Another first-round pick has signed their rookie contract. Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter (on Twitter), the Eagles have signed defensive tackle Jordan Davis to his rookie deal. It’s a four-year pact that includes $17MM in guaranteed money.

The Eagles traded up two selections in order to select the Georgia product with the No. 13 pick. Davis was a mainstay on the Bulldogs’ defense during his four seasons in college. Playing in a run-stopping role, the six-foot-six, 340 pounder totaled seven sacks and 11.5 tackles for loss. Those numbers, along with eye-popping athletic testing at the combine, leave the door open to his development as a three-down player.
At the moment, Davis will be joining a depth chart that’s led by veteran Fletcher Cox. The 31-year-old was cut and re-signed by the Eagles earlier this offseason, but his one-year pact means he may not be sticking around Philadelphia long term.
Davis wasn’t the only Eagles rookie to ink his rookie contract today. According to Doug Kyed of ProFootballFocus.com (on Twitter), the Eagles also signed Kansas linebacker Kyron Johnson (round 6, No. 181) and SMU tight end Grant Calcaterra (round 6, No. 198).
I’m intrigued by the possibility he could develop into more than a two down run stuffer with his athleticism. I like what his size can do for that defense. I love that he can learn from Fletcher Cox. But more than anything, I love that his Twitter bio says “Swedish fish connoisseur.”
I have to assume that “Swedish Fish connoisseur” means he only eats the normal sized red ones.
Him and Fletcher Cox will be solid up front together. Still think we need 1 or 2 more additions to the defence in order for me to be comfortable with us taking out our division. Either a CB or S or a veteran edge presence.
Davis and Dean were great additions to the defence, Jurgens will add to a solid and safe line and obviously AJ Brown will be huge. Hoping Jalen Hurts can prove some of the doubters wrong this season.
Fly eagles fly
If Davis was still on the board, we might have found out how much longer Pickett would have lasted.
Outstanding in Run defense but won’t give you much of a pass rush. Eagles reached to pick him but overall a sold pick for the eagles.
Literally the only person I’ve seen say this pick was a reach.
A lot of people said he was a reach. Trading up to draft a guy that high and he is a 2-down guy that will be a backup for at least his first season is definitely a reach.
And that’s not to say he won’t be a good run stuffer and develop into a more complete player. But with all of that draft capital they did not draft one plug and play starter. They traded up to grab him so Balt didn’t grab him, but if they did they’d have gotten Hamilton who is a bigger need for Philly and would’ve been a day 1 starter.
I personally wanted Hamilton so I would have preferred that, but I don’t think you can call a guy a reach when every mock I saw had him in the 12-18 range. That to me isn’t a reach. A reach is NE drafting Cole Strange in the first.
That’s where I was seeing Davis fall in the mocks I read. At least two of them had the player gone before pick 15.
