Stefon Diggs is staying put. On Wednesday morning, the Bills wide receiver agreed to a brand new four-year, $96MM deal that could be worth more through incentives (Twitter link via NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport).

Diggs was previously on the five-year, $72MM deal he signed with the Vikings in 2018. That deal gave him an average annual value of $14.4MM per season. Since then, however, the market has advanced quite a bit and Diggs has stepped his game up. Since arriving in Buffalo in 2020, Diggs has notched 230 receptions for 2,760 yards and 18 touchdowns.
Since Diggs still has two years to go on his old contract, this new deal will keep him in Western New York through 2027. While he’s slotted 21st among all NFL players in AAV right now, the new money average vaults him much higher, in the same space as Davante Adams and Tyreek Hill. From GM Brandon Beane‘s perspective, it’s a worthwhile investment.
“He’s all in on winning and, sure, everybody wants to be paid but he wants to be on a winning team,” Beane said. “I think he’s been the best version of himself. So I don’t see that being an issue.”
Diggs, 28, has notched four straight 1,000-yard seasons, including 2020 when he finished with 127 grabs for 1,535 yards and eight touchdowns. Last year, he kept up the good work with 103 catches for 1,225 yards and ten TDs.
As an added bonus for the Bills, the new deal will lower Diggs’ 2022 cap number by over $6MM, as Field Yates of ESPN.com tweets.
I believe OJ Howard … will be a huge difference maker for the Bills this year. Top 5 TE possibility. I don’t think he was given a fair shot with Brady and Gronk. I think with Diggs , it will add another level to this receiving core.
What about the 3 seasons he played prior to Brady n Gronks arrival? Knox still gonna get fed first of the TEs, and that’s after Diggs, and possibly Gabriel. At absolute best, Howard 3rd in the overall pecking order, but that’s still behind another TE in Knox
Yeah Knox will get his. But he is a red zone target only. He does very little between the 20’s. I would be willing to bet Howard out performs Knox this year in catches and yards. He wasn’t terrible those 3 years but he had the turnover machine Winston throwing to him. Allen is a serious upgrade. Not to mention he split time with Brate also.
And he’ll be splitting time with Knox now. While we’re at it, David Njoku will be a top 3 TE
N-Joke-on -u if you think that. He is grossly overrated. Not worth too 5 money. He will be lucky to be top 15
Exactly. That’s why your comment was so ridiculous too.
I am just saying that sometimes there are late bloomers. The offense is as perfect if a situation as there could be for Howard to peak. Maybe he will continue to crash and burn but I don’t think so. I think they work some plays in for him to take off. Top 5 would be ceiling for sure. I do think he will finish better than Njoku will
I don’t. Njoku is going to be the top TE target and Watson is his quarterback. That’s 2 positive things happening in Njoku’s favor. Howard is going somewhere where he again will fight for targets and he’s has a quarterback that doesn’t use his TE like Brady has. Brady is probably the top quarterback for the TE
Winston led the league in yards in 2019 and yet Howard could only muster 459
Time will tell.
Winston also hardly utilized his tight ends. They basically only were relevant in the redzone, which is where Cam Brate made his living. Whether that was because of the tight ends being bad, scheme/playcalling, or just Winston who knows.
Howard will help. He sure hasn’t been able to transition from Alabama to the pros. But, remember Knox wasn’t really that much in college and now look at him.
Knox is overrated. I mean he’s decent but he was a red zone target. Useless between the 20’s
And dropped many balls too. Didn’t create any yardage for the Bills at all.
Good
But I thought Diggs was a malcontent, Diva and a locker room cancer who was going to try to force his way out of Buffalo? Lol
I don’t remember seeing that anywhere.
It was the Narrative when the Bills first traded for him and started again when Tyreek Hill got overpaid by the Dolphins.
I gotcha. I was confused because Diggs has been nothing but awesome on and off the field since he came to Buffalo.
Nor do I.
As a Pats fan, I can honestly say this team is going to be fun to watch for the next few years.
As a diehard Vikings fan, I’m very happy for him
Well deserved pay day. The guy is tough to cover and always gets his numbers.
And a great teammate
