With a 1-6 record, the Texans have started to deal off some veterans…and it sounds like one of their locker room leaders is unhappy about the direction of the squad. Following tonight’s trade that sent Mark Ingram to New Orleans, Texans wideout Brandin Cooks took to Twitter to show his displeasure.

“This is bulls***,” Cooks said. “Such a joke.”
This obviously isn’t a great look for an organization that considers Cooks to be both a leader and a foundational piece (per ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Twitter). From Cooks’ perspective, the frustration makes some sense; per Aaron Wilson (on Twitter), Cooks and Ingram are “very close friends.”
The Texans have moved on from their starting RB, they’re expected to trade franchise quarterback Deshaun Watson, and they recently put defensive leader Zach Cunningham on the trading block. While the front office apparently has future plans for Cooks, there’s no denying that he’s one of the organization’s best trade chips (especially considering he’s only owed $1.5MM for the rest of the season, per ESPN’s Field Yates on Twitter). Earlier today, the 28-year-old had a much more measured response when asked about potentially being traded (via Wilson on Twitter).
“At the end of the day, guys know it’s a business,” said Cooks. “We go to do the best we can. All that type of stuff takes care of itself. It’s a decision that’s out of your control.”
Despite the uncertainty at the quarterback position, Cooks has still put up solid numbers in 2021. Through the first seven games, the veteran wideout has hauled in 45 receptions for 502 yards (albeit with only one touchdown).
They got something of value for a washed RB? Seems like a good move
Players crack me up. When it’s contract time they want their money but when the franchise is making moves to create long term value to exchange with players down the line they frown too. Cmon now
Players are people, capable of the same emotions as you and me, and at contract time I would want my money and at 1-6 I would want my friend to stick with me on the team because we suck…fans expect players to only act exactly as the abstract they have in their own minds, their humans who cares if they act human?
Very true and that may be his immediate reaction. But to also play devil’s advocate shouldn’t he be happy for his friend to get traded to a playoff contender and one last run with the Saints? Especially considering Cooks has quite a few more years left in him than Ingram
Yeah good points. But no one else acts like that in a business world. Do you publicly criticize your boss with expletives?
Not to their face.
oooooooooo sheeeesh
Exactly.
Fandom is fanatical, players should want their money because most NFL career’s aren’t very long.. • Players understand it’s a business and teams can trade or cut them at any time depending on the structure of the contract and guaranteed money remaining.
• Why do some fans think/expect players to be emotionless robots? Cooks reaction to Ingram trade isn’t only about their friendship, it’s also about being a competitor. If the Texans are parting ways with starters then they selling on this season any competitor would be pissed of to see the franchise they are with giving up on the season.
Green Bay should trade for Cooks!
Green bay would be great for him, but i think he wants a number one spot. i think he’d do great in miami(whether watson goes there or not), also the giants, baltimore(id love to see him play for my boiz), the raiders, the saints bc michael thomas is now just an injury waiting to happen so he could easily get the starting spot there, and possibly even the patriots. a few of those teams have a good QB who’s just waiting for a reliable player like cooks to throw the ball to. a few of those other teams have a QB who could be decent but has a bunch of nobodies to throw the ball to
Trade him – Green Bay Packers.
Packers get Brandin Cooks
Texans get Amari Rodgers, 2022 3rd round pick, 2024 2nd round pick.
He’s due 1.5 mill rest of this season. 12 mill next year. Packers probably franchise tag Adams. Gives them an elite # 1 and # 2 for whoever the QB is next year.
That is to much to give up for a player that can be a free agent and probably won’t be able to afford next year.
Cooks is under contract for next year at 12 mill. Idk how he can become a free agent unless the Packers release him in the off season. Being able to afford is one thing, but Rodgers is most likely gone and Lazard/Valdez are both free agents- Lazard is a RFA. They could probably afford Cooks.

No guaranteed $$ if Packers release him though
Too much I think a 2nd and maybe a 4th probably gets it done
Could the pats trade for cooks again? Lord knows they need a deep threat
Ha, Lord of Bones! Rattleshirt mf…
and cooks’ game literally is the deep ball game. short slants across the center or a vertical route with a cut inside or outside. gets em every time
Apparently QBs aren’t the only players who feel they can make better management decisions than the people in the front office.
For some reason, Cooks doesn’t like trades apparently.
