If Odell Beckham Jr. ends up getting cut by the Browns, it sounds like he’ll have a list of potential suitors. Sources tell Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com that the Saints, 49ers, and Seahawks would be among the teams interested in adding OBJ.
The Saints were mentioned as a landing spot for Beckham prior to the trade deadline, but the two sides were unable to hammer out a deal. New Orleans’ need for a wideout was exacerbated following news that Michael Thomas won’t play this season. Running back Alvin Kamara currently leads the team in receptions, and the team will continue to look toward the waiver wire and free agency for reinforcement, regardless of how the OBJ saga unfolds in Cleveland.
The 49ers have plenty of talented wideouts in Deebo Samuel, Brandon Aiyuk, and Mohamed Sanu, and they’ll get another big target back once tight end George Kittle returns to the lineup. However, considering the offense’s inconsistency, you can’t blame the 49ers for wanting to add another player at the position. The Seahawks are another team that are hoping to make a late run towards the playoffs in the tough NFC West. Tyler Lockett and D.K. Metcalf won’t be bumped from atop the depth chart, but OBJ would provide Russell Wilson with another reliable option (once the QB returns from injury).
Florio mentions that the Packers could make sense as a suitor, but the team has “yet to emerge as a viable destination.” Further, Florio notes that the Buccaneers would make sense considering Tom Brady‘s ability to recruit receivers to Tampa Bay, but it doesn’t sound like they’ve been mentioned as a suitor.
Because the missing piece for the last place Seahawks is OBJ
Ignorant post as expected. Don’t worry about the return of Wilson or the schedule being much more favorable. Seahawks will win at least 9 games which may be a playoff
Lost like 3 games by a combined 10 points…..
Good to know theres that extra column in the standings CL for Close Losses. Pile up enough of them and you can still get into the playoffs…
The missing piece was suppose to be Josh Gordon but I can see the Seahawks being happy with any dysfunctional substitute.
Ha ha, so first of all you think Seahawks will go 6-3 to finish the year…. That’s great in and of itself. But then you think a 9-8 team could make the playoffs? In the NFC as a wildcard I’m guessing 11 wins is what it’s gonna take
Well hate beak to you and your so call football knowledge. But the Panthers are in the last playoff spot as right now at 4 and 4. The Seahawks are 3 and 5 so that is one game back. It is more likely the Seahawks go 7 and 2 than the Panthers going 6 and 3. However I am sorry to say that you can’t fix stupid.
Saints make the most sense. He’s from Louisiana, the Saints are in contention, and Micheal Thomas isn’t coming back this year. Not sure Taysom hill will be able to get him the ball but considering he’s coming from Baker Mayfield he should be use to that.
Baker Mayfield is to Taysom Hill what Dan Marino is to Baker Mayfield
I’m guessing he answers any call that Tom Brady makes and I’ll bet Tom’s got him on speed dial.
I feel sorry for the next team that thinks he won’t be a distraction for them
Being a lightning rod for media attention isn’t necessarily a bad thing if it takes some heat off your teammates.
I have said it since I heard he might get waived that once he clears waivers these 3 teams would be the top 3 teams chasing him. For me, Seattle doesn’t make sense. Could say the same for the 49ers but Shanahan has had a thing for OBJ for a long time so doesn’t surprise me plus Aiyuks inconsistencies this season and they are always dealing with injuries, actually Deebo is hanged up right now so they do make some sense, just don’t have the cap space, not right now at least. I’m sure they could clear a little and make it a 2 year deal where he got more guaranteed money next year but Saints make the most sense of these 3. I think all 3 teams would have to be creative with cap space but Saints need WRs bad and even though they don’t really have a QB who will stretch the field I’m sure they’d still get a lot of usage out of him, a lot more than rbe Browns have at least. Personally, I’d love to see him going to my 49ers but I think it’s wishful thinking, I’m sure Seattle would love to have him but I just don’t see it, they have two really good WRs and it would just be drama with him not getting enough passes his way. Saints just make too much sense. Kind of surprised we haven’t heard the Ravens though, they’d make more sense than any team but maybe they’ll get in the mix. As of right now this all rumors anyways so who knows if these are the only 3 are if any of them are for sure interested, although I’m sure the saints are since they tried trading for him but we will see I guess. 49ers don’t really get big time players like this in free agency or trades so I doubt they’ll start now but I would love it if they did. My money is on the saints of the 3 though for sure
TL:DR
Surprised not to see the Raiders on the list of potential suitors, we obviously have a newfound glaring need
I was thinking the same thing.
