The Chiefs are bringing in a veteran running back. According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero (on Twitter), Kansas City is signing RB Ronald Jones to a one-year deal. The running back can earn up to $5MM on his one-year pact (per Pelissero on Twitter).

Jones met with the Chiefs earlier this week alongside wideout Marquez Valdes-Scantling. MVS ended up inking a three-year, $30MM pact with the Chiefs.
Jones was a 2018 second-round pick by the Buccaneers. He saw an inconsistent role during his first four seasons in the NFL; he had more than 1,000 yards from scrimmage in both 2019 and 2020, but he was limited to only 492 yards from scrimmage in 2021 while playing second fiddle to Leonard Fournette. Jones does have some pass-catching ability (76 career receptions) and he’s averaged a modest 4.5 yards on his rushing attempts, so there’s a good chance he’ll be a usable piece in the Chiefs offense.
Clyde Edwards-Helaire should return to the top of the depth chart in 2022, but backups Jerick McKinnon and Darrel Williams are both free agents. That means Jones will likely compete for backup reps with Derrick Gore.
You will find that he out plays CEH. Very underrated running back. Never got a clear shot. I’m not a Chiefs fan … I’m a Bengals fan and was hoping Bengals would consider him … he’d be an upgrade over Perine if Mixon went down. I really don’t think he’s far off of Mixon as for talent just needs opportunity
Unless he suddenly improves a lot at receiving and/or blocking, it’s hard to see him as much more than a rotational back. Not that CEH is that high a bar to clear.
Agreed all tho a better receiver than given credit for still needs polish. As a pure runner he is better than anything they have. Blocking is average. KC offense will be interesting this year … should be more balanced. Teams will definitely line up differently with Hill gone.
Solid signing. Especially since they’ll be forced to run the ball so much this year.
The only teams that are forced to run either have untrustworthy QBs or big leads.
What happened to Clyde Edwards-Helaire?? His first season, seemed to have a really promising year. Then, I know he struggled with some injuries, but has it just been injuries, or what??
At one point, he was looking like he was going to he one of the better dual-threat RBs in the league for the Chiefs!?!
CEH is the latest version of Gio Bernard … very good role player , receiver , change of pace guy but he will never be a bell cow RB1.
Untapped production still in these legs. Chiefs got richer on offense. I was wondering who was going to steal him.
