Davante Adams‘ stint with the Packers has come to a sudden end. The Packers are trading the Pro Bowl wideout to the Raiders, reports ESPN’s Adam Schefter (via Twitter). The Packers will receive the Raiders’ first- and second-round picks in this year’s draft, Ian Rapoport of NFL.com tweets.
The Raiders are also inking Adams to a record-breaking contract. The wideout will sign a five-year, $141.25MM deal with Las Vegas, with his $28.25MM average annual salary setting a new record for the position (per Rapoport).
There were whispers that Adams could be on the move, but the return of Aaron Rodgers had many assuming that the star wide receiver would be back in Green Bay next season. Of course, there was still the matter of a contract; the Packers ended up franchising Adams when they couldn’t agree on an extension prior to the tender deadline, but the wideout later made it clear that he wouldn’t play the 2022 season on the franchise tag (one-year, $20.5MM). Adams has been pushing for a megadeal to top DeAndre Hopkins‘ $27MM/year contract, and per ESPN’s Rob Demovsky (on Twitter), the Packers were willing to meet his asking price. However, Adams ultimately wanted to play elsewhere, leading to the trade.
Whenever a potential Adams trade was brought up, the Raiders were consistently mentioned as a top suitor. This wasn’t only due to the Raiders’ need for a top-end wide receiver; it was also because of the friendship between Adams and quarterback Derek Carr, who were teammates at Fresno State. Carr said last summer that he would “welcome” a reunion with his good friend, and he acknowledged that he’d be “recruiting hard” by the time the 2022 offseason came around. Ultimately, Carr got his wish, and he’ll now be adding one of the NFL’s most dynamic receivers.
A few eyebrows were raised when it was recently reported that Adams had bought a home in the Las Vegas area, and Rapoport tweets that the receiver will actually be neighbors with his new QB. Rapoport adds that the Raiders and Packers had been working on a deal for a few days, although NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero tweets that the trade was dead as recently as yesterday.
Adams had a standout career with the Packers aftre being selected in the second round of the 2014 draft. The receiver earned a pair of first-team All-Pro nods and made five-straight Pro Bowls during his time in Green Bay. After putting up some incredible numbers in recent seasons, Adams somehow took it to another level in 2021. The wideout finished the season with a career-high 1,553 receiving yards on 123 receptions. He also hauled in 11 touchdowns.
Josh McDaniels and co. were reportedly seeking a top-end receiver to pair with receiver Hunter Renfrow and tight end Darren Waller. DeSean Jackson provided a bit of a spark after joining the organization, but there was no guarantee he would stick around (plus he profiles as a lower-end WR). The team also lost a key future piece in Henry Ruggs.
While Green Bay settled their issues with their franchise QB, they now have some major question marks elsewhere on offense. The team’s receivers depth chart is currently led by Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb, and the Bears signed away Equanimeous St. Brown earlier today. It will be interesting to see if the Packers are able to attract one of the few remaining FA wideouts, and Schefter confirms (on Twitter) that the team is indeed pursuing veteran receivers. And for those wondering, Rapoport tweets that Rodgers has indeed signed his new contract. In fact, Rodgers was aware that Adams was done with the Packers when he inked his new deal, so this trade won’t come as any surprise to the QB (per Rapoport).
wtf
Absolute STEAL by the packers. Tae was the best WR in the league because he has the best QB in the league throwing to him. For the pack to get a first and second for an aging WR that just got massively overpaid ….is a steal.
Unfortunately I’m not sure how the QB is gonna take this, but I’m guessing not well, unless he was told ahead of time. However, the packers couldn’t afford that if they wanted to. Obviously, WR now becomes a major need in the draft.
I don’t think I’ve heard anyone else call this a steal for the Pack. Congrats
You think a 29 year old WR is worth 28.5 million a year that will pay him that amount when he’s 33/34?
