Staying in character, the Jets are prepared to make an offer involving the No. 10 overall pick for Deebo Samuel. In addition to the persistent wide receiver-chasing team, NFC squads are interested in the disgruntled 49er.
The Lions and Packers are believed to be on the radar for Samuel, Ian Rapoport of NFL.com notes (video link). Green Bay is on the verge of entering the draft with a glaring hole at the position, and although Detroit saw Amon-Ra St. Brown progress down the stretch last season, Samuel would step in as a clear-cut No. 1 weapon with the rebuilding team. The prospective price would hover around a mid-first-round pick, per Rapoport. The 49ers dealt DeForest Buckner for a mid-first-rounder in 2020, doing so after extension talks reached a price point too high for the team.

Of course, this all might be premature. The 49ers are not believed to be listening to Samuel proposals, and while John Lynch said these recent hiccups have surprised the team, the plan remains to find a way to salvage this partnership.
“I can’t ever imagine wanting to move on from Deebo,” Lynch said Monday. “He’s just too good of a player. You don’t let guys like that walk.”
Samuel trade rumors have only emerged in the past week, though the trade-and-extend sequences involving Davante Adams and Tyreek Hill have impacted the receiver market for several weeks. The 49ers have planned Samuel and Nick Bosa extensions, but the team’s initial offer — less than $19MM per year — did not go over well with the All-Pro wideout. Samuel submitted a trade request last week, with issues like his frequent backfield usage and not wanting to live in California any longer surfacing. The 49ers, however, have thus far closed off this route.
The 49ers trading their top receiver to the Packers, one of their top conference rivals, seems farfetched. An interconference deal to the Jets would add up, especially given ex-49ers coach Mike LaFleur running the Jets’ offense. The Lions (Nos. 2 and 32), Jets (Nos. 4 and 10) and Packers (Nos. 22 and 28) each have two first-round picks, providing additional ammo in the event the 49ers do decide to enter trade talks. The team still holds considerable leverage, with Samuel under contract through 2022 and the franchise tag in play for 2023, but may well be able to recoup better value ahead of the draft.
Love for Deebo straight up all day. A-Aron says let’s do it, Rodgers rate.
The 49ers would laugh and hang up the phone if thats all the Packers brothered to offer.
Packers don’t have the draft capital for a trade. Anything outside the top 12 picks in the draft probably won’t be considered.
They have two firsts and two seconds. I’m sure they have the draft capital if SF would even trade with them.
Those 4 WR’s: Deebo, DC, Tenn, & Metcalf picked a great time to look for new contracts! Enjoy the spoils gents.
It’s the first time they’re allowed to.
Of course I know that. But $25m is the new going rate! They’ll be $22m minimum. Good times to be a young WR.
Godwin got $20m w/ a torn MCL.
Godwin has also bee productive for the last 3 years and is seen as a consistent playmaker. Deebo has had 1 good year.
Adams(8 years) and Hill(6 years) have been doing this for a while and have earned that money. Deebo needs to keep plugging away and show he can keep being productive.
Not a Packers fan (actually a Vikings fan) but Deebo would be a beast on the Pack. He’s literally a way way better Ty Montgomery and we saw that ARodg can get a lot of use out of a two way threat. Obviously I’d prefer the Packers try and draft Adams replacement because there’s a higher likelihood of failure, but man Deebo with ARodg would be nuts.
Yea the little Rogers flick w deebos ability to get in open space would be epic
Hard to see SF sending him there.
I’m sure their preference wouldn’t be to send to a NFC team especially one that they continually face, but I’ve seen crazier things than that.
That, and if Deebo doesn’t want to live in CA, I can’t imagine WI would be high on his wish list.
It would be in front of Detroit or New Jersey though…
Wut?
NJ = NYC > GB
But NYC = either NYG or NYJ <<<<< GB
The math checks out.
He doesn’t want to be a 2-way threat. That’s the problem. The reason he’s more valuable than he would otherwise be is because of his 2-way threat, but he doesn’t want that. He wants to do less and get paid. He’s a great talent, but I don’t want that kind of me-first player on my team. I want somebody who wants to win, and will play wherever he can best help the team, in order to win.
Let me ask you if you working a job and your title said one thing but you were also very good at another thing and your bosses wanted to pay you based on that other thing (because it pays a lot less) you’d be ok with that? Deebo was drafted as a WR, I can’t blame him for wanting WR money especially when his receiving numbers deserve near the top WR money. I try to think what I would do in his situation and I know I wouldn’t want to take less money just because my boss can try to claim my versatility as a negative.
Who said anything about less money. He’s looking for 25M per, and based on his huge skillset of being a playmaker as a WR and runner, that makes sense. But he no longer wants to use that skillset. Therefore, he’s not worth 25M. He can’t have it both ways. He’s likely worth 25M when used like he was last year. If he wants to “only” be a WR, then IMO he’s not worth 25M.
