The Jets are looking to re-sign quarterback Joe Flacco, according to Rich Cimini of ESPN.com (on Twitter). The feeling is mutual, Cimini adds, so a deal could come together rather quickly.

The same goes for youngster Mike White, who can be cuffed as a restricted free agent. So, while other teams around the league are making major moves under center, head coach Robert Saleh intends to keep his current trio, led by Zach Wilson.
The Jets traded for Flacco before the 2021 deadline, sending a conditional sixth-round choice to the Eagles in exchange. The veteran went on to make two appearances, including a Week 11 start against the Dolphins. Between those two games, Flacco completed 64% of his throws for 338 yards and three touchdowns with zero interceptions.
That was a big step up from Flacco’s previous run with Gang Green. In 2020, he completed a career-low 55% of his passes and averaged just 6.4 yards per attempt. Now at the age of 37, Flacco can serve as an experienced mentor for the Jets young signal callers.
In other Jets news, wide receiver Jamison Crowder is expected to reach free agency. This doesn’t come as a huge surprise — Crowder enjoyed a strong 2019 debut with the Jets but has been hampered by injuries ever since. With Crowder out of the picture, the Jets are expected to target a starting-caliber receiver as well as a quality tight end.
Should go all in on Evan Engram! He is due for a big breakout season!!!
How did the Jets ever convince the panthers Sam Darnold was worth a 2nd rounder. This organization has no clue what its doing if it wants to carry 3 QBs.
Wilson is the starter. Make Flacco the back up or go get a veteran back up like Andy Dalton or something. Let White walk.
First round picks should be oline for the jets. Evan Neal or Ikem Ekwonu at 4. Kenyon Green or Tyler Linderbaum at 10 depending on how things shake out. Neal/Becton, Vera Tucker, Linderbaum, Duvernay Tarif, Ekwonu/Becton is definitely an improved unit.
2nd round should be WR and TE – Trey McBride and possibly Treylon Burks
Round out the draft with whatever else you need.
Drafting an interior lineman at 10 is rich. Trade down if you’re going to do that. But also, the idea of not spending any of their four top 40 picks on a defense that needs help at all three levels is nuts.
Protecting and supporting your franchise QB in year 2 is priority # 1.
You’re assuming there is a trade partner. Big IF on your part.
At # 10 Tyler Linderbaum would be a good selection to anchor the offensive line.
That is what free agency is for. They have $50 million or so to help the defense.
Why not spend free agent money on interior linemen then? There are a good number of solid free agent guards. Just because something is a priority doesn’t mean you have to use your most valuable assets on them, especially because of how value plays out. A good free agent CB or pass rusher who isn’t injured or old is going to cost way more than a good guard. And trying to build a defense around free agents is a great way to have a defense that’s fine for one year before it’s expensive and falling apart.
Offensive line is a lot safer pick for the jets this year in the top 10 than over drafting Karlaftis or a CB. Thibodeaux is having red flags pop up about character, supposedly, and work ethic. So you’re saying reach on prospects? Smart plan.
Assuming they will have trade partners doesn’t make much sense. “Oh just trade down” isn’t a plan until they actually do.
You’re just pretzeling to prove your own logic true. The red flags about Thibodeaux seem wildly overblown, especially if you’re talking about him dropping all the way to ten. And while I get injury concerns with Stingley, if someone like Gardner or Hamilton falls to ten, I’d sprint to the podium. I’d also rather gamble on someone like London or even Devin Lloyd than go interior line in the top 10. Those guys may be a little safer to be good starters, but the positional value isn’t there. You can find good interior linemen on the free agent market or even in middle rounds much more easily than you can find a top flight corner or young receiver. Linderbaum is a great prospect, but a center has to be great to be incredible to be worth a top ten pick.
I haven’t seen any mock drafts that have Burks available in the 2nd round
No George Fant on that offensive line?
Graded out at about a 70, Id cut him and use the savings towards fixing the defense.
So if Wilson goes down and Flacco is the QB, who backs him up?
Elite!
Wow, that takes me back.
If I’m NYJ I take a really good defender at 4 and pick the best OT available at 10. Cross, Ekwonu, Neal if he’s there. Then I wait one more year to see what Wilson’s got after an honestly embarrassing showing, partly to him and partly to a lack of offensive molding around him. If he can’t do it after this year they should seriously consider a new direction.
Flacco is 17-3 lifetime against the Browns so he might be a suitable stopgap option for the Steelers.