Generally I agree with your viewpoint, but I question the impact of losing the familiarity the two had. It’ll be difficult to replace, and at this point of his career and new contract, it’ll be interesting.
I agree with your thoughts, but ARod has had success with plenty of other WRs before Tae. Jordy, Cobb, Jennings, Driver
The constant has been ARod…..those WRs when they go elsewhere….nada.
I’m not worried about losing him.
LOL, well let’s see here.
Nelson: 33 and went to David Carr, got hurt and retired.
Cobb: 29 and only ever had 1 good year in his career even w/ Rodgers, so not sure why you’d even mention him unless you’re trying to paint a narrative.
Jennings: 30 and had a couple seasons consistent with his last 2 w/ Rodgers before he went to MN.
Driver: HUH?
Me thinks Adams also helped Rodgers . Big hole to fill. Adams 29 Rodgers is 38. Who is aged?
Rodgers has won mvps and a title without Tae. The other can’t say that.
You are so high.Top 5 WR in the league for 2 what-ifs? Don’t forget that the Raiders have a horrible draft legacy.
How’d that Jordy Nelson signing work out for ya Raiders? Huh?
Are you comparing Jordy Nelson to Adams? That’s awesome!
They were both elite WRs, there wasn’t as enormous a difference as it may appear. I think Adams is better now when joining Vegas than Nelson was when he joined Oakland, I would agree.
Rodgers and Adams have contributed heavily to each others’ success in the last few years. If Rodgers had another receiver close to being a legitimate number 1 (or even a legitimate number 2), this transition would be easier for Green Bay. However, given the roster of solid number 3s that the Packers seem to have there, I think that Adams will end up with an easier switch than Rodgers will. Then again, Adams is also moving to be coached by Josh McDaniels, so that should be considered…
Jordy Nelson was a solid WR but not anywhere near the level of Adams. You just lost any credibility by even comparing the two and calling Nelson elite.
Nelson was never an elite receiver and I lost credibility by comparing the two, despite their playing on the same team, quarterbacked by the same player, and both being each one of the top receivers in the league for a few years before ending up in the same place?
Jordy Nelson posted 1200+ yard seasons for three straight years (2013-2016) with 35 touchdowns in that span. Adams posted back to back 1200+ yard seasons in 2020 and 2021, but barely missed 1000 yards in 2019 in his best three year stretch. He posted 34 touchdowns, one fewer than Nelson, in that span. His 2018 was excellent, however, and was his first 1000+ yard season, with 13 touchdowns. Guess what year was Nelson’s first year out of Green Bay?
I can get your opinion that Adams is/was better than Nelson overall. But saying that the two are laughable to compare makes your argument look much less credible than mine.
Your forgetting Jordy was over the hill when he got to Oak. Devante is in his prime. Your logic is terribly flawed and you can be so ignorant to not know that.
No, I mentioned that. Read my first comment, second sentence. I’ll quote it for you.
“I think Adams is better now when joining Vegas than Nelson was when he joined Oakland, I would agree.”
Don’t call someone else ignorant when you cannot be bothered to read. There is no excuse for that.
Davante will eclipse Jordy Nelson’s career numbers at some point this season at age 29. Yes Jordy had a few “elite” seasons but he was an above average WR career wise. Not to mention your failure to site the fact that Jordy had 482 yards the season before he came to the Raiders and almost doubled it with them the following year. But guys like you love to say something to agitate and then just pick your favorite parts of the story to use as “evidence” to your garbage take. Your attempt to troll the Raiders by comparing Jordy to Davante is just sloppy regardless of how much you want to sit here and tell yourself it isn’t.
There was no attempt to troll the Raiders. This is a good move, again like I said, and the only point of the comment was to say that the gap between Adams and Nelson was not as extreme as you are for some reason committed to pointing out. Nelson was far more than “an above average receiver” for his career. I think this move is great for Vegas, and that Adams may very well eclipse Nelson, but your comment was incorrect. If you want to believe that, fine.
