It sounds like Bobby Wagner won’t be out of work for long. The 49ers, Rams, and Cardinals are interested in the longtime Seahawks linebacker, according to sources who spoke with NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport (Twitter link).

Those NFC West teams are already familiar with what Wagner brings to the table, especially since they’ve each faced him twice per regular season. Of course, they still have to consider the finances. In the case of the star-studded Rams, there’s no room to give Wagner the type of deal he was playing under before. They won’t approach his old $16MM/year contract, but Jourdan Rodrigue of TheAthletic.com hears that they are willing to go into the $4MM-$5MM range. That may or may not work for Wagner, who would also have to cede snaps to youngster Ernest Jones.
Wagner, 32 in June, spent his entire career in Seattle, up until yesterday’s release. The 2012 second-round pick was a pillar of the Seahawks’ D from the jump, starting 15 games as a rookie and 150 games to date. His tenure also saw 16 playoff starts, including the post-2013 campaign which ended in a Super Bowl.
All together, Wagner leaves the Seahawks as an eight-time All Pro and the franchise’s’ all-time leader in total tackles. Now, the Seahawks could be on the verge of seeing him at least twice in 2022.
Come on chiefs. He would be a great leader for nick bolton and willie gay
He’d also sideline one of them. If you sign him, it’s probably sign they are moving on from Gay.
This could be a pretty solid move for the 49ers. Trade Greenlaw for a 3-4 rounder to someone, resign RFA Al-Shaair, and then sign Wagner which would only use up a marginal amount of cap with the savings from Greenlaw..
Wagner and Warner could be a ridiculously good combo against the run and facing the passing game. He isn’t quite what he used to be, but Wagner still knows how to get the job done at a high level
His 75-80% is still a good bit better than mosts 100%
I just can’t imagine him signing with any of them considering this is his last chance at a decent contract. 10M per year is probably what he could get. I don’t know that any of them have that.
Yeah, even with a Greenlaw trade freeing up 3-4 mil..I don’t know that I could see the 49ers committing 3years and 30 mil to Wagner..
They just have more pressing needs, and could just keep Greenlaw for all that…
Kind of where I’m at. While also having Warner. If he took a smaller deal, sure. All the sense. Without that, just weird
It all depends on what’s more important to him. Money or Championships.
He would fit nicely with SF if he takes a reduced contract.
The Rams would probably be conceding Von Miller to free agency if they go after Wagner.
As for the Cardinals…….they have issues right now…..lol
C’mon Chargers! He’d revamp the the linebacking core and go a long way in fixing the run defense
Dang, if the Chargers got Wagner, and then drafted Jordan Davis they could go from a very mediocre run defense to a really good run defense in one year!!
I just don’t see it. He might be better than Murray but they’d be better off improving the DL instead of adding another LB. I’m not saying it’s even a bad move but it doesn’t fix the immediate need. You’re going to duplicate in a spot that probably doesn’t fix it more than having high tier DL would.
Why the Cardinals? They live inside OTB LB’s. They have so many other concerns to deal with.
*Love
Because Wagner’s made a Pro Bowl. It’s a rule around there, they have to try and get him.
I hope he resigns in Seattle. He is making too much for his skill set anymore. I was sad to see him get released but I believe it was to see what he was worth. Hopefully he doesn’t pull that crap Hutchison did in Minny. He can’t do exactly the same because the league got rid of it.
If he does sign with a Different team stay out of the NFCW. Sherm did that cause he was pissed at Pete. Signing with SF was a slap in the face. I hope he comes back we still need him. He will at least do a sign and retire here.
I’m guessing they cut him in part so that he could go sign with a contender of his choosing after they traded Wilson and committed to a down year.
They are moving on and have to rebuild that defense. I doubt Wagner wants to deal with that. He can find a better team to play for.
