The Steelers have been receiving trade inquiries on pass rusher Melvin Ingram, according to NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport. Even though Ingram hasn’t necessarily impressed in Pittsburgh, teams are interested in adding his experience at an affordable salary.
Another club would only have to pay Ingram the prorated portion of his $1.075MM base salary, since the Steelers have already paid his $2.925MM signing bonus. It’s not clear which teams have called on the veteran, but RapSheet notes that the Chiefs have been on the lookout for edge help. The Chiefs were also among the teams to meet with Ingram in the offseason, prior to his July deal with Pittsburgh.
The Steelers appear to be listening on Ingram, per Rapoport, a sign that a deal could come together soon. The Steelers have a little over week until the Nov. 2 trade deadline if they want to turn the 32-year-old into future draft capital.
Ingram’s knee trouble held him to just seven games for the Chargers last year. But, before that, he notched 49 career sacks en route to three straight Pro Bowls from 2017-19. He had exactly zero sacks in 2020, but Pro Football Focus gave him a solid 76.3 pass-rushing score, good for top-20 among all OLBs/DEs.
So far this year, Ingram has ten tackles, one pass defensed, and one sack across six games.
Man, I get it from a business/Football perspective for the trade, as he is purely a rental in a team that while not quite a full rebuild phase, is needing reconstructing which mean they need draft picks. As much as I want Melvin to stay in the burgh, I understand why they are listening especially with Highsmith Golding his own and Tuitt coming back.
Ingram and Washington for Jimmy G.
Big Ben is old, isn’t very good and not signed for next season. Steelers need a new QB while they still have a somewhat open window at the playoffs. Jimmy would be moving to a team which has multiple good WRers and a good young RB.
And would again be relying on a good defence and coach however he has lead his team to the SB in the past.
49ers on the other hand have Trey Lance and don’t need Jimmy, they have other issues.
Ingram would be a huge boost to that defence and would be another big name player to go with Bosa, Armstead, and Warner. Washington gives them another good WR which they need, only 1 WR on this team has over 100 yards.
Both teams kind of just get a little boost
No thanks
Nooooooooooo
Why no ?
Jimmy G I believe is an upgrade on Big Ben and heading into next season is an upgrade over Mason Rudolph.
Jimmy has a better completion, better QBR and better rating.
For the 9ers, Trey Lance is the future. Yes he hasn’t been as good as Jimmy but he’s a rookie which has only 2 good receiving options and not a lot of help running the ball.
Washington gives him another WR (not a great one but he could turn it around and be nice). Ingram comes in and adds to the defence which has been inconsistent. They rank 6th in yards allowed but 16th in points allowed.
Pittsburgh doesn’t need a new QB. They need linemen.
Ben sucks and is about to retire. They need a QB
Ben’s done. He only came back to pad his stats. I predict the Steelers draft Kenny Pickett.
Andre Dillard?
Jimmy G would keep us mediocre even if he’s an upgrade
can they just call up kenny pickett from the jv team in pitt?
Yeah he’s not a huge upgrade but your also not giving up much. What would you rather, Jimmy or head into next year with Rudolph as your starter ?
Throw in Mason too!!!!
To Denver along with a late round pick for Drew Lock. Any coaching staff in the NFL can get more from Lock than Denver has.
Seems odd that a LB would have the jersey number 8. Don’t recall ever seeing that before.
Plus the picture is misleading. I had to read the article.
I guess they got me again!
I can’t remember the Steelers being sellers.
Literally ever.
