Changes to the Dolphins’ offense have already begun on the sidelines, principally with the hiring of Mike McDaniel as head coach. On the field, the team is preparing to add significant pieces to the unit, according to NFL Network’s Cameron Wolfe (video link).

In 2021, the team ranked 22nd in the league in points and 26th in yards, so there is certainly room for improvement in addition to developing quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. Wolfe names Amari Cooper as someone the team is “watching closely” in the event he is cut from the Cowboys. Given the lack of teams interested in trading for the four-time Pro Bowler – and taking on the weighty cap hit his contract carries as a result – it seems likely he will be released.
If that happens, Miami will certainly have competition to land such an accomplished wideout. With more than $50MM of unused space, however, the team will certainly have the spending power to offer Cooper a deal that would at least be close to what he would have made with the Cowboys. In any event, Wolfe notes that the Dolphins are looking to add a third impact piece to their pass-catching corps, in addition to Jaylen Waddle and Mike Gesicki.
With that said, Wolfe names the offensive line as the team’s “top priority”. With the potential for upgrades existing across the front, the team is looking at free agents at each position. Chief among those is tackle Terron Armstead; perhaps the top free agent of any kind this year, the Dolphins would, like with Cooper, need to win a bidding war for his services. Interior options they are watching reportedly include guard Laken Tomlinson and center Ryan Jensen, other established veterans who would help in both run blocking and pass protection.
Whether along the offensive line or amongst skill-position options, the Dolphins are set up to make at least one notable signing next week. Who that will be – and what further moves the team makes – will certainly be worth keeping an eye on in the coming days.
Realistically they need to add to the OL.
I don’t believe their RBs are as bad as they’ve looked for years though they could definitely upgrade there too but it’s reasonable to assume if they upgrade the OL that a decent RB like Marlon Mack could produce for them.
I also don’t know if Cooper falls within their price range. Committing 12M to a WR says you think you can contend for a championship. Now if they can add a better OL AND Cooper then do it. I believe they have the defense to win. But with that doody OL…not so much.
Yeah, it’s goofy when people suggest drafting a RB high to fix the run game when their offensive line might as well include two holograms.
Cooper isn’t going to end up being released anyway. With the WR market drying up fast some team will give Dallas a 2nd or 3rd round draft pick to go ahead and keep him off the market that just saw Mike Williams sign for 20 million per. Someone will trade for him now and just rework the contract to reduce his cap hit.
Right. Someone is gonna pay a 2 or 3 and 20M when they can wait for a cut. Makes total sense.
You take for assumption that player is going to sign with you though… When he hits the open market there will be half a dozen teams making offers and you just saw SD hand Mike Williams the same contract Cooper is owed. Several of them have more money than you do too. To a team like say Jacksonville that has very little chance of luring him in anyway without an over pay suddenly it looks like a lot better deal.
It’s not just about your optics.. You have to consider the angle’s for the other 30 teams involved.
So give up a bigger asset for a guy that makes no real sense for your team. Be honest; you’re a Cowboys fan who thinks they’re somehow going to finesse a pick better than what they should get. There is absolutely no reason to trade a pick for a guy that they reported is likely getting cut. A 5, sure. A 2? Pipe dream.
No I’m common sense person and you’re a Dolphins fan that thinks all these pieces are going to magically fall in line for you lol. Just look at the latest rumor.. C Kirk is looking at 15 million per deal, Mike Williams just signed for 20 per. You aren’t getting Cooper for 12 million. I also didn’t make up the 2nd or 3rd rounder.. Got that from PFF who projected him being traded to Jax for the 33rd and 153rd picks.
Not even close to it. And what article by PFF? A list of trades they want to see happen? That’s not factual. It’s made up. Whereas multiple reports have shown that despite Dallas trying they’re probably going to release him. It’s okay to be wrong. It’s ridiculous to be wrong and keep fighting it.
It is ok to be wrong… and you are lol. You know you are too… That’s why you’re already back tracking from saying why trade from him when he’ll be cut to trying to debate what the return is going to be. Dallas is already getting calls on him and has a couple of weeks to make a decision.

I’m not backtracking in the slightest. He isn’t going to get traded for a 2 or 3. He would get traded for a conditional 4, maybe. But that no team is entertaining that, it pretty much says the opposite of what you are. Again; you are quoting a “wish list” article made before Amari cooper being reported to have no real trade interest.
