It’s interesting that Joe Schoen was apparently the assistant general manager for both the Giants and Bills. When did he find time to sleep? I’m also wondering why nobody seems interested in Reggie McKenzie as a GM. Gruden threw him under the bus but he had done some good work for the Raiders and deserves another chance.
Agreed about McKenzie.
It doesn’t say anywhere that Schoen is the assistant gm of the giants
Yes, it does. Second to last on the Bears list.
Reggie McKenzie didn’t do anything wrong in Oakland… other than take the job. Bad cloud over this Raiders team. They have no identity now and had none then. A $10 mil coach didn’t change that. And Mike Mayock should get back to writing mock drafts. Potential without purpose. He has no idea how to build a roster. Ive got a better shot than him.
No, no, Reggie McKenzie was a bad GM.
His first draft, I don’t believe anyone stuck longer than 3 years. 2013 you might give him a pass since everyone picked terribly that year but the only decent player it yielded was Latavius Murray in the sixth round.
2014 was one of 2 good years. Drafts Mack, Carr, Gabe Jackson, Justin Ellis, Shelby Harris(who never really developed until he left Oakland)
2015 Amari Cooper and Jon Felciano(again, never played until leaving(
2016 not a single player is still on the roster from that draft.
2017 takes conley(not on the roster) over Tre awhile, TJ Watt, Ryan Ramczyk. And then again, not a single player from that draft is still a Raider.
And his other good draft being his final season where he drafts Kolton Miller, Brandon Parker, Arden Key(only good after leaving), Maurice Hurst(gone) and Johnny Townsend(also gone).
His hits were very few and as evidenced by a lot of the guys not even being on NFL rosters, his misses were plenty.
Maybe he took the Giants job and kept interviewing, it’s a candidate’s market out there
George McCaskey, the incredibly clueless owner of the Bears, will as usual, find a way to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
He’s not the owner. He’s the chairman. His clueless 100 year old mother is the owner. And I’m guessing she tells him what to do
She has delegated the entire operation to him. And he is an owner.
I don’t see Dorsey’s name. Why?
The word on the street is that Dorsey has taken up the trombone and is saying “I’ll never smile again”.
Funny!
What about that genius Bob Quinn?
The Mighty Quinn is probably waiting for an offer from the Eskimoes of the CFL.
All teams with a GM vacancy need to interview Rick Spielman.
Spielman had 2 years remaining on his contract.
He’s just gonna sit back and collect his money.
Smiling all the way to the bank.
I believe the Bears will go Mensah or Brown. The organization has duly been paint as disfunctional and they will try to change that view by making more of a trendy pick than necessarily the right one. Hopefully Mensah or Brown get the job and can overcome the ownership issues.
I won’t speculate on who the Bears might hire but the last time they attempted to be hip and trendy they humiliated themselves with the Super Bowl Shuffle. Even the Bears legend Butkus had to shake his head in disgust when he saw that display.
The first qualification for being the Bears GM had better be the ability to trade DOWN in the draft and acquire some of the draft picks Pace whizzed away. Oh, and then be able to make those picks actually be NFL caliber players.
Even if the Bears find a GM who can do those things will management be willing to reward top performers with lucrative contract extensions when the time comes? In a way it’s comical that the front office always plays hardball with their top players be it Matt Forte or Allen Robinson but throw money at completely useless tools like Mike Glennon.
Its no coincidence that the Bears do that. They are not operated by open minded people. Thats why Lovie Smith was fired after winning 10 games. They don’t use a fair pay scale, its tilted based on how you look.
The Bears’ only picks in the top 100 are #39 and #71. They don’t have any picks to trade down with and it would be foolish to trade either of those two to acquire more picks.
The Bears should get at least a 4th rd compensatory pick for Robinson because let’s face it they aint paying and he aint coming back here. A good GM could trade back early in the 2nd rd and get a decent player in the 2nd and maybe a 4th back. Could do the same in the 3rd and get a 5th or a 6th. Right now on Sportrac the Bears have like 42 million in cap but only have 32 players signed. That means they need bodies. Not just bodies, but cheap bodies. Draft is the best place for that. Pace is an idiot who never got that. Which is a shame because he drafted better in the late rounds than the early ones.
Last 1st round pick that made a difference was Urlacher almost 25 years ago and before that was Covert and Gault.
Ever heard of Roquan Smith? Fact is though some of the Bears best players were drafted in the 3rd round or later. Mooney, Jackson, Montgomery, Borom, Hebert. Borom has a chance to be real good.
They will probably hire a Head Coach then find a GM. The Bears Bizarro Way.
That’s a lot of jobs.New GM’s like to make noise with big name news.Could be a very busy off season and draft day we can grade their work.
As a Long time Bears fan I’m looking at the GM’s who have drafted qbs and out of that list theres maybe 3 .
Now those 3 would be a good fit if the Bears were a normal team unfortunately the Bears are far from a normal team and because of the situation the Bears are in I feel the best thing the Bears could do for it’s fans is to sell the Team.
The Cubs were in a very similar situation
Can any Bears fans explain to me why Nagy didn’t play Foles this year? That would probably have given them 4 more wins and the playoffs.
Foles is not a +4 win QB
The bears should talk with Bill Belichick !
About getting Hoyer back as a QB mentor sure. Bill won’t ever be leaving the Patriots himself.
The likely new Giants GM is currently drawing up his plans at his Mara Lago coffee table.
My vote for gm is Eliot Wolf. He knows the nfc north from his years with the packers. He then went to the browns and their roster is looking like it’s got center pieces on both sides of the ball and he has last been with the patriots. They were bad last year had a quick retool and made the playoffs this year (granted one and done). I also say give him 5 years to clean up the roster and cap situation
What are the duties/responsibilities of/for:
VP of Football Operations
VP of Player Personnel
Assistant GM
Assistant Director of Player Personnel
Vice President of Football and Business Administration
Director of Player Personnel
Executive Director of Player Personnel
VP of Pro Personnel
Difficult to judge the candidates capabilities to run their own show without having an idea of their level of authority and responsibility in their current positions.
Looks like Poles might have his choice between the bears and Vikings, two rivals, depending on how his second interviews go…interesting.
The Vikings made a mistake in getting rid of their GM. Spielman supplied a steady flow of quality players.
Spielman did do a good job at finding players outside of qb. His one downfall was not being able to draft or find a qb capable of leading the team to a Super Bowl.
C’mon one of the Browns guys lol, we need those diversity draft picksss
The Steelers have interviewed Brandon Hunt. Who currently works cos the team.
What about Louis Riddick? Wasn’t he interviewed quite a lot a couple years ago?
Omar Khan was the person I thought would replace Colbert. With Colbert helping run the search, though, and the draft being the end of his tenure, I wouldn’t expect a new announcement at this point that would take focus away from that.
The Steelers are being thorough, and with Colbert remaining in place for a while longer, there’s no reason to rush.
Pretty sure Weidl got a second interview with the Steelers
