The Jets’ defense has undergone plenty of changes this offseason, but the unit could see a few other additions in the near future. One free agent the team is still keeping tabs on is linebacker Kwon Alexander.
According to Brian Costello of the New York Post, the Jets are still “interested” in the veteran. This isn’t the first time the two parties have been connected, meaning that New York eyeing Alexander even after the draft comes as little surprise.
The Jets hosted Alexander on a visit in mid-April, signalling the potential that they could add him to their linebacking corps. The 27-year-old was at his best with his initial team, the Buccaneers. It was in Tampa Bay in 2017 that he was named a Pro Bowler for the first and only time in his career.
That led to plenty of optimism when he joined the 49ers on a big-money deal. The LSU product wasn’t able to live up to the expectations that came with that deal, however, and he only suited up for 13 contests in San Francisco. Most recently, he was in New Orleans after the Saints traded for him. Registering eight starts in 12 games this past campaign, he totalled 50 tackles and 3.5 sacks.
That obviously wasn’t enough to earn him a deal in the initial waves of free agency, but it generated at least some interest from the Jets. If he were to end up in the Big Apple, he would once again play under Robert Saleh, and add a veteran presence to the team’s LB room. New York has C.J. Mosley on a lucrative contract; he would currently project as a starter alongside Quincy Williams – who is heading into a contract year. Other, younger, options remain slated for rotational roles after the team elected not to draft another option.
Don’t do it kwon, that’s a 5 win team.
i see 6 games they most likely win and 3 maybe 4 they could win if they live up to expectations and the rest are most likely losses.
Im not saying this is a superbowl team, i think at current time, they are around a .500 team because the division is tough and i think they only get one division win probably against miami at home.
It’ll all come down to QB play, and having the Jets as a 10 win team is a bit rough. Please tell me you don’t have the Browns in either of those first groups.
im not saying they will get to 10 wins just the possibilities for those games are in there to get there .. i see them as a 500 or 8 win team.
Yes i included the browns in there because:
Watson and potentially Mayfield distractions
you will have either a new QB to the system in week 2 that probably at their highest is backup qb or a QB that they dont want to be there and he doesnt want to be there.
even if they pick up the system neither one of those qb are good at passing and really have no receivers outside of cooper who will also be getting used to new system and prob reg double teamed. so the jets can stack the box more to prevent the run and you get back your lead
the jets defensive line should be greatly improved with nicks coming back and johnson up there as well.
in the end it comes down do the jets get wilson from first half of season or second half where he did do better and has actual weapons. This game is very winnable for them.
Alright man, I don’t want to shut down your enthusiasm, but you remind me a lot of myself in 2019, and we all know how that 2019 Browns season went. If there’s one thing I’ve learned as a fan of a perpetually losing franchise, whatever can go wrong, will. Best of luck though. I hope the Jets go 16-1.
even im not that rose colored glasses at 16-1 lol. Guaranteed 7 losses on their record based on their schedule. 6 games that are very winnable and 4 that are if things go the right way.
Its kinda like baseball every team “should” win 50 and lose 50 the 62 in between is what makes up the best from the worst.
This year i think we have more winnable if the 1st rounders and hall are even decent and wilson is the 2nd half wilson and not the 1st half .. lots of big ifs but like i said our ceiling right now is 500 maybe next year we can hope for playoffs but i dont want to even think that until we see if wilson and the d improve. We might end up with Darnold 2.0.
I really had high hopes for Darnold too but just couldnt put it together and i cant even blame the jets for that because he worse with the panthers that have better weapons around him.
If KWON doesn’t get an NFL job,
he can always rejoin,
ALEXANDER’S RAG TIME BAND !!
