The Falcons’ meeting with quarterback Deshaun Watson has come to an end, and the team has reportedly submitted a trade offer to the Texans, reports Aaron Wilson of ProFootballNetwork.com.
While Watson’s previous meetings with the Browns, Saints, and Panthers all took place in Houston, the QB’s meeting with the Falcons was in Atlanta. As Wilson notes, the Falcons were a late addition to the Watson sweepstakes, but there are reasons to be optimistic about their pursuit. Watson grew up in Georgia, and he has a relationship with assistant coach T.J. Yates, who played and coached for the Texans.
While the Falcons’ meeting may have featured a different location, the personnel was generally the same. All four teams had their owners, general managers, and coaches present for their respective meetings, per Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk (on Twitter).
Watson is finished speaking with potential suitors, but he’s still making a decision on his preferred path. Per Florio (on Twitter), the quarterback is “incredibly torn” about his decision and was impressed by all four presentations. This has made it “very difficult” to choose a destination, and there is no specific timetable for his decision.
The 26-year-old passer choosing Atlanta would mean the end of Matt Ryan‘s 14-year run leading the team. With the Falcons getting into the Watson mix late, they informed Ryan last weekend of their plans at quarterback, Chris Mortensen of ESPN.com reports (Twitter link). The Browns did not brief Baker Mayfield on their Watson intentions.
Panthers. They at least have weapons in McCaffrey, Moore, Anderson, Marshall.
Falcons would have to move Ryan and whats there after Pitts?
Saints have Kamara but Thomas is such a wild card and no Sean Payton.
You’re ignoring the Browns who have the best backfield in football and a very good OL. Sure, the receiving weapons are just Cooper and Njoku, but they’re known to be on the look out for a WR in the draft to complement their current corps.
I think Cleveland is a better destination than Carolina. Tepper is going to ruin that franchise.
iftheyreade for Watson, they won’t have that 13th overall pick to draft a WR with
There’s plenty of quality free agent wr though for the browns to sign.
Browns signed Jakeem Grant today and are in the mix for Allen Robinson. Donovan Peoples-Jones and Harrison Bryant are a pair of young receivers too. That’s a really solid receiving corps with Cooper and Njoku.
Those guys are solid but don’t move the needle much for me. I think CLE needs to add one more weapon.
Not ragging on Grant or Bryant, they’re useful; I just don’t think the Browns want to go into this season with only the currently rostered weapons.
Guess none of you ever heard of an offensive line? Of which the SAINTS are the only team in this group that really has one. Not to mention all pro players at every level of the offense and defense. The only team as well without a coach that’s about to get fired so they’re throwing everybody under the bus they can because they think Deshaun will save their job another year. Hey its easier than that stuff called COACHING. Why even try that? Drafting players keeping them in house and developing them for years? That’s for the birds. Well all just throw money at him and beg lol. I’ll be honest as a saints fan it doesn’t bother us too much. Well either come away with Deshaun or Winston and probably draft a QB. I’m actually higher on this group of rookie QBs than most. I especially like Pickett,Willis, and Ridder. Not pinning all our hopes and dreams on a guy that heard everything we had to say,saw everything we had to offer and is “in no hurry to make a decision” about where and when he is going to show up get to work and lead the team.if he can’t see the saints are by far the best team with the most to offer then he deserves what he gets…
Browns finished with better adjusted OL scores than the Saints by every website who scores that. In fact, footballoutsiders named the Browns number 1 OL this past season. If the Saints lose Armstead, their line is in massive trouble because they’ll be starting two bad guards in Ruiz and Throckmorton and a questionable LT.
Will the Browns’ OL really miss J.C. Tretter, though? My guess is yes.
Who wants to live in Cleveland?
IKR Joke of a franchise anyway.
From what I heard, idk how founded it is but CMC would be going to Houston plus a defender and picks including #6 this year.
