The Bears restructured Khalil Mack‘s contract on two occasions. After adding Mack via trade, the Chargers will make it three restructures for the All-Pro defender.
The Bolts created $9MM in cap space by restructuring their recently acquired pass rusher’s deal, Field Yates of ESPN.com tweets. Mack will see $13.5MM of his 2022 base salary converted to a signing bonus.
Although the Chargers have added Mack’s $23.5MM-per-year contract, signed J.C. Jackson to a $16.5MM-AAV deal and reached an agreement with Sebastian Joseph-Day, they are still carrying more than $30MM in cap space. Their recent cut of Bryan Bulaga created $10.7MM in cap space. On Day 4 of the 2022 league year, Los Angeles’ AFC team ranks fifth in the league in cap room.
Mack’s through-2024 deal now includes $27MM-plus cap figures for the 2023 and ’24 seasons. In terms of per-year average, Mack and Joey Bosa ($27MM AAV) represent the most expensive pass-rushing duo in NFL history. But the Chargers will be able to further bolster their roster around Justin Herbert and their new outside linebacker tandem.
To finish FA
Get Geno Atkins for some experienced depth up front on a cheap 1 year 2 mil deal.
OBJ comes across town on a 2 year 16mil deal.
Will Hernandez can get a 2 year 7mil deal
Tyler Conklin gets a 2 year 10 mil deal
And lastly Mitchell Schwartz gets a 1 year 8mil deal that could rise to 12mil.
Come the draft I’d trade back from the 17th pick to the 43rd and 58th picks with the Falcons.
Then I’d take Christian Harris and Trey McBride in the second round and in the third get Jamaree Slayer.
Heading into next season you have Herbert, Ekler, Allen, Williams, OBJ, and McBride as your main attacking threats. With depth in the form of Kelley, Palmer and Conklin. On the line you have Slater, Feiler, Linsley, Slayer/Hernandez and Schwartz/Norton.
Defensively you’ll be very strong with Bosa, Mack, Jackson, James and Day leading the way. But you’ll have good complementary players too with Tillery, Johnson, Atkins, Covington, Harris, Murray, Samuel, Davis and Adderley.
The division looks really tough but I think the chargers could actually come out on top. All three teams in their division have shaky o lines and putting pressure on the QB will be huge. We have seen Mahomes struggle when under pressure, Carr has holes in front of him and a new HC and Denver has a new QB who needs to learn a new play book and get to know his receivers aswell as overcome the issues on the line.
That’s why when it comes to finishing this chargers team I think you need to get a quality 3rd WR, get a good TE in the draft, get some more protection for Herbert and then just round out the defence with role players.
The Chargers lack a smart head coach. They aren’t winning the West with the other 3 beast.
His contract was restructured once in Chicago and now again. This guy’s gonna still be getting checks when he’s 50.
Seriously? The bears traded their best defensive players for only a 2nd round this year and 4th round next year.
