Efe Obada has found his latest home in the NFL. The Commanders announced on Wednesday that they are signing the veteran defensive end.
Obada, who will be 30 by the start of the 2022 season, has played four seasons in the league. The first three of those came with the Panthers, where he suited up for 42 games. The 2019 season saw him make a career-high 24 tackles, but it’s the only year in which he didn’t register a sack.
Obada’s ability to get to the quarterback was on display the following season, as he posted 5.5 sacks, to go along with a pair of forced fumbles. After signing back-to-back one-year deals to stay in Carolina, the former UDFA joined the Bills last offseason. He started one of ten games in Buffalo, registering 3.5 sacks.
Obada – who was born in Nigeria and raised in London – is best known for a unique distinction he holds. After starting his football career with the London Warriors of the British American Football Association, he entered the NFL via the International Player Pathway Program. When he successfully made the Panthers’ 53-man roster in 2018, he became the first player to do so who took that route.
Now, Obada will join a Commanders’ defensive front headed by edge rushers Chase Young and Montez Sweat. Given his success as a rotational option, he should play a role in helping the unit improve on its disappointing performance in 2021.
So – again, why do you close the comments on the Kap thread… why wait until you get done typing it out before it says it’s closed. Can’t it just say “ no comments”
Anyway – sucks to be Baker Mayfield when they are looking at Kap over him.
Adam didn’t write the Kap article so your complaining to the wrong guy.
I don’t care who writes it , the message was to the site …
Where my man comments closed be
Zachary Links is a coward that never allows comments on his articles. Therefore I will comment about Kaepernick here…
I really hope a team signs him and plays him. Put him on the Seahawks or a team that needs a QB. Start him. Let him show what he is, which any objective fan knows is a mediocre QB who benefitted from Jim Harbaugh’s system, and can’t just waltz into the league after being gone for years and play well at the game’s most important position. Let’s just get this over with.
I don’t think it counts as waltzing in after five years of being blackballed.
He’s chosen to stay out this long. He had other opportunities. A team even offered him a contract. But it wasn’t good enough for him.
You mean a nickel and dime offer five years ago?
That’s a lot of anger. Why is that? You this mad at all the other mediocre starting QBs in the NFL?
Heck of a player. Smoked my Packers more than once. Wish him the best but might be too late resurrect his career at this point. A real shame he was blackballed for engaging in a peaceful display to shed light on an important issue.
On another note, Obada sounds like a good signing for WFT.
Yes, I wish he hadn’t been blackballed at all so he could have continued to play poorly and get benched for guys like Blaine Gabbert. (Everyone seems to forget he was benched for Gabbert in 2015 before he ever started protesting). He just wasn’t that great after Harbaugh was gone.
And yet so many guys who have NEVER had a good season in any system keep getting shots.
Unless there’s other QB’s pretending to be a victim and profiting off of it, no.
He was blackballed from one of the most lucrative jobs in all of sports.
And he’s made millions from Nike and Netflix and whoever else. He’s done just fine with the role he chose.
It was the only role left when the MFL blackballed him.