It did annoy me because you chose to come at me with an attitude because of your perception that I was bashing your favorite team and were hypersensitive about that issue, which I certainly was not. I gave you facts to support that conclusion, and I even said to both you and the other commentor that I thought Nelson was inferior to Adams when the Raiders acquired him. If your attitude was directed at my comment towards McDaniels, well, the guy has a reputation and for good reason. Until he proves himself free of that, it has to be considered. That’s less of an indictment of McDaniels’ ability and more of an indictment of his management choices.
The fact of the matter is that I merely pointed out that Adams has yet to consistently record a stretch of play that matched Nelson’s stretch of great play (though he likely will do so, he hasn’t yet), and you got very offended. Don’t blame me for your attitude. I’ll admit that I have little patience for people who choose not to read a full comment and jump to a conclusion that is clearly not a part of what was said. If you or anyone doesn’t want to read, that’s on you. That’s all I have to say about this conversation.
Jordy was 33, so it probably went just about how anyone would expect it to; he got hurt playing on a bad offense, with a bad QB, said “F this” and retired.
They’ll draft a first round WR & possibly pick up one later in the draft. Or sign a lesser FA.
I guess you didn’t read the full article. But yeah, I agree with you. I also had the same thoughts about how Rodgers would feel about it, until this article mentioned that he knew already. I’m thinking the Packers must have assured him they’re going to draft a WR or two early.
Well Rodgers must be happy he signed that extension…
“In fact, Rodgers was aware that Adams was done with the Packers when he inked his new deal”. Did you read the article?
That part of the article wasn’t posted yet when OP posted. Articles usually post in segments when there is breaking news.
Yeah it wasn’t there before I commented. Very interesting that he was aware of it.
You can read it and still think Rogers is not happy. Can your brain understand that?
I can give you 200 million reasons why…
Wow Raiders looking good… Green Bay will be Ok too…
Yesssssssss
Wow
In the immortal words of Ron Simmons: “DAMN!!!!”
WHUT
Holy f***ing sh*t!!!
Wow
Where are the idiots saying the raiders have no chance lol
The Raiders still have no chance
Here’s one of them. Just made playoffs with a depleted roster and just got jones and davante adams. Goodluck with that horrible take
A chance to make the playoffs yes. Super Bowl is a longer shot though. Only time will tell.
The Broncos no longer have Lock as QB and if healthy are almost guaranteed to be better than the Raiders. The Chiefs are the Chiefs, and the Chargers have upgraded their team more than anyone.
What makes the Broncos almost guaranteed to be better than the Raiders? That’s a pretty bold statement, just wondering where that logic is coming from
The fact that they have more talent
The raiders have an above average QB. So yeah they do have a chance
Pretty much every team that made the playoffs last year has a chance to repeat. That does not mean they are real Super Bowl contenders. Not a Bills fan but they are the team that looks real scary in the AFC.
Look at the QBS around the league. Im a big fan of Carr but he isn’t above avg. He is avg. He is also the worst qb in the division.
He’s above average. Russell Wilson is average especially the last 2/3 years. He also had dk metcalf and Tyler lockett. Broncos have the 8th pick for a reason
Wilson is better than Carr and it isnt really that close. In 2020 Wilson was a strong MVP candidate and Sorry but Lockett is much more a product of Wilson’s success than the other way around. Also Wilson has had to deal with the worst line in the league for much of his career. QBs currently better than Carr: Mahomes, Allen, Herbert, Wilson, Burrow, Jackson, Stafford, Prescott, Brady, Rodgers, Watson and I certainly could make an argument for guys such as Matt Ryan, Jalen Hurts, and Kirk Cousins. That puts Carr 11-15 so avg.
I also forgot Murray so legitimately Derek Carr maybe the 16th best QB in the league and at best is 12th that the definition of avg
Look at the stats. You are woefully wrong sir. #s are facts. And facts don’t lie.