And I can find 5 more articles of the Jets, Browns, Falcons, Niners and Commanders doing a hypothetical trade, bud. Hypothetical and “teams are willing to do this” are wildly different.
The funniest part on all of this, this was about how they’re probably not going to trade for him. How I think their resources are better spent on an OL. I put a price tag because as I said, teams aren’t going to want to pay 20M for him. If they did, someone would trade for him. 12M on his next contract makes more sense than you’re willing to admit because as I said for the umpteenth time, if a team was willing to do that, they would have already traded for him.
Lmao… How many posts have you made during your meltdown here haha. Like I said before Cooper won’t be cut. You can keep backtracking as far as you like about it. We started At released, then it was a 5th rounder, now it’s a 4th rounder. You’re in full blown panic mode trying to pretend you might not be wrong and it’s hilarious
Oh weird, first thing that pops up on a google search is literally that PFF wants it to happen. Nothing of substance just “trades we want to happen” BEFORE teams were reportedly not interested in a trade for him.
Hahaha keep grasping for straws.. 2nd round, 4th round whatever it still shows you were wrong. So what i took a hypothetical trade from the leading player rating website and used it as an example.. Point here is Cooper isn’t being released and he’s not signing for 12 million. Those were the statements that started this and now you’re just doing anything you can to prevent admitting you were wrong about that. Kind of sad that it’s gone this deep honestly lol
according to spotrac, the Dolphins have the second most cap space in the NFL, behind the Colts. They have $11m more in space than the Jaguars.
Thanks, Honestly haven’t looked at it. I was just going off him saying he didn’t think Cooper was in their price range even at 12 million. Probably should have known not to listen to his word on the subject.
I have no doubt Miami could go get him if they want but all signs point to he’s not really going to be released so it comes down to who makes the best offer to acquire him. I just used Jax as an example because PFF did.
Literally haven’t backtracked, a team would pay a 5 to take on his contract, not a 2 or 3 like you said. And if they think he’s getting cut, why would they trade anything?
Your lack of reading comprehension is a you problem. You claim he’s not getting cut based on nothing where legitimate reports came out that no one was interested in a trade for him.
And then a week later reports came out that they are getting calls on him once everyone saw the WR market.. This isn’t complex you just don’t want to hear it. With every new deal Cooper’s price become less of a burden.
Back to bed now child
Miami has the most money in the league to spend, so yea they have the most money to get Cooper and two stud OL men
A second rounder in 2021. A first, a second, and a fourth in 2020. A third rounder in 2019. An amazing number of darts to throw at the offensive line and not hit the board once. Maybe one of them still turns into a useful starter, but yikes.
Tunsil fell into the Dolphins’ lap in Grier’s first draft. They’ve been swinging and missing at that line ever since they traded him.
Cooper should be looking for a ring at this stage of his career not money, and with tua under center and a absolutely loaded AFC I don’t see MIA reaching the super bowl for at least 2-3 seasons. Money is nice, but your name n legacy will be soon forgotten without a ring. But to each there own when it comes to what you want in life.
Starts at the QB position. How are they going to get a competent starter?
They desperately need upgrade at RB. The 9ers style offense is about physical running, beating the other team up. The Fins need a complete back. All of there backs are small, more 3rd down type. Breeze Hall with first pick would be a great pick!!
The Shanahan offense turns random dudes into stud RBs when it’s working well. SF shelled out for McKinnon and traded up to draft Sermon, but their best RBs have been a UDFA and a late rounder (Mostert and Mitchell). A Hall or Walker would be fun, but fixing the line is more important to the run game.
I was about to say the same thing but Oof is right here. Shanahan, harbaugh and Belichick are guys who have shown it really doesn’t matter who is back there. They’re gonna produce well.
Breece Hall might be an upgrade but again, with no upgrade on the OL, they could bring back Walter Payton from a time machine and he isn’t running through 8 guys loading the box against a poor OL.
Buy a OT and a WR. Draft a RB in the 2nd or 3rd. Bring in Mostert. And get Linderbaum in the 1st to anchor your line at C.
I wish linderbaum would fall that far, but I doubt it
Lol waste of money with Tua as QB.
Better look at getting a better QB
