When the Giants announced that quarterback Daniel Jones would miss their Week 13 matchup in Miami after suffering a sprained neck, they indicated that a long-term absence could be possible. Head coach Joe Judge announced after today’s loss in Los Angeles that Jones would be seeking further tests on Monday.
Earlier this week, Judge had stated there is “no information in any way, shape, or form that leads us to think there is a threat long-term,” and that they were just waiting for him to be cleared for contact. Today’s comments don’t necessarily point to the contrary, but the announced location of Jones’s tests open speculation about the seriousness of his neck injury.
Jones will be going to New York City’s Hospital for Special Surgery to see Dr. Frank Cammisa, HSS’s Chief Emeritus of Spine services and a specialist in surgery for spinal disorders. Jones has already been to Los Angeles to see orthopedic spine surgeon Dr. Robert Watkins III, who did not clear Jones for contact before their game against the Chargers.
It’s entirely possible that the Giants are simply seeking the opinions of people at the top of their field on how best to treat a minor injury. CBS Sports had sources knowledgeable in the field explain that specialists could be trying to identify if Jones has ligament damage or a bruised spinal cord, injuries that could spell the end of Jones’s season. These sources also explain that an MRI could return positive results pointing to a much simpler recovery.
That being said, until Jones is cleared for contact and back out on the practice field, expect Mike Glennon to be starting his third straight game when the Cowboys come to town next Sunday. The Giants are hoping that Monday’s tests will point to Sunday’s matchup being the last time Glennon has to fill in for Jones.
Who cares. This team and organization is a joke. A once franchise is a laughing stock. Our RB stinks QB mediocre, O line zip. Getty destroyed this team, new a new GM to clean house.
Time to clean house (again, I’m afraid). Gettleman should announce his retirement immediately, why wait until this fiasco of a season is over. Team gets a jump on others who will also be looking for a new GM. Let the new GM pick his own Head Coach. If Mara forces Judge on the next GM, many of the better candidates will refuse to even apply; meaning they’ll only get the marginal or dreamer applicants (meaning those looking for their first shot running a team). Giants need a proven talent evaluator who can hit the ground running, not a learn-on-the-job newbie.
This once proud franchise is a complete joke. I had season tickets for years and bailed back in 2017, best decision of my life.
Need a clean sweep – GM, HC, franchise QB. Both the o-line and d-line. It doesn’t matter which QB is back there though if they take a 3 step drop and have a blitzer wrapped around them. It also doesn’t matter what RB you have if no holes can be opened. DJ is too turnover prone and can’t “win despite the o-line” like Eli could. On the other side, if dust can gather on the opposing QB before the Giants’ pass rush can get to him or their RB gets into the secondary so frequently some changes needed there!
This won’t be the year to draft a franchise QB though, the draft class is underwhelming. Stick DANNY DIMES on IR, start packing up Gettleman’s office now, tell Jones and Judge they get one more season to show they should still be here.
Unload Judge. Get a real HC, and NOT from Belichickland.
I hope he’s done
Never been a big Jones supporter but I support him today. Do the right thing Giants. IR him. Who cares what the medical team says. It’s his neck. No chances.
It’s not taking any chances if he gets a clean MRI and the top doctors on these types of injuries clear him. Flying him all over the country to see the best spine and neck doctors would qualify to me as not taking chances.
Why don’t they just transplant some of Mike Glennon’s neck? He’s got plenty and I’m sure he’s a team player.
Would you really want to get any kind of transplant from a QB who is 1-18 when attempting more than 25 passes a game?