Look at his #s with a depleted WR corps. Carr is above average. That is a fact.
How are you related to him? Mother, father, sibling?
As a Packer fan, I’m not sad. He’s a hell of a WR, but he’s slow. A great route runner and good rapport with Rodgers, but slow.
That has to be the dumbest comment ever.
Over the last two seasons, he has 238 catches for 2,927 yards and 29 TDs, good for All-Pro both seasons. But yeah, sure. He’s ‘slow’.
Not that I agree with the guy but you can still be good if your slow
Yeah, I am not disagreeing with him, just saying that it doesn’t matter because he’s amazing.
I don’t care how slow he is because every game it’s amazing how many times he’s wide open. Especially when the defenses are double teaming him or at the very least scheming to stop him.
His route running is a thing of beauty and allows him the generate plenty of YAC. Ask Will Fuller how much speed helps him succeed in the league.
Hence why I said a hell of a receiver, but not one to take the top off like other top receivers. He got run down by LB with regularity. He’s just not worth QB money.
BS
Cris Carter was slow as well. Somehow that amazing route running and great hands made him a HOFer. Being fast did absolutely nothing for Troy Williamson and Darrius Heyward-Bey.
Jerry Rice reportedly ran a 4.71 40-yd dash. That was slow for a WR even in those days.
Judge: That is a lucid, intelligent and well thought out argument.
Wrigleyhawkeye: Thank you you hon-
Judge: Overruled!
Copium is what this comment is called
I don’t care what his 40 time is, dude is good. I’m ecstatic to have him in Las Vegas. Let’s goooooo!
lol this is what you call loser denial
Fallout from Rodgers’ massive contract. No way could they afford both of them.
From what I’ve heard..and I’ll admit it’s not a ton..Adams would only agree to a contract I it was 100% on his terms. GB explained that because of cap constraints they could not do that (extremely front loaded) but were willing to work with him on a more than adequate deal. He just flat out refused to budge an inch.
We can argue all day this is Rodgers’ fault, but Adams is the 1 who refused to compromise.
Why should Adams compromise? He’s been the most productive WR at least the last two years. Why should he take less? Because his QB broke the bank?
Compromise in the structure of the deal, not actual dollars. Whether it be the amount of guaranteed money, more signing bonus money or higher salary in certain years when team cap space permitted.
He doesn’t have to “take less”. He also doesn’t have to be the greediest SOB on the face of the planet on an ego trip to be the “highest paid WR in the league”. Wait a month and another WR will be paid more. It kills me that these guys are so ego driven to be “highest paid”, and then it only lasts until the next player at the position signs a deal. Then he can whine again. Good riddance
That’s great logic.
“Sure boss, I’ll take less cuz in a couple days/weeks/months some other dude gonna sign for more anyway.”
As a bears fan YYYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS SO LONG YOU SON OF A MOTHER
Packers are 7-0 without Adams under Lafleur. They’ll still own the Bears without Adams.
Wonder how Aaron Rodgers feels now?
$200 million dollars richer
It’s his fault they had to trade him he didn’t want to leave any room to make his team better it’s just all about him
Sounds like he knew Adams was gone when he signed his deal.
It’s not about how he feels, but it is about the fact he better never complain about the talent around him again. He is a big reason for it and he can’t recruit guys to play for a dime like Brady and some others have been able to in the past.
You’re right Steve, but at the same time, the Packers really haven’t done much to improve at that position since 2017 or 2018, when they got rid of Nelson and Adams first took hold of the number one spot.
Rodgers should realize that taking less helps him overall (despite all of that “I signed an extension for more money to lower my immediate cap hit” baloney that players are so fond of), I 100% agree. However, I also recognize that the Packers have not given him a reason to trust them to use that money wisely or that they’ll even commit to him (or to going the extra mile that other teams will to win a championship) except out of sheer desperation. Both things are true. Hence this soap opera that we have.
