Jonathan Gannon is turning into a popular name in the HC circuit, and the defensive guru has now received interest from a third team. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter (via Twitter), the Texans requested permission to interview the Eagles defensive coordinator.
Gannon has spent 15 years as a coach and scout. Following a three-year stint as the Colts defensive backs coach, he was hired as the Eagles defensive coordinator last offseason. During his first season in the role, the Eagles defense ranked top-10 in yards allowed, with Philly’s rush defense showing particular promise.
The Broncos and Vikings have already requested permission to speak with Gannon. The 39-year-old will now have plenty of time to interview after Philly was bounced from the postseason.
In Houston, Gannon joins a growing list of candidates that already includes:
- Brian Flores, former head coach (Dolphins): Interviewed 1/14
- Joe Lombardi, offensive coordinator (Chargers): Interviewed 1/15
- Jerod Mayo, linebackers coach (Patriots): Mentioned as candidate
- Hines Ward, wide receivers coach (Florida Atlantic): Interviewed 1/15
Defensive Guru …. HAHAHA.
Maybe against 2nd and 3rd string QB’s. His defenses got shredded by the real NFL QB’s.
Can’t stop laughing about that Guru line.
I don’t get it either. Do not like him whatsoever. I feel like Steichen did better as an OC, so he could’ve been the one getting the interviews than Gannon. Gannon hasn’t done much to deserve this sort of attention but, boy, would I be glad to see him gone!
Also, the best compliment given is they were in top-10 in yards allowed. Well, the Eagles decided to run the ball after the first month. Running the ball controls the clock giving the other offense less total possessions. Brady just destroyed this defense. Yea, it was Brady but opposing QB’s were throwing for over 80% early on.
The D-line showed promise.
Somebody please give him a head coaching job.
Agreed! I have no idea why he got one HC interview request, let alone three! That being said, I am glad because that means someone else can deal with him except us, so I hope he gets hired and we get a new, better DC!
Guru? He may be the worst defensive coordinator in NFL history. He certainly is the worst Eagles defensive coordinator ever. If the other team has marginal talent your team has no chance. End of that discussion
You can have him
Bhaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. Bhhhhhhhhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.
