And we’ve got a run on receiver trades! According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter (on Twitter), the Titans are planning to trade wideout A.J. Brown to the Eagles. Tennessee will receive picks No. 18 and No. 101, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero (on Twitter). The Eagles will also ink the receiver to a hefty extension; NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports (on Twitter), that the Eagles will sign Brown to a four-year, $100MM extension with $57MM in guaranteed money.
2021 was the first time Brown failed to amass 1,000 receiving yards and 9 total touchdowns in a season. While the season certainly wasn’t up to Brown’s usual standards, it was still a solid overall campaign. Despite being limited to the fewest games of his career, Brown finished with 53 receptions for 869 yards and five touchdowns.
The Eagles were hunting for receiver help this offseason, even after using a 2021 first-round pick on DeVonta Smith. The team was reportedly eyeing some of the draft’s top receiving prospects. Instead, the front office decided to make a splash with an established target for Jalen Hurts.
Brown and the Titans had preliminary talks on an extension, but after a deal couldn’t be reached, the wideout made it clear that he wouldn’t be participating in offseason programs. Considering the deals being handed out to wide receivers, Brown’s camp was seeking a contract that would pay him north of $20MM per season. The Titans could still use a player of Brown’s caliber, but the player’s pending extension and growing frustration ultimately led to a trade.
With their new selection, the Titans have selected Arkansas WR Treylon Burks. The wideout burst onto the scene following a solid 2020 campaign, and he took it to another level in 2021, finishing with 66 receptions for 1,104 yards and 11 touchdowns.
What? Why???
It was explained in the article sir…..
Reading is hard.
Wow. Great for Philly.
Deebo trade when
Well I used to think the NBA draft was done without rhyme or reason….
Dang the Eagles are actually putting together a great offensive unit. Not we they just have to prove Hurts can actually throw the ball around the field and more importantly in the red zone.
If nothing else, this is a great chance for Hurts to show out, and if he doesn’t, Philly has two first rounders next year. But Eagles fans will still complain about Howie all the live long day.
this is a whole fact
Whole! LOL
This also leaves Tennessee with basically zero pass catchers. They’re obviously going to feed Derrick Henry even more then the last couple years.
Giving up a lot to get a guy you have to immediately open the checkbook is not good.
He’s really, really good though.
But they gave up 18 and 101 for him while Marquise Brown and 100 went to Arizona for pick 23. Is he that much better than Marquise? And you now have to ink him to a humongous contract that might make it that they can’t resign Smith and tie up so much money at WR.
He’s much better than Hollywood. And Smith has three more rookie deal years plus an option. Brown and Smith is a nifty 1-2.
Aj’s 5inches taller,40lbs heavier,and has averaged an extra 4yds per reception.
He’s the better fit opposite Smith, and ya still gotta keep in mind the connection with Hurts. This likely helps with his confidence and comfort level.
So you swap picks 100 and 101 for career differences of 634 yards, 3 TDs, 10 less catches, and you open the vault up? You have to budget a cap with balance, can’t put too much at one position, gotta get better value via draft picks then free agents/trades with hefty contracts, and gotta nail those picks. Howie wheeling and dealing as always, but given his track record of drafting he doesn’t even trust he could get the pick right there and goes with a proven commodity. The further down the draft you go in the early rounds the worse he is; he can nail a pick like Smith because any football guy would, but once you get down into the mid-late 1st through rounds 2-3 he bombs.
You would have to pay Marquise too. You’d have to with any proven player.
And yes,I would swap 100 & 101 for an extra 600yds and 3tds on less catches, plus the extra size.Marquise would’ve gave them a 6ft/5’9″ combo.Aj gives them 2 6ft+ guys.Aj gives them what they’ve been missing since Alshon fell off,a big body who can contest catches in the red and endzone.
They’re getting a receiver that Hurts is familiar with, that’s a good thing.Kinda funny that they’re getting the extension done already.
4 years 100 mill with 50+ mill guaranteed being reported.
Being reported by who? I could see 20 million a year but 25 is a reach
Ian Rapport during the draft.
Anddd he was right
Probably has a big 4th year salary that they can adjust later.
It’s also 4yrs-100 added onto the last year 9f his rookie deal,so it’s really a 5yr-105m contract.
From one trash QB to another
They pay Tannehill 120 million but won’t sign an actual elite player. This is why the Titans won’t win a title any time soon
Breaking News .. Derrick Henry wants out lol .. Boy WTF are the 49ers doing .. Sat on jimmy too long and now they’re stuck with deebo .. Jeez
I can think of worse things than being “stuck” with Deebo.
Wow, the Eagles started the night with 10 picks and now have 5 and still have needs for LB, Edge Rusher,CB and Safety….
And still have their day 2picks. You know, where you’re more likely to find starters.
Exactly, Howie the mad genius out thought the room again. Nice to grab Davis but could’ve not swing that deal, kept those picks and grabbed Hamilton instead (if Baltimore took Davis).
oh no, all of those 4th and 5th rounders! bet one would go bust and one’s a fringe player anyways.
They also traded a 1st and 3rd Rounder
Hopefully they can get a mid-rounder for Reagor, even a late rounder.
They may try to trade Cox for a draft pick.
The Eagles started the night with 10 picks and now have 5 and still have major holes of DE,S,CB and LB to fill.
They did draft 2 ends last year.A year of development for them, plus they’re getting Graham back.Linebacker really depends on what they plan to do with Reddick, plus the defense as a whole.Reddick-Edwards-White is a trio with some potential to it.Taylor,Bradley, and Stevens are 3 guys they’ve drafted that could provide depth. And they probably feel ok at safety with Harris,Epps, and Wallace. It’s also gonna be year 2 in the system for the returning players. They do need a 2nd corner, but they didn’t get Harris last year til late in the offseason, hopefully they can do that again.
Nelson…not Harris
Yeah, always drafting guys for that “year of development” despite the many holes over the years and the need to draft plug and play guys not guys on a redshirt season. Give up picks to trade up to grab a D-lineman that is a 2-down guy, and is also going to serve an apprenticeship, when you could’ve and should’ve grabbed an immediate starter such as Hamilton. Howie being Howie…
