next to their names on the roster that’s about it.
I’d say Mims. If he could improve his route-running, his breakaway potential is tremendous.
“He currently is the third wide receiver on the depth chart behind last year’s first-round pick, DeVonta Smith, and Quez Watkins”…. I guess that AJ Brown guy they traded for and gave $100M is 4th on the depth chart….
AJ Brown does not exist…
How about a classic change of scenery trade between the Eagles and Jets. Reagor for Mims? Who says no?
I think the Jets say no for money reasons. Reagor’s salary is a little harder to swallow for a guy who would also be behind Davis, Wilson, Moore, and even Berrios.
Even as a Special Team player he seems to make more negative plays than anything . Trade him for ANYTHING !!!
Ward has been a reasonably solid red zone receiver. Think about it, he only had 11 targets last season, and managed to get in the end zone three times. Meanwhile, Reagor had 57 targets and only managed two touchdowns.
I’d trade him for a bag of Takis.
Ravens may wanna look at him
Kinda hard to use stats for Reagor in this offense with Hurts as the qb. Same scenario as in Baltimore. A run first type qb with average arm attributes will hamper any receivers stats. Adding Brown there is just gonna take more “stats” away from Reagor and now Smith. Sorry but you gotta look at it from the outside looking in approach. Thats why Hollywood left Baltimore. Knew his “stats” were going to be at its peak due to injuries last year. Now that the rb room is healthy again it’ll be back to the lame duck stats not expected from a first round pick. That’s why I’m still saying the trade and signing of AJ Brown in Philly is pointless and a waste of resources. They’re better off using that money to plug up the defense more than on one wr that is in a room with a lot of mouths to feed and not enough food to feed em.
If you’d actually watched him you’d see he regularly makes bad plays that aren’t on the QB. He losses yards on Punt Returns and is near the bottom of Kickoff Returns. He dropped two consecutive TD passes against the Giants and badly muffed a punt in the playoffs. It’s not just that he doesn’t make good plays , it’s that he makes a lot of negative plays. I can’t believe the Eagles had a chance to trade him to the Ravens and didn’t pull the trigger. Even if they got nothing , it’s addition by subtraction.
I just read that the Ravens offered Safety Chuck Clark for Reagor during the draft… wtf didn’t Howie make that trade ?
