While the Packers were able to maintain most of their core during this offseason, they have a sizable hole at the wide receiver position. With the draft coming up at the end of the month, the team could add multiple rookies at the position, as noted by ESPN’s Rob Demovsky.

Green Bay has traditionally avoided taking wideouts early in the draft – the last time they used a first-round pick on one was in 2002 – but the team is in need of multiple additions this year. Having traded away Davante Adams and lost Marquez Valdes-Scantling in free agency, the Packers will be rebuilding the top of the depth chart in the near future. General manager Brian Gutekunst recently indicated a willingness to spend multiple picks on the position.
“I think it’s too early to tell, but I think my history and even with Ted [Thompson’s] history, I don’t think we’ve ever shied away from taking multiple players at one position in a draft” he said. “So certainly if the right players are there, we wouldn’t shy away from that.”
Green Bay currently hold picks No. 22 and 28 in the first round. That will, in all likelihood, leave them out of contention for top options such as Drake London, Garrett Wilson, Chris Olave and Jameson Williams. Prospects closer to their range include Treylon Burks and Jahan Dotson, as well as a number of second-round candidates who will be available when the team picks 53rd and 59th overall.
While established players like Julio Jones and Jarvis Landry are still available as free agents, it wouldn’t come as a surprise if Green Bay were to draft at least one impact wideout to help offset this year’s losses. While doing so would be somewhat out of character, the rarer scenario of selecting two also cannot be ruled out.
Think Burks would fit well in MLF’s offense. Pickens fits what the Packers FO has coveted for years. Wouldn’t be surprising if Gute moved up in the draft to take one of the higher ranked WR’s, as well. He’s shown multiple times he’s willing to move up in the draft.
But never moved up for a WR to help Rodgers
And then they draft two OL in the first round, we’ve been burned before expecting this front office to draft for need rather than value
I’d rather take two OL in the first rather than another QB.
Gutey needs a project player!!
Don’t think the Pack need to panic and go double WR in 1st just cuz. They have 5 top 100 picks. Maybe go one in first round and another 2nd/3rd. Trade a 5th/6th for Reagor and that WR room looks much better.
Plus they drafted amari Rodgers last year and have Cobb and Lazard coming back.
1 in each of the first and second rounds is probably about as ideal as we can hope for. With wr contracts skyrocketing recently I think its even more important to add quality and quantity via the draft.
The sun is also eyeing rising in the east and gravity is eyeing pulling down.
I believe the top receivers will be flying off the board and that Gutey will move up to grab the one he wants between 15 and 22. I think it is Burks on a trade up. Edge or OL with second first rounder. Safety (Cine) and another WR in round 2
Burks is not worth trading up for. He’s there at 22 fine but I would not give up picks to move up to get him. Now if London or Olave would slip to mid or late teens yeah move up for them.
Pack needs to add at least 3 WR just to fill out the room, but not necessarily all in the first.
So they’re going to have to sign a WR and draft 2 or 3 — 1 or 2 high, 1 or 2 mid to late.
Probably end up drafting another qb
I think it would be awesome if we got Burke at 22 and Pickens in the second round. Use 28 on a IDL
Pickens won’t be there in 2nd most mocks have him late 1st or early 2nd.
This is how the packers draft will go in the first 2 rounds covering 4 picks, my prediction, DT then WR in the 1st WR then OT in the 2nd round. WR is very deep in this draft where they can get a good one mid 2nd
The last time there was a deep WR draft, Gutey didn’t take a single one. I highly doubt he goes for a WR anywhere before round 3 now that he signed Watkins.