Ultimately I’d say that that isn’t the best reasoning on Rodgers’ end, but also that the Packers created this dynamic by refusing to do anything over the top when it became apparent that they weren’t good enough overall to win a Super Bowl.
A reasonably high first and second round draft pick can yield a lot of WR talent, especially based on the last few drafts. $28 million to spend on defense or offensive line will go a long way to making the Packers a better team.
What???? Wow!
This division is loaded especially with Wilson. Don’t see why the raiders would give up capital for a year of adams. Rodgers is probably livid.
They signed him to a 5 year extension it isnt just for one year
Got it
They’re signing him to a record extension
“$2825MM average annual” ?
Bruh… that’s not even a number
That’s a hell of an annual average
four teams from the afc west will make the playoffs
3/4 in the NFC West again probably too.
Gonna be crazy!
I can see OBJ signing with the Packers.
He’s a me-first puke coming off a second ACL and he’ll still want $10M+ per year. No thanks.
He looked great in the short time he was in LA. And Rodgers should be able to pull him in, OBJ knows AR is the far superior player.
Wait we survived losing Sterling Sharpe and also the guy that went to Denver too. If I remember right we also won SB too .We will be just fine. Bring Landry in and use a first round draft choice on a receiver too.
OBJ is injured.
Before the second knee injury, yeah. He’s also a major headache and cancer in the locker room. I’ll take a HARD pass on OBJ
Moot point – Packers are trading for Golladay.
This will finally make Rodgers scan the field instead of looking for Adams on every pass play.
I’d say that worked out pretty well for both of them.
How many Superbowls did they win together? Didn’t work out as well as you want people to think.
Yes, that’s what you need to win a Super Bowl-a great WR and QB. That’s all, that’s it, it’s that easy. Marino to Clayton, Fouts to Winslow, Brady to Moss…
Falco to Clifford Franklin…
They were both handsomely paid. I’d say that worked out for both of them.
I mean it worked for a ton of yards and 29 TD just the last 2 seasons. I’m not sure all other pass catchers (WR & TE) combined had as many yards or TD, but sure, let’s celebrate Rodgers not being able to find a reliable, nevermind open, receiver!
HighAltitude –
Great point. Can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen AR completely ignore wide open WR just because he’s locked on Adams every single time. This will finally force an end to that garbage
AFC West is stacked! Could be any teams division this year.
Daphuk???
Love the Raiders, loath the Packers. This is nice.
dougdeb
what felony did Adam’s commit to be traded to those thugs?
That ain’t the Raiders of today. The minute someone slips they are gonna. Educate yourself you might seem more intelligent in a conversation.
Julio Jones to GB book it
Landry
Julio is washed
Forgot about Landry…. Yea he definitely works
Julio is washed, but Landry isn’t? Yeah ok.
Absolutely. Julio is 4 years older and was out 11? Games last year.
Landry a better route runner.
Faster currently.
Trade for N’keal Harry?
Let the collapse begin!
EQ St Brown signed with the Bears, he didn’t re-sign with Packers, you reported it earlier today
Ok, NM,
post has been updated now….
EQ is one of the worst WR I’ve ever seen. The guy instantly made the Bears worse. Good luck with that clown
All Rodgers had to do was tell his agent and the Packers that instead of taking 50 mill a year. Cut that in half give me 25 and take the other 25 and sign Adams long term.
Except Rodgers has never been about anybody but himself. So that scenario didn’t and would never happen.
Crycket –
Amen, brother!
Well their offense looks good but their defense is a GIANT ?! Even adding Chandler Jones that defense is nothing great. Gonna be some shootouts though that’s for sure. At the end of the day though Carr at best in that division is QB3/4. Here’s an idea, trade Carr for Watson and then you can really compete lol.
Here’s another idea- let’s not, and let’s not even say we did. I don’t want that piece of garbage Watson on my favorite team.
