Pretty sure Jacoby Stevens is a Safety, unless he’s began the transition to switching over to LB..
I don’t really remember him being a tweener, so that would be a but of a surprise if he is a LB now..
Curious, I it was just a simple, easy mistake, or has he made a position change??
Hard to tell these days with so many safeties becoming ILB, or basically being used as ILB..
He’s listed at 6’2” 230lbs. so he certainly has the size to play LB. It’s a shame that Philly places such little value on their LBs anymore that they’ll plug it with converts or guys from the CFL instead of investing in quality LBs that could anchor the D for years.
Yeah, I’m unsure of this one myself. Coming out of the draft, he’s been listed as a safety but, throughout the season, he’s been listed as a LB. Iirc, I think he may have even played some snaps at LB. I think they might be transitioning him over to this position then.
bravesfan88, ah ok, now I see what we both missed. This article clears things up: link to nashvillepost.com.
So, apparently, he was drafted to play LB. Safety was never in play for him in the NFL I guess.
Nice, thank you!! Glad to clear things up, I just really wasn’t sure, because I really couldn’t remember him except only playing safety in college.
Although, I can’t say I’m surprised, these days more and more safeties are being used as ILB on passing downs and in Nickel and dime situations.
My favorite team, the 49ers, have done something similar with Marcel Harris, who was a decent safety, but one who struggled getting beat down the field. They’ve also played their rookie Hufanga from USC as an ILB, due to his solid skills near the LOS as a relative box safety..
It seems like much like basketball, football they’re starting to go more towards guys that are relative tweeners. Before, they were kind of looked down upon, but now they’re in demand, similar to smaller edge rushers that aren’t necessarily big enough to be DE’s.
With overall speed being more necessary in today’s game, and with the field being spread out more horizontally, these types of players are starting to become more and more valuable..
Interesting how the game evolves and develops over the years with the rule changes and with varying philosophies being on top. One thing that won’t change though, is that it’ll always he a copycat league, and thats all sports!!
Eagles switched him to lb when they drafted him, just like they did with Nate Gerry