He signs in New England!
I’m a bears fan but if he smart he would go to GB I’d be happier if he went to Seattle Him And Metvalf or him and Adams Rodgers vs Stafford or Rodgers vs Brady both teams loaded offensively
Niners could trade Ayiuk and a couple late picks for OBJ. Browns get themselves back a quality young receiver in Ayiuk as a replacement, who might be a better fit cause OBJ hasn’t been good.
In the last two seasons since moving to Cleveland he’s played 13 games for 40 catches, 500 yards and 3 TDs.
Aiyuk in his only 2 seasons in the league has 12 games for 61 catches 750 yards and 5 TDs.
Niners get themselves a top quality receiver. Between him Kittle and Samuel you have three really good options plus a great receiving FB.
Niners have the o line, they have the top quality defence, with OBJ Samuel and Kittle they would have top receivers and Mitchell looks really solid as a RB. Just need Jimmy or Trey to step up, hopefully Trey with a full offseason with the team after learning some of the plays will be ready to go in year 2
Trade deadline has passed. He can be cut and wait to be claimed on waivers and if unclaimed become a free agent but it’s too late for a trade.
Offseason
You are an idiot. He is on waivers now.
Why would anyone want him at this point in the season. He is no longer a difference maker and if you go by history soon to injured again? A playoff team would t want to have the chemistry killer, then again Tampa Bay picked up AB pretty much the same way.
He is still a good player. The issue was clearly with his QB and not with his ability.
That’s Mr. Beckham Sr., but you left out his ability to actually get on the field and contribute.
Two different type of people AB have issues way from his childhood. No one has held him accountable for the time he punched his step father in the face to just before he joined the Bucs he damaged property. They give him a pass because he plays football and thats what he posted on twitter to the young lady, that no one will believe her because he’s an all pro.
On the other hand OBJ was a good player with NY until coaches changed. Management was bad … with the Browns in his first season both management and the HC was bad. The issue now, the Browns are a more run oriented offense similar to what he had at LSU and like LSU he beats his man. The main problem Baker don’t read his progressions, he only throw to his favorite guy. In 3 out of 7 game he has not thrown a TD. this is a concern.
I was thinking the same thing.
One catch wonder
Yeah but he makes those great one handed catches in practice and pregame all the time…
Pretty good career stats for a “One catch wonder.”
time for tom brady to tell management to grab OBJ
Anyone who picks up OBJ and thinks they will get a healthy, productive, good teammate is badly mistaken. He’s kind of following the same career arc as TO without the long track record of productivity…. and has much worse health.
First his problem was the kicking net. Then Eli Manning. Then Giants coaching. Then Mara. He shut up for a couple months after the trade but it didn’t take long, he started with Browns coaching and now its Baker Mayfield.
Its never O’Dell, its never his inability to stay healthy, its never his declining performance level since his 3rd season, its never the fact he lost that unique mid-route change of pace ability and breakaway speed he had early on and is now basically an average receiver who can make a fancy one handed catch and is put together with tinfoil and paper clips.
The guy got paid, there’s a short circuit in his brain, and the only reason he isn’t having press conferences while doing shirtless sit ups in his driveway is because its November in Cleveland.
He won’t be the positive difference maker, he’ll be a distraction.
I really liked OBJ when he burst onto the scene too, and the problem was – and remains – the O-line on the Giants. Can’t get him the ball when the QB drops back 3 steps and already has a defender wrapped around him.
The only guarantees a team that picks him up have are distractions and IR stints.
Ask the Bucs how A Brown worked out. distraction? Diva?
It’s all in the right opportunity and team. No one knows, specially not you.
I would think Saints. They have a need. He went to LSU. Sean Payton seems like the Coach to take on this reclamation project.
It’s hilarious that no team “could work out a deal” when the Browns wanted SO LITTLE for him that they are giving him away for literally nothing. That should tell you something!
It’s all about the money. He still had a 8M contract. Why trade for that when everyone around the league saw a seis ration coming.
Tell us nothing genius. I’m sure you were posting similar remarks about Antonio Brown – who is one of Brady’s favorite targets.
Not criticism, just an observation, but whenever a “trouble maker” becomes available, the Seahawks are always interested.
It’s good to know that Florio also stated on Twitter that Seattle was OBJs preferred destination and OBJ and Russ train together in the offseason down in San Diego a lot.
