The Packers extended their win streak from three to six games without Marquez Valdes-Scantling, who has missed the mandatory three weeks while on IR. But Green Bay’s wide receiver situation suddenly looks dire ahead of its Week 8 matchup with Arizona.
Davante Adams and Allen Lazard are out for Thursday night’s game, and ESPN.com’s Jeremy Fowler tweets Valdes-Scantling is looking unlikely to be activated by this afternoon’s deadline. MVS made the trip and became eligible to come off IR this week. But the contract-year wide receiver may have 10 more days to recover from the hamstring injury that sent him to IR.
Green Bay placed Adams and Lazard on its reserve/COVID-19 list on Monday and Tuesday, respectively. Adams tested positive for the coronavirus, while Lazard landed on the virus list as a high-risk close contact — a distinction only pertaining to unvaccinated players in 2021. Adams is vaccinated but did not complete the two negative tests required to return to action.
Adams has served as Green Bay’s No. 1 wide receiver for years, and his 744 receiving yards lead the 2021 Packers by a staggering total. Aaron Jones and Lazard have 186 and 184, respectively. MVS serves as the Packers’ top deep threat, having led the NFL in yards per reception (20.9) last season.
This trio being sidelined leaves Randall Cobb and rookie Amari Rodgers as Aaron Rodgers‘ top wideout options, though Jones certainly factors into this equation alongside tight end Robert Tonyan. The Packers are also elevating wideout Juwann Winfree for tonight’s game, Mike Garafolo of NFL.com tweets. A 2019 Broncos sixth-round pick, Winfree has played in three Packers games over the past two seasons but has yet to record a regular-season reception.
Should be a good game tonight!
If everybody hates Thursday games why do they continue to watch them? For trivia fans, who can name the winning HC the last time the Cardinals and Packers played a Thursday game?
My guess is people like football more than they hate that 1 game is played on Thursday night every week for no reason other than the NFL can rake in more tv revenue from it.
I’ll even go 1 further. I hate Thursday night football, AND that we’re subjected to Buck and Aikman a second time every week, but I’ll still watch (this week) because the Pack is playing.
No idea who the winning coach was. Probably Lambeau back when the Cards were in Chicago, or Holmgren when they were in Racine…
We get football from Thursday to Monday. I love it! ESPN always has some college game Friday night. All day & night Saturdays, red zone Sunday, and MNF. Now if the game is a blowout or Jags vs Texans bad, I won’t watch.
I understand the short turnaround means more injuries. I don’t like that aspect. But 90% of what I watch is sports. I have NHL network on now watching a game.
Jimmy Conzleman, 1941. That was a fun search!
Arty?
Yeah right. Would have been if the Packers had a full team. Now it looks like it’s going to be a joke. Don’t understand how you think it’s going to be a good game
Aaron won’t fold, we all know that. But that AZ O is on fire! I think it’ll be a good 1st half, & the Cards pulling ahead in the 2nd half.
Well I guess u got that wrong didn’t you

The Cardinals record is fraudulent. Pretty much everybody they played has been missing key players.
Is Brian Gutekunst ever going to swallow his pride and admit the Packers need at least one more receiver? I’ve always thought Matt LaFluer was a little over-rated as a play caller, but I realize watching tonight that he is very limited in how he can call plays because he doesn’t have anyone he can count on to get open downfield. The guy who wants to be known as a McVay-style passing innovator is being forced to run the ball like Jimmy Johnson because there is no one to throw the ball to. AJ Dillon looks good tonight, they should split Aaron Jones out more.
Also, remember in the past when the Packers seemed to have an endless supply of anonymous, versatile, athletic O-linemen who they could plug and play to keep Rodgers upright? I wonder why they ran out of those guys? Keep patting yourself on the back BG.
A couple of those o-linemen are injured. Bak, Myers, and I’m not sure if anyone else noticed but Patrick was gimping on 1 leg for a good chunk of last night’s game.
