The Ravens have traded a former first-round pick. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport (on Twitter), Baltimore has traded wideout Marquise Brown to the Cardinals, reuniting the receiver with his college QB. Cardinals GM Steve Keim announced that the team will also be picking up Brown’s fifth-year option (via Josh Alper of ProFootballTalk.com).
Per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero (on Twitter), the Ravens will trade Brown and pick No. 100 to Arizona for pick No. 23. It’ll be interesting to see which direction the Ravens go with their second selection of the night, and with plenty of talented wideouts still on the board, the team could instantly look to replace Brown in the lineup.
“Hollywood” was the 25th-overall pick in the 2019 draft. Following two up-and-down seasons to start his career, the receiver had a career year in 2021. Brown finished the campaign with a career-high 1,013 yards from scrimmage to go along with six touchdowns. His 92 receptions almost surpassed the totals from his first two seasons combined.
Considering their lack of reliable depth at the position, the Ravens certainly aren’t done at receiver. At the moment, the team’s depth chart is led by Rashod Bateman and Devin Duvernay.
The Cardinals could use some reinforcement at the position after losing Christian Kirk to the Jaguars. DeAndre Hopkins is still around to serve as Kyler Murray’s top targets, but Brown will provide another reliable target for the explosive offense.
Least he’ll have a better QB throwing to him finally.
He was one of the AZ quarterbacks top receivers in college, so there is a relationship there. I don’t really get Kyler Murray’s beef with the Cardinals. They have done nothing but try to taylor that offense to him since he got there. Even the head coach was picked because of Kyler Murray. It’s rare that one organization puts so much emphasis on a single player. He shouldn’t really blame them for anything. If he’s upset maybe he should go play baseball with the Oakland A’s because they made him a top 10 first round draft pick in MLB before Arizona even drafted him at all.
Imagine he’s finding out while he was watching the draft
If Hopkins is healthy Brown should put up good numbers. But man I would have waited to see of Traylon Burks was there at 23 before doing this trade.
Wonder if Landry winds up there with slot snaps open.
I don’t think they’d go in that direction, just because they re-signed A.J. Green. He’s not the slot guy that Landry would be, but that would a lot of money (especially considering a possible future deal for Brown pending a good year) to tie up in receivers, especially with a Murray extension looming.
Sorry, I meant Baltimore.
I gotcha.
More for Hollywood Brown than DeAndre Hopkins…wow, Bill O’Brien was a mess as GM
Guess the Ravens are clearing out cap space commitments for the Lamar Jackson re-signing.
Ugh don’t like this for the Cards. Either he continues to struggle with drops or he proves himself and they have to dish out a hefty contract
The Cardinals haven’t been accused of long term thinking, I do agree (hence the upvote), but there are two things I think to note here. One, this may prove good for Brown, who obviously had a good connection for Murray in college. Two, this could just as much be a move to signal commitment to Murray (who for some reason doesn’t think that turning over a previous rebuild to pick him first overall and hiring an old coaching familiar isn’t enough of a signal of that).the Cardinals get an athletic talent who can stretch the field, and hopefully play to the sensitivities of their disgruntled starting QB.
BAL moving to a all TE receiving corps.
I mean, they might as well trade for Darren Waller to line up outside full time. Why not?
I’m kidding. Partially.
