Earlier this month, the Colts promised Marlon Mack that they’d try to trade him elsewhere. But, as it stands, it doesn’t sound like teams offered enough for the running back (via NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport).
The Colts have received calls with reported interest from the 49ers, Panthers and Saints. However, the Niners aren’t quite as RB-needy as they were just a few weeks ago — JaMycal Hasty has been cleared to play against the Colts tonight while GM John Lynch says he’s bullish on Elijah Mitchell and Trey Sermon. Fellow RB Jeff Wilson could also return in a matter of weeks. Lynch characterized his talks with Indy as casual, given his relationship with GM Chris Ballard, but there’s little doubt that he’ll be paying attention to Mack this evening.
Prior to his Achilles setback, Mack totaled 1,999 rushing yards between 2018 and ’19. Behind Jonathan Taylor this year, Mack has gained 97 yards on 25 carries, good for 3.9 yards per tote. Of course, that’s been in a small sample size, so Mack is hoping to show his stuff elsewhere as a regular.
“I’m definitely young,” Mack said earlier this year. “That’s the thing. In this business as a running back, they say I’m an old man already, but I’m only 25…That’s why it’s like, ‘Man, I’ve got to go out there and get it now.’ Next year teams may be like, ‘Yeah, I don’t want that old running back.’”
What kind of access does Rapoport have if he couldn’t even reveal the Colts asking price for Mack?
Any team interested in Mack can have Barkley for the right pick
You’ve been beating that drum pretty hard…lol.
Colts severely over-value their excess players. Once Rivers was signed the Colts were asking for a First Round pick for Brissett. A guess is they’re asking for a Third or better for Mack…
Makes sense. He’s a solid player, but I’d be surprised if he got more than a sixth rounder.
I could see him getting a little more, given some teams’ desperation for a starter at the current time. I doubt that Indy will get a Day One pick, though. The ceiling, if just trading for Mack straight up, feels to me to be a third. One thing that will significantly affect this is whether Baltimore or Houston might be willing to deal one of their excess runners for a lower price. New Orleans, Kansas City, Carolina, Buffalo…any of those teams and a couple of others could make a move if they wanted to, or make a push for the playoffs.
New England is a team giving me pause, but I doubt that they trade for Mack. I could see them bringing in a familiar face in Burkhead, but I don’t think they’re in the running for Mack.
Chiefs need a back.
i’d say the top 5 teams he should go to are…
eagles, jets, panthers, giants, or the bills.
eagles i don’t see getting him, but he’d definitely be useful there. jets might, but the seem to like carter. panthers i’d say might trade for him for a better starter than hubbard, and once christian comes back they use mack for a backup. cause then when christian gets his annual injury, they’d have a solid RB to replace him and they wouldn’t immediately start tanking. giants i think should trade for mack, use him as a backup at least until the end of the season(and a starter while saquon is out) and next season, depending on how mack does, they trade him for a 4th round pick. the bills have singletary and zach moss. singletary is decent at best, and moss is only good in the red zone. trade for mack, have him for ur starter with singletary as the backup, and save moss just for like little 1st and goal on the 1 plays.
Historically, RBs don’t bounce back to their former self after an Achilles injury.
@nature boy, In this case, whats “historic” is irrelevant. Sports medicine gets better by the year. Had he gotten that injury back in 1985, he’d be in trouble. Also, u obviously haven’t been watching him play lately. He looks great.
I don’t consider it a career ended, but Mack hasn’t exactly played starting snaps, though. I don’t think that he’ll be bad, but all things considered, he may be better initially starting with a rotation on his new team.
