The Broncos could be on the verge of naming their next head coach. Broncos GM George Paton has narrowed his search to just “a few” candidates, according to ESPN.com’s Jeremy Fowler (Twitter link). It’s not clear who the finalists are, but many around the league believe that Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn is among the frontrunners.
To date, the Broncos have interviewed at least ten candidates for their head coaching vacancy:
- Eric Bieniemy, offensive coordinator (Chiefs): Interviewed 1/21
- Brian Callahan, offensive coordinator (Bengals): Interviewed 1/20
- Jonathan Gannon, defensive coordinator (Eagles): Interviewed 1/19
- Luke Getsy, quarterbacks coach (Packers): Interviewed 1/14
- Aaron Glenn, defensive coordinator (Lions): Interviewed 1/13
- Nathaniel Hackett, offensive coordinator (Packers): Interviewed 1/15
- Jerod Mayo, linebackers coach (Patriots): Interviewed 1/19
- Kellen Moore, offensive coordinator (Cowboys): Interviewed 1/18
- Kevin O’Connell, offensive coordinator (Rams): Interviewed 1/20
- Dan Quinn, defensive coordinator (Cowboys): Interviewed 1/18
Quinn, 51, has become a consistent presence in this cycle, popping up with six of the seven clubs looking for a head coach. Beyond the Broncos, the Bears, Jaguars, Dolphins, Vikings, and Giants have had him in their sights. Quinn surely has his own shortlist of favorites, one that might exclude the Jaguars since he declined to interview with them during the season. Meanwhile, the Giants job could hold extra appeal for him since he grew up in nearby Orange, NJ.
This has Dan Quinn written all over it
Gonna be AAron’s call
I’ve said this ad nauseam but I’ll say it again-firing Vic Fangio to hire Dan Quinn is colossally redundant. Especially when the defense will have to re-tool to fit Quinn’s schemes.
My thoughts exactly
Yup
28-3
Denver needs somebody who can get 9 wins out of sombody’s cast-off/backup quarterback.
Quinn isn’t that guy. He’s a less-capable version of Fangio.
Yes. Bienemy is the perfect guy for the job! They need someone to transform the offense – the defense is already good.
EB in Chicago could work well with Justin Fields.
I second the Chicago comment. I think Fields would respond well to Bienemy. He’d be suited for that part of the job without question.
Sure, that works too.
Broncos need to go with a young offensive coach as next head coach. Quinn seems to be to be Fangio 2.0. I really like Brian Callahan. Hire Callahan and draft QB with first round pick.
Kellen Moore?
