After deciding to move forward with rookie quarterback Justin Fields as their starter behind center, the Bears have agreed to release Nick Foles, according to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network.
At 33-years-old, Foles will be searching for his sixth NFL team. He was drafted by the Eagles in the 3rd round of the 2012 NFL Draft, starting the last six games of his rookie season when then-starter Michael Vick was injured with a concussion. After an offseason competition with Vick and newly-drafted Matt Barkley, Foles entered his sophomore season as the backup, but soon took over, starting the last 10 games of the season and getting selected to the Pro Bowl after throwing 27 touchdowns versus only 2 interceptions. The following season saw Foles break his collarbone after only eight games.
Foles was traded after that season to the Rams and spent a season in there in St. Louis and the next year with the Chiefs, where he signed after briefly considering retirement. When the Chiefs declined the second-year option on his contract, he returned to Philadelphia to back up second-year quarterback Carson Wentz. Wentz was having an MVP-caliber season before tearing his ACL in a Week 14 game against the Rams. Foles stepped in and led the Eagles to a Super Bowl XXVI victory, being named MVP of the game in the process. Wentz returned to the starting job three weeks into the next season with Foles appearing again late in the year and in the playoffs, but ultimately getting defeated by the Saints.
Foles signed after that as a free agent with the Jaguars. An injury-stricken year in Jacksonville led them to trade him to Chicago. Foles replaced a struggling Mitchell Trubisky as starter during his first year before suffering a rough hip injury that took him out of action. Foles was slotted in as the third-string quarterback for most of the 2021 season behind Fields and back up Andy Dalton. Foles did appear for one start in their absences, though, showing his usual heroics with a late game-winning touchdown to Jimmy Graham to win by one point.
Without Foles the Bears will roster Fields, Trevor Siemian, and Ryan Willis. The Bears had been seeking a trade partner for Foles, but, in a brilliant show of class, the team’s new regime wanted to allow Foles the opportunity to find his next home on his own.
Fields the “rookie” quarterback? Come on MLBTR, you’re better than this
One of the dumbest things I’ve ever seen are the pack breakers on Tiktok or IG when they pull a other “one of one” Justin Fields card or auto or game worn like they won the Powerball. Fields may have succeeded sitting behind a decent QB on a better team, but hes setup like Geno Smith and the Jets.
Cards are so mass produced again since the explosion of interest from covid. It’s going to bubble pop again. There’s like 85 different sets of football cards, each with 50 inserts and numerous numbered cards.
Yeah you have a 1/1 Fields…..guess what…there’s like 500 other 1/1 Fields rookies and 5,000,000 Fields’s rookies overall produced. The market is super saturated due to the massive demand.
At this point, I’d like to see the Bears sign a couple of guys like Landry and Duane Brown or JC Tretter, just to give Fields some professional help. I feel bad for the guy.
tbh I don’t think Fields has much upside to begin with
but that offense, or lack there of, will completely hinder his career
Yea he’s setup for failure
Goku… We can argue personnel all day long but thinking that Luke Getsy is going to run Matt Nagy’s offense is a mistake.
I wasn’t arguing with anyone
“Discuss” might’ve been a better word. But regardless, it’s way too early to fold on Fields.
1/1 auto-relic is a nice get even if the dude ain’t a superstar. prolly one of the best players in the set knowing some of the checklists nowadays.
Cost of the packs vs actually getting a card worth the cost is low. The worst outcomes I’ve seen are these Justin Fields Redemption autos and it’s taking years to even get a redemption card and by the time you do this dude could be out of the league or they replace that card with a comparable valued card, but if it’s worth nothing by the time they replace it…
oh heck if it’s worth, but i dunno if most stuff you’re gonna pull is lately.
a handful of people became millionaires off of Beanie Babies ..
pretty much everyone else spent a crap ton of money on worthless stuffed animals
At least those were tangible things you could hold in your hand and you could use them year after year until and would last for a lifetime or more.
You lot are paying $70+ just for the ability to play a game (that is horrifically broken mind you and doesn’t have half the things in it that it had from 20+ years ago) for the honor to pay THOUSANDS on worthless cards that only last for the game cycle life of said game until next season rolls out.
