The Bears are cutting running back Tarik Cohen (Twitter link via Adam Schefter of ESPN.com). Cohen has been unable to pass a physical on his knee injury, so the move will come with an injury designation.

The Bears will save $2.25MM in cap room by releasing Cohen, the sure-handed running back who starred in Chicago’s offense for years. Unfortunately, injuries have taken his career off track — he’s missed 30 straight games since his torn ACL.
Cohen, a 2017 fourth-round pick, spent his entire career in Chicago up until this point. Some of his finest work came in 2018, when he finished with 1,169 yards from scrimmage and eight touchdowns. On top of that, he was a beast in the return game with a league-leading 411 punt return yards. That showing earned him both All-Pro and Pro Bowl nods.
He later started a career-high eleven games in 2019, but he was limited to just 669 all-purpose yards. Now, the Bears’ new regime led by Ryan Poles is moving on from the rest of his three-year, $17.25MM deal.
The Bears’ return game is now led by Jakeem Grant, an impending free agent who is expected to have a “robust” market next week. Grant, acquired by the Bears midway through the season, totaled 309 punt return years between Miami and Chicago.
Had to be done. It’s a shame he couldn’t recover.
The lack of transparency in regards to the severity of his injury was upsetting.
Why? I’m sure the Bears doctors knew what was going on. Physically Unable to Perform seems pretty reasonable for everyone else to need to know.
I wouldn’t call it “upsetting”, but I get what he’s saying. A torn ACL doesn’t require 30 months to heal. He was expected to be ready for last season with not one word from the Bears when it didn’t happen. Why not tell us what’s going on? It’s not like they could’ve traded him.

Who hurt you, young keyboard warrior?
Man, that sucks. Not a Bears fan, but he was really fun to watch. Hope he can recover eventually.
Ouch, we better resign Grant at least, Bears seem to have a knack at signing some of the best returners in the game.
Another great Pace extension as he never played another game after signing it. Nobody’s perfect. Except Pace. He’s wrong every time.
It’s about time Georgie.that didn’t take too long.
HIPPA didn’t matter when it came to vax status
Sad the Bears didn’t trade him after his first season. He was a fools gold type of player, and often hurt the team more than helped. I bet they could have traded him to some other team for a 2nd or 3rd rd draft pick when he was healthy, but now? Best to just cut the guy loose so he is not ‘recovering’ for another year while grabbing a check. I also notice players on the Bears typically have a harder time ‘healing’ and staying healthy, but when they go to another team they play a whole season and make a pro bowl.. How much of that really is the Bears training staff vs players lack of heart and want when in Chicago? I dunno.
I bet you don’t know anything about the Bears or even football.
