The Jaguars are meeting with Jim Caldwell today to discuss their head coaching vacancy, according to Eugene Frenette of the Florida Times-Union (Twitter link). Caldwell is the second candidate to interview with Jacksonville, following last week’s chat with ex-Eagles HC Doug Pederson.

There will be plenty more interviews to come as the Jaguars have already requested sit-downs with at least eight candidates:
- Todd Bowles, defensive coordinator (Buccaneers): Interview requested
- Jim Caldwell, former head coach (Lions)
- Matt Eberflus, defensive coordinator (Colts): Interview requested
- Nathaniel Hackett, offensive coordinator (Packers): Interview requested
- Byron Leftwich, offensive coordinator (Buccaneers): Interview requested
- Kellen Moore, offensive coordinator (Cowboys): Interview requested
- Doug Pederson, former head coach (Eagles): Interview requested
- Dan Quinn, defensive coordinator (Cowboys): Declined early interview
Caldwell, 66, served as the Dolphins’ quarterbacks coach in 2019 before health issues forced him to step aside. Fortunately, he’s said to be back to full health now. Between his time with the Colts and Lions, Caldwell owns a career 62-50 record as a head coach with four playoff berths and one Super Bowl appearance.
Caldwell really deserves another shot. Fired by the Colts after a Manningless season and he damn sure had the most success of any recent Lions coach.
Yeah, Matt Patricia really put Caldwell in perspective. He won games AND didn’t alienate everyone in sight?
If he does get this job he will become the FIRST former Lions coach to ever get a second chance at being a Head Coach again.
Of all of the candidates that are public knowledge, this is the right choice. Caldwell’s been out of coaching for a while, so hopefully he’s still sharp. Still, he seems to have the right combination of temperament, experience, and demonstrated results to give Jacksonville a chance at building a solid foundation.
Caldwell would be an outstanding choice for several teams. He isn’t flashy but seems to get the most out of his talent. I think his no nonsense calming style could be perfect for Jacksonville or Las Vegas. Hell, I wouldn’t even mind the Bears taking a look at him.
Hackett feels like the choice for the job. Like Harbaugh and Quinn too if they go that route.
The Jags need to go with a proven head coach commodity. Caldwell is certainly someone to consider, but something about his complete disappearance over the last few years makes me wonder about him. I’d go with Pederson or Del Rio.
The only headline i want to read is 1 hour after the Bears game Sunday that Pace and Nagy are fired and the McCaskey’s are selling.
Oh that will bring excitement to north Florida for sure.