Do you all not see how stupid this is?
Now imagine you are the guy watching other people open packs of cards.
I sold a card on EBay that’s been collecting dust for a few decades and now that’s all that shows up on my feed for fyp that and comedy bits
I dont understand why Nagy succumbed to the pressure to play Fields when Foles probably would’ve saved his job.
It didn’t appear Nagy had any interest in saving his job and he probably knew Reid would accept him back in Kansas City where the outlook is much better.

The only team with a worse draft than the Bears is the Vikings. Good job Norse.
The Patriots beg to differ, but who am I to doubt Bill Belichick?
You couldn’t recognize talent if it hit you in the face
What are you arguing, Biff? Which of those teams had a good draft?
Yeah, I’m not sure I know what he’s arguing, but I clearly said I don’t have the qualifications to doubt Bill Belichick (though as a Jet fan, I do have the anger). Still, the Pats picked a couple players two rounds earlier than they were expected to go. The one possible explanation for the Strange pick is that they see the value in holding the fifth year option on him. The others are headscratchers.
They prob released him based on his haircut. I would have too
Hope Nick gets one more backup job. It always been what he does best.
“In a brilliant show of class” they released him to find a deal on his own. This backhanded dig at the Browns and Niners is being brought to you by “Suck-Up” the new way to endear yourself to the home team. New “Suck-up”, it’s better than having to report with that brown stuff on your nose.
It’s not his fault that the Browns traded for an “accused” rapist before figuring out what to do with the $18 million a year “child” they already had on the roster.
“In a brilliant show of class”
When talking about the Browns, you don’t need that “cl”.
So what if you traded Mayfield before you got Watson and Watson picked another team? Then the Browns actually would have worsened the position instead of upgrading it.
Why get Watson at all if you already have Baker?
Commanders sign him, Wentz gets injured, Foles wins Super Bowl lmao
This year’s Bears quarterback room is arguably worse than last year’s.
Eagles, third time through.
Super bowl 26 huh? What longevity.
I’m guessing the Panthers take a shot at him. At the end of the day all they care about is, he’s not Baker Mayfield lol.
Apparently Carolina was trying to land Mayfield, but weren’t willing to take on his whole contract.
If you’re a team with a shaky roster and suspects at QB, you could do a lot worse than Foles. Best case, he elevates your team and makes them look respectable. Worst case, you look competitive while losing and selecting high in next year’s draft.
After watching bears football my entire life , I will say this , Justin is far from proven.
Given our laughably terrible run of qbs.
Poles did a good job working with what he had. He wanted to trade back and did at the end and turned 6 picks into 11 and only gave up a 6th rounder which he had an extra one next year I believe anyway from the Mack deal. Pace would of traded his next 2 #1’s for some TE or one of the QB’s nobody obviously liked this year. When picking at the end, OL is likely your path to the most chance of success. Still, Rather than constantly hearing about how the Bears made made great picks at the end of the draft, I’d like to hear more about how they hit on their high picks for a change. All in all, Poles needed cheap bodies for this year and he got a bunch of them, Will any factor in past this year? Tune in later. Everything this year was set up towards next year anyway when Poles and co. will have unlimited cap space, Lots of compensatory picks and then we can see where he goes. What do you tell a guy who was handed lemons and made lemonade? Good Job. Pace really screwed him.
Thinking Foles, who was a basketball star in High School, signs with Philadelphia Sixers as starting Center and leads the Sixers to the NBA Championship!
There is no reason why the Bears didn’t draft a QB in round 7 or immediately sign a UDFA like the Eagles did with Carson Strong or EJ Perry when they knew they were cutting Foles. Fields needs to be challenged and not just handed the job when your not the staff that drafted him. This smells of Trubisky all over again were ownership makes you play the hand that was dealt you.
Who was going to challenge him again? Carson Strong? EJ Perry? Poles and Flus have a get out of jail free card with Fields. They didn’t draft him. They can build up the rest of the roster then go get their guy. BTW, Pace dealt his own hand with Trubisky, not ownership.
