It sounds like Andy Dalton will be back in the lineup for the Bears on Thursday night. The veteran quarterback is expected to get the start for Chicago later this week, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport (via Twitter).
Rookie Justin Fields is currently dealing with a rib injury, thrusting Dalton back into the starting lineup. The 34-year-old has barely seen the field since starting Chicago’s first two games. Since then, Dalton has appeared in two contests, completing 12 of his 24 pass attempts for 209 yards and two touchdowns.
Fortunately, it sounds like it’s more of a timing thing for Fields than anything else. The rookie spent the day undergoing more testing on his rib injury, but the turnaround time will ultimately keep Fields out of the lineup. Rapoport adds that the young QB has “been making major strides,” and it sounds like he’ll be back for the Bears before long. Fields has started eight of his 10 games this season, throwing four touchdowns vs. eight interceptions.
More injury notes from around the NFL:
- Saints tight end Adam Trautman had a career day yesterday, but it came at a cost. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports (via Twitter) that Trautman suffered a sprained MCL that will keep him sidelined for the next four to six weeks. Presumably, the former third-round pick will end up seeing a stint on the injured reserve. Trautman had a standout game on Sunday against the Eagles, finishing with five catches for 58 yards and one touchdown.
- Saints defensive back C.J. Gardner-Johnson landed on injured reserve a few weeks back, but it doesn’t sound like he’ll be sidelined for much more than the three required weeks. Rapoport tweets that Garden-Johnson’s expected recovery time from his foot injury is only three to four weeks. The 23-year-old started each of the Saints first seven games this season.
- Saints quarterback Jameis Winston underwent surgery on his ACL earlier this month, but ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler tweets that the procedure “did not include an MCL repair.” While there was damage to the MCL, doctors believe the ligament was still strong enough to heal on its own.
- Seahawks rookie cornerback Tre Brown is likely done for the season, as Pete Carroll acknowledged that Brown will likely require season-ending knee surgery. “This is just the day after and it looks like surgery is imminent,” Carroll said (h/t Charean Williams of ProFootballTalk.com). “Yeah, so he would be [done for the year].” The fourth-round pick has gotten into five games (three starts) this season, collecting 10 tackles and one pass defended.
Doesn’t matter who plays QB as long as Nagy is around. Worst Coach in any Football League. Pee Wee, HS, College, Rugby and NFL. Desai not ready for this either. Wasn’t a Pagano fan either but it’s time to clean house. Pace, Nagy, New Owners would probably help.
So the first Thanksgiving game not worth watching again. Dumb vs. Inept. Stay tuned, Or not, in my case. I think Bowling is on. The Lions should be banned from Thanksgiving. A long overdue idea.
History lesson: The Lions playing on Thanksgiving was happening long before the NFL was even around. It was the Lions’ idea to play on Thanksgiving in 1934 to promote attendance, and it worked. They’ve been playing that game ever since. It has been a tradition in Detroit for 8 decades, but let’s strip them of their own tradition because you’re simply not entertained enough.
With Thanksgiving coming, the irony of your comment is too rich. Do you gripe about them playing the Charlie Brown Christmas Special every year too?
Somebody call the burn ward
They can play. Just don’t subject the rest of the country to the “spectacle”.
History Lesson 101. Just because it was their idea, doesn’t mean it should continue if they stink. Detroit also came up with the Edsel. Was that a good idea too? Get serious.
Maybe, and hear me out on this, you could just be thankful for what you have on Thanksgiving.
Love how Bears fans laid all the blame on Mitch Trubisky for 3 years and now shift it to Nagy.
Mitch really does suck tho. Defense carried him
But did Trubisky stink because of Nagy? Everyone said Cutler stunk too but he had a different O Coordinator every year and they all stunk. Chicken or the egg? Only if Mitch gets to play again will we know. Somebody will give him a shot.
That’s how you see it? You realize that those things are not mutually exclusive, right?
Nagy truly does suck.
And who is Trubisky starting for these days?
meh. In Chicago Nagy got a pass for a couple of seasons because he was new. He’s getting hammered now because after 4 years, the offense has made very little if any strides, even with Fields, who is far superior to Trubisky. Pace has also gotten a ton of grief for picking him over Mahomes and Watson. Hopefully, they’ll both be gone after the season ends. But make no mistake, Trubisky sucked in Chicago.
Fields is far superior to Trubisky? I hate to compare bad to worse here, but how so?
More mobile, has a stronger arm, is more accurate, especially in downfield throws, and stays calm under pressure. “Bad to worse”? You couldn’t be more off in your assessment.
Trubisky, as bad as he was, never had a 2:1 interception to touchdown ratio. Soooo…
Sooo. Aikman, Manning and many more rookie QBs had horrendous stats their first year. That doesn’t hold up.
They didn’t struggle to pass for 100 yards a game. They didn’t have, again, a 2:1 interception ratio. I mean, there’s no real other way to spin it. Fields has been REALLY bad. That doesn’t mean that he can’t get better, but as of right now, Trubisky certainly is the better QB judging by his stats. You may be right regarding Fields’ potential, but at least wait until the guy has thrown five touchdowns to crown him clearly better than the last Bears QB to make the playoffs.
I agree that we have to wait and see how good Fields can be. But if you watched the second half of the Pittsburgh game you saw what he could do with decent protection and all of his receivers on the field and clicking. He made some throws that Trubisky (in three seasons) never made. True, he’s had some tough games, but I also think he’s flashed some big time talent. I look forward to what a new coach and GM can do to help him grow. Next year and the year after is when we can more accurately judge.