I doubt Houston wants a high price often injured RB
I doubt they want to be bereft of talent and injuries or not, he brings something that they lose when they lose Watson. They don’t have a face to build around and CMC brings that. Plus he brings what any QB they start will need and that’s versatility.
You say that, and yet, David Johnson…
He’s coming home to the falcons
Atlanta must have lots of massage parlors I’m guessing?
Atlanta is not a safe place for massage parlors
Trade him along with Brandin Cooks. Gives DeShaun another weapon and the Texans more draft capital.
The Browns would be the best fit, but if the last thing I heard is true, pick somewhere else. 3 1st, 2 2nds, Chubb and Ward….NO THANK YOU!
They could ask for that but there is no way that are getting that caliber of haul for him
As many players as the Texans want, it’s more so who’s left for him to play with where he goes honestly.
If we’re talking just football skill, hey, Watson deserves the attention
But how strange is it that a guy with 22 sex assault complaints can pick and choose where he wants to play?
A guy with 27 was recently a one term president.
A guy with at least a dozen was reelected in the 90’s.
Multiple TV hosts, network executives, Hollywood producers…I could go on…
Sadly, not that strange.
Yep, you got me there. Money and power
This could very well be the next RGIII/Herschel Walker trade debacle. He’s probably going to be suspended, hasn’t played in over a year and only won, I think 4 games the last season he played and he’s had 2 torn ACL’s in his career. To me, it’s a huge risk.
Not to mention that whatever team he lands on will have no draft future and one less above average starter. Whichever team gets him is extremely desperate. For what I’m not quite sure yet.
Top 5 QB and is young. Nothing more to say.
I have no dog in this fight.
Y’all really think Houston is gonna trade to a team in the AFC? Wake up
Not in the division but what’s the difference if you face him in the AFC championship game or the Super Bowl?
The Falcons must have some sort of cap trick up their sleeves, as Matt Ryan is untradeable due to his massive cap hit.
Was it a happy ending?
Torn… like when you are working as a trained massage specialist and your options are stay quiet because they won’t even call for a trial or speak out anyway because the behavior needs to be publicly known. Either way it sucks.
Texans don’t need CMC. We got enough of broken down RBs with David Johnson.
In today’s football, kneeling to the flag is worse than 22 potential sexual assaults. He has a no trade clause, scarcity of quality QB’s, no trade clause. He holds all the cards. He also got paid 10 million to sit out.
If the Falcons trade for Watson, and get rid of Matt Ryan, I wonder who else they could attract as weapons for Watson??
All they have right now is Pitts and a couple of decent depth types on a winning team..I know Jarvis Landry is meeting with the Falcons. I wonder if they would sign Landry, and then look to resign the recently released Julio Jones?!? lol I HIGHLY doubt that would happen, but I’ve witnessed crazier things honestly…
Bringing in Watson though could definitely help Atlanta attract Landry among at least one or two other solid free agent targets for Watson..It would definitely be an interesting development, and it would be fun to watch that team led by Arthur Smith…I guess we shall see…
It’s entirely possible that a team could give up the farm for Watson…only to have something so damning come out during one of the 22 civil trials that the team that traded for him benches him just like Houston did.
The risk/reward here is off the charts.
I mean the only thing coming out is how much he’ll have to pay. And whatever suspension he gets. 4 down to 2 or 3.
You don’t think reporters will report on it?
You don’t think they will transcribe the victim’s testimony?
What are those civil suits going to reveal that we didn’t already know?
Nothing major is getting reported and I think that’s obvious by them not charging him and proceeding with a trail. They will go into detail about stuff we know and people will somehow pretend to be shocked like when the video of Ray rice punching his wife was exactly that. We know he is accused of forcing girls to perform sexual acts on him. Is the description gonna change how you feel? Because it shouldn’t.
You just kinda undercut your own argument.
People knew what Ray Rice did, but when a more detailed version came out (in his case, video) his career ended.
A name, a face, a story, appearances on The Today Show, Good Morning America, 60 Minutes later, we’ll see with Watson.
