The Eagles have made trades to move their first-round pick ahead of the past two drafts; they might not be done changing their Round 1 slot this year. They are trying to trade up from No. 15 overall, James Palmer of NFL.com notes (video link).
Philadelphia is aiming to move into the top 10, per Palmer, who adds the team’s pass rush may well be the focus of such a trade. More specifically, the Eagles are interested in Kayvon Thibodeaux, a defensive end once viewed as the top overall prospect. His value has since become one of this draft’s top subplots.

Given the volatility of Thibodeaux’s stock, the Eagles will almost certainly need to wait until the draft begins to orchestrate a trade. Thibodeaux has been connected to a top-five destination and has also been mentioned as a player who could fall out of the top 10. The talented edge’s landing spot may be somewhere in between, giving the Eagles a potential target range.
After entering April with three first-round picks in the teens of this year’s draft, the Eagles parted with one of those picks and moved into the Saints’ No. 15 slot. Philly holds the Nos. 15 and 18 picks this year and has two more first-rounders next year. The Eagles have been linked to wide receivers throughout the pre-draft process, despite having selected one in each of the past two first rounds, and cornerback could loom as a position of interest as well. But the team finished 31st in sacks last season.
The Eagles re-signed 2017 first-round pick Derek Barnett and added Haason Reddick in free agency. They also extended Josh Sweat months ago. Brandon Graham, however, is coming off an Achilles tear and entering his age-34 season. Thibodeaux would further beef up this stable and give the team an interesting depth chart featuring usable edges beyond its two-deep.
Texans. Trade # 3.
Better call Detroit at #2. KT might not make it past Holmes and Co.
I’d be curious to know the overall track record of the Eagles moving up in the draft. In my admittedly sketchy memory it seems like they too often either overpay or move up to grab the wrong guy… or both.
Last year was Devonta Smith which looks pretty good so far. Most others are mostly ancient history.
Trading up for Goedert turned out OK too.
Cox was a successful small trade up too. Wentz helped get us to the Super Bowl. Maybe the Dillard trade up, again a small one, was the least successful since he never became a full time starter.
Yep. Trade #15 and #18, and the second 2023 pick for #2 … KT.
Stupid stupid trade for Philly
Fly Eagles Fly
Thibodeaux is going to be a stud. We need to stop with these character assessments of 20 year olds. Especially considering the people that are making them.
Especially considering the character concerns are that he’s cocky and has interests outside of football? Who cares?
Who the fork wouldn’t be cocky if they were at the top of their ultra-competitive profession?
The same guys on here who would definitely play out their rookie deals without even attempting to negotiate a raise.
So true.
– Johnny Manzel
Johnny Manziel’s character concerns were based on a lot more than rubbing a couple people the wrong way in interviews.
Haha. Johnny was on another level. He was a drunk, gambled, was doing blow, and selling autographs while still in school. Still got drafted in the first round. I don’t particularly have a problem with any of those, but they aren’t great hobbies for a professional athlete.
They can swap their 18 for Seattles 9 and 1 of their 2nds for one of next years first.
You think the Seahawks would move the #9 pick and a second rounder to move down 9 spots and gain a first rounder next year? Come on man.
It would be more like #18 and a second this year to the Seahawks for #9 overall. Or #15 and a third for #9 overall
No I would like it to happen but had to laugh when I typed it. I would like to see another1st next year in case we need more capital to move up for the one we want. I just hope they don’t try to show how smart they are and make stupid picks. GB would probably be the most likely partner.
Carolina at 6 seems about right for Thibodeaux if it falls the way most mocks are going.
I fear them trading too much to get up real high, or trading up but not enough. I want Thibs, but does even having the 3rd pick get you him?
Presumably third gets you either Thibodeaux or your choice of corner, but at this point you’d figure they wait until the draft to actually pull the trigger on a trade.
The cleanest deal is
New york Jets trades #4 #35 # 38
Philly trades # 15# 18 #51
With possible swap of players
You dont understand how pick value works, do you? There is 0% chance, and I mean 0%, that the Jets would trade the 4 for the 15 and 18, let alone the 4 and two very early seconds. Lay off the meth, man.