Consider this: you’re a very good software developer, worth 100K per. You’re also a very good analyst, worth 100K per. One year, you do both and you do both really well, making yourself worth 150K per year. You then ask for 150K, but you no longer want to do analysis. You can’t have both.
I think he just doesn’t want to do the RB stuff right now, because of the amount he is getting paid and the higher risk of injury that comes along with it before he has signed his big contract. Once he gets his $25MIL per season, he’ll be ok with it again.
I don’t think so. Why would he say he doesn’t want to do it, then? That hurts his argument for asking for 25M.
I mean he still was top 5 WR in receiving yards last year with only 77 catches, even though that was his first year doing much. So I don’t think it will do too much to his market value by making the statement. I’d want to let my team know that I am not comfortable doing all that if it increases the likelihood of injury before I get my big payday.
Like I said I read it one way from the quote I saw. The portion in ALL CAPS makes me think he will be comfortable once he gets paid – “He simply wants to be elsewhere. There are some questions and frustration from his standpoint about his usage. He’s a top receiver; he also takes a lot of hits [and is] used like a running back, put all over the field and it’s just does not sound like he is COMFORTABLE AS OF RIGHT NOW with the way he is being used.”
The problem lies in the report where Deebo complained about how he was used and essentially he doesn’t want to be a swiss army knife, he wants to just he a WR. So that lessens his value. But he still raked in like 1400 recieving yards? But his track record isn’t consistent enough to fork over the most money a WR has ever gotten.
Packers picks are too low in the rounds for the Niners to consider that. GB isn’t really an option.
Would likely take both packers firsts to get him and then I’m not sure how you sign him long term with packers cap sitch.
Don’t see this happening for GB.
I know adams wanted to go to LV, and that’s kinda why that trade went down. But I don’t see gb turning around and giving up more than they got for him on another WR they’d have to extend at a crazy high salary. With or without cap space to do it.
I also find it odd I came across 2 articles about GB trying to pry Waller away from LV, and Foosball rumors has nothing on that, but here’s another rerun about Deebo.
Hopefully the idiots sit out the entire season, lose their full 2022 salaries and a accrued season which means this year doesn’t count at all. Which also means we can still keep him for two more years after this year lol keep playing games divas! Or idiots I should say. Ungrateful idiots!
Won’t happen. They can sit out and report for like 6 games and be eligible for free agency at seasons end. Think its 6 games.
I believe it used to be 6. Maybe 7 now with the 17 game schedule..?
Franchise Tag
You give me “wear sunglasses in every pic I’ve taken” and “fly the American flag from the back of my pickup truck” vibes.
This is a hilarious description. LOL
What, you want them to dance for you, too? Ungrateful for your money? I wouldn’t want them to sit out, because I like watching football.
If they’re idiots, what does that make the person complaining about professional athletes that hardly affect their life on a forum…
Pass…we tryna build from scratch here..we need defense, defense and more defense.Giving up draft picks plus, we got to pay this guy the type of money he wants…Nooooope!!!. When it’s all said in done, Holmes & Co. will right this ship in the direction it needs to go.
If I’m the niners id be trying to fleece the Jets.
They are willing to give up the number 10 pick, dam.
Make the deal 10th, 38th and 117th for Deebo and 134 in the draft.
Niners then take the best WR in the draft IMO Jameson Williams. 38, Roger McCreary or Jalen Pitre if he available for CB. 61, Jamaree Slayer for guard, 93 Myjai Sanders on the edge, and 105 Brain Asamoah.
Williams replaces Deebo, huge upgrade at CB which is needed, upgrade at guard which is needed, then some depth on the edge and at LB.
I c the 49ers finally coming to their senses on tryna trade Deebo…its over give it up.Move on.But I just think its something more to it than what it is.I could be wrong which is prolly 45 percent of the time. The other half of the percentage, I’m usually right.lol
Packers couldn’t afford Adams but they can Deebo?
They offered Adam’s more than he got from Raiders but he wanted to play there.
I haven’t seen details on the offer GB reportedly put on the table for Adams. Word is the total value topped what he ultimately signed for with LV. My guess is it was quite creative to fit under the cap, especially for this year. Otherwise more cuts/restructures would have been necessary in order to do it then (before the trade went down).
Which leads me to believe even more roster/financial gymnastics would have to happen now just to fit the same deal under for Deebo. They’ve re-signed Campbell and Douglas since then, re-upped restricted and ERFA’s and a couple free agents (Reed and Watkins off the top of my head).
To summarize, they “could” afford Adams, unlikely they “can” afford Deebo IMO.
