After three-plus seasons with the Raiders, Nathan Peterman has found a new team. The Bears signed the veteran quarterback to a one-year deal Wednesday.
Although the once-maligned quarterback is best known for making disastrous starts during his Bills tenure, which included a Week 1 start ahead of Josh Allen in 2018, Peterman has stabilized his career as a reserve. He caught on with the Raiders during Jon Gruden‘s first year, and after signing a 2019 reserve/futures contract, the Pitt product continued to work as one of Derek Carr‘s understudies.
Peterman primarily played behind both Carr and Marcus Mariota in Las Vegas. The 2017 fifth-round pick signed a one-year, $1MM pact to stay with the Raiders last year, and he finished the year on the Raiders’ practice squad. Since his Bills tenure wrapped midway through the 2018 season, Peterman has attempted eight regular-season passes. He still carries a career 3-12 career touchdown pass-to-interception ratio and a 34.0 passer rating.
The Bears previously carried one of the most experienced sets of second- and third-string quarterbacks in NFL history, rostering Andy Dalton and Nick Foles. Dalton has since signed with the Saints, and the Bears cut Foles shortly after the draft. The 10-year veteran remains a free agent. Trevor Siemian joins Peterman behind Justin Fields now; the team waived second-year QB Ryan Willis on Wednesday.
I don’t understand what Peterson is doing to keep finding an NFL job but man let’s hope Fields and Siemian stay healthy.
Dude does not belong on an NFL roster
The Peterman is back!!!
The Peterman is back!!!!
Peterman did beat out Glennon and Kizer on the Raiders depth chart so that must have impressed the Bears braintrust.
No Colin Kap but this linguini-armed doofus finds work every season.
LOL Kap isn’t gonna take a backup job. This was a really poor attempt to get some likes. Kaep will only sign under his own terms and it wouldn’t be as a backup in Chicago
If he won’t be a back up then he’s got a loooong wait. He’s played his last game as a starter.
I am so sick of hearing about Kap, they both suck, kap is just a distraction.
It’s incredible what can happen when a backup QB accepts a role as a backup QB and also doesn’t put out Netflix specials claiming the league he continues to try to play in is a modern day equivalent to slavery.
The Peterman is back!!!
Fields, Siemian, and Peterman. The Bears division is shaking in their boots.
Hahahaha, that is all!
Very possible he takes over for the bust Fields by game 9.
I’m guessing by your name that you’re a Michigan fan? Can’t argue with your post. I have a friend that is a big OSU fan and I love telling him the same thing. The most successful Buckeye quarterback was actually a WR. Terrell Pryor.
“Although the once-maligned quarterback is best known for making disastrous starts during his Bills tenure, which included a Week 1 start ahead of Josh Allen in 2018, Peterman has stabilized his career as a reserve.”
His career started going better after he stopped playing.
This is par for Georgie boys signing. He sucks and so do his signings. And for a guy who has said he knows nothing about football then makes his GM’s answer to him, he deserves all the bums he can get. No respect for Pole in agreeing to answering to Georgie. Update your resume Pole and Eberflus, you’ll need it when looking for another job in 3 years.
GM’s always answer to owners. That is ok though, I don’t think Pole has any respect for you either.
Cue all the “how does this guy have a job and Kap doesn’t” comments.
Both have sucked but one doesn’t come with the extra distractions and a back up QB is not work the extra distractions. If it was Russel Wilson, Lamar Jackson, Mahomes, or a difference maker a team would roll with the extra baggage. That’s why Watson is given a chance despite his accusations. Peterman wouldn’t be given a job had he come with those type of accusations.
But seriously, Peterman must have some dirt on somebody important to be given opportunities to stay rostered lol
how do you spell bum? N-a-t-h-a-n P-e-t-e-r-m-a-n
Goat lives on.
He must be reaaaaaallllly good in the film room or in meetings. Or he has incriminating photos of every single GM and Coach in the NFL.
He’s not going to make anyone’s team I don’t think. But, You need arms in camp, especially with how many Receivers and TE’s they’re auditioning. I would only hope that Eberflus and Getsy don’t make the same stupid mistake that Nagy made year after year and give Fields as much work as he can handle in Pre-season. He needs to play as much as possible.
