While it remains to be seen whether Davante Adams will be back in Green Bay, at least one of Aaron Rodgers‘ favorite targets will be sticking around. Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports (via Twitter) that wideout Randall Cobb took a sizable salary cut to stay with the Packers.

Specifically, Cobb sacrificed $5.5MM to stay in Green Bay. The veteran wideout was set to earn $8.5MM in total salary in 2022, and that number will now drop to $3MM.
Cobb returned to the Packers in 2021 and settled into a secondary role on offense. He ended up finishing the campaign with a career-low 376 yards from scrimmage, but his five touchdowns were the most he’s had since 2015.
Besides one-year stints with the Cowboys and Texans, Cobb had otherwise spent his entire career in Green Bay. He earned a Pro Bowl nod in 2014, and he’s sixth on the team’s all-time list in receptions (498).
Of course he did. The team mortgaged the franchise on cry baby player. There will be cuts in pay for anyone stupid enough to play there for the next few years!
It was take less money to stay with Rodgers or take less money to play somewhere else. He was never going to see that big dollar amount in ’22, regardless of the Rodgers contract or cap situation.
I agree with Cobbs contract in conjunction to his numbers. He’s a decending player. BUT due to Rodgers record setting cap hit EVERY player on the team will be predicated on his contract. You can say that about others but this one is the largest in league history so its bound to be a topic of conversation.
I think your dead on about the repercussions these massive QB contracts are going to have on other player positions…which is why the passer centric model needs to be modified. It just isn’t sustainable unless owners are willing to launch the salary cap ceiling into the stratosphere.
I mean, the cap is going to go way up starting next year.
We’re not allowed to mention the cap going up, cuz it’s going up for all the other teams too. Or something.
Too bad they don’t have a cheap QB. Then they could afford to sign Christian Kirk, Evan Engram, Oluokun…
And Von Miller, traded for Mack, Ngakuoe (sp?), and lured Calvin Johnson out of retirement!
Tell me you have no idea what you’re talking about without telling me you don’t know what you’re talking about.
Right. Rodgers currently has the 7th highest cap hit.
Or it’s because keeping him at the price the Texans gave him would be absolutely insane, but he wants to stay in Green Bay.
“Favorite target” having 28 catches in 12 games
Good thing that’s not what it says.
Read the third sentence, sweetie. It’s not exact but you know my point.
“one of Aaron Rodgers’ favorite targets.” He was fifth in targets and receptions despite only playing 12 games, and he’s caught just under a tenth of Aaron Rodgers’ career touchdowns. Of course he’s one of Rodgers’ favorite targets.
Way to double down on being wrong there 189. Gonna go for 3?
And wasn’t Cobb the guy Rodgers complained about the team letting go and basically demanded they bring back for him? I’d say Cobb counts as “one” of Rodgers favorite targets if the latter was willing to go to the mat with the team to get him back.
Well at least with the Packers he can get into the playoffs, even thou they and Rodgers will flame out in the first round.
They’ve won playoff games two of the last three years.
boooo, COME ON MAN! WHERE ARE THE CUTS
They cut the punter.
This is not fair to the league!