Carr is a very good QB. Saying he’s at best the 3rd or 4th best QB in a loaded QB division, um… ok, so?
You may be correct that Carr is maybe the 3rd or 4th best QB in the division. But name a Super Bowl team that had the Best QB? Just have to have a good QB. The MVP QB rarely wins the big game.
Almost every team that has won the super has had a legitimate argument for the best QB. Except for Eli’s few, The Ravens two, last Rams, and a few others
Hahaha, Rodgers is gonna LOVE this. WOW!
why? hasn’t gutten guy leaned a lesson?
Russell Wilson just got traded for the worst team in the best division to the new worst team in the best division…..
He thought it was hard with Kyler, Stafford and Jimmy G just wait until he plays Mahomes, Herbert and Carr.
Carr sounds like the easy game and he’s now got Adams Waller Renfrow Jacobs and Drake.
Huh?
Drake sucks
No he doesn’t even a little bit. When healthy and properly utilized he is probably the second best #2 rb in the league
The Broncos were only the worst team in the division because of their QB play. They had Lock. They now have Wilson. They are significantly better than the Raiders now

Is it groundhog day?
Aaron Rodgers was aware of Adams’ unhappiness during his own contract negotiations and knew the receiver would never play again for the Packers, NFL Network reported. (Per Milwaukee paper)
I think the Packers are hoping that Pickett is still on the board at the 16th pick.
Future back up to jordan love?
Jordan Love will be a future backup to some other QB on some other team, soon enough
Did Rodgers sign off on this? Lmao. Who is he going to throw to? Jarvis Landry is available.
I am fired up!!! Let’s go Raiders! Welcome to Las Vegas, DA!
Seems like a lot of $$$ for a 29 year old. Hope for the league he ages well
might be wise to have done this for GB. Helps their cap and keeps them from making the mistake of potentially having Adams call their bluff.
It sounds like Adams made up his mind a while ago he just wanted out. The tag and trade was probably the outcome no matter what. And it’s not like GB didn’t make a solid effort to change his mind.
Now Rogers will have no one to throw to in the playoffs… If they make it.
Like the Packers won’t make the playoffs
Their Division isn’t exactly strong. They get to play Detroit and Chicago twice! They will make the playoffs.
I’m going out on a limb and say the Packers sign Smith-Schuster and Beasley
Hopefully. Honestly, as a packer fan, I absolutely loved watching Davante play, and I’m surprised that he left Rodgers, but I really feel as if the Packers have failed in the playoffs too many times now. Adams was our backbone. The guy we could always trust. Until we couldn’t. I certainly hope we get a couple quality receivers, but I don’t think a Super Bowl season is in the cards here.
Smith schuster and Landry would be a good signing to pair together too
Been calling this for a few months and was definitely told quite a few times it wasn’t happening. When Rodgers re-signed some even said it was a forgone conclusion that Adams would stay in GB. I said despite him getting tendered he’d still be too expensive with ARod’s money. I’m not one to brag but this inclination sure does feel good. Welcome to the Nation brother, let’s go get that ship!
I was pretty confident he’d stick around, and GB did make a strong offer, with it being reported it was better overall than the Raiders.
What I was not aware of was that he apparently made the decision to move on a while ago
The Raiders moving to Vegas made them a dream destination due to their $0 state tax situation. If Adams had gone to a NY or California team he’d have made 10-15% less, thus he just saved himself about $3 million a year.
Something most fans don’t understand is that in every state you play in you have to pay taxes to that state. Having being based in Vegas is a bonus in that regard but depending if they play 8 or 9 games on the road and your $3 million figure let’s just cut that in half.
Could probably sign Landry AND smith-schuster for the amount it would have cost for Adams.
Wouldn’t be a bad trade off
But think of all the anti-vax conspiracies Rodgers and Beasley could swap together on the sidelines.
Good riddance, Adams
