Buccaneers defensive back Sean Murphy-Bunting suffered an elbow injury during tonight’s season opener that will sideline him for at least the rest of the game. The team announced that Murphy-Bunting has been ruled out for the rest of the contest.
Murphy-Bunting suffered the injury in the first quarter in a play that saw Dak Prescott connect with CeeDee Lamb for a touchdown. The defensive back was seen holding his shoulder and arm while retreating back to the locker room.
Some pundits have speculated that Murphy-Bunting suffered a dislocated elbow, an injury that would likely sidelined the 24-year-old for a handful of games. Of course, we’ll learn more over the upcoming days about the player’s status moving forward.
Unfortunately for the Buccaneers, their cornerbacks depth isn’t a strength. Ross Cockrell moved to the nickle following the injury, with Carlton Davis and Jamel Dean playing the outside.
Murphy-Bunting, a 2019 second-round pick, has started 23 of his 32 games since entering the NFL. He had a career season in 2020, finishing with 70 tackles, three passes defended, and one interception. He also came up big during the playoffs, collecting three interceptions in four games.
Will someone pls tell that Biden of a coach that it might help dak to run some play action.
Biden of a coach? Biden? Way to interject politics into a totally apolitical post. Classless.
Despicable sure is accurate.
Is Zeke still on the cowboys?
Wait. Is your arm not supposed to swivel at the elbow?
Dallas completely threw the game away.
The Bucs practically gift-wrapped it for them.
Great game. Zac is back. Two of the best QBs in the business going head to head. Too many turnovers and too many flags for my taste but overall a very entertaining game.
Way too many flags, and dak did look good but the cowboys ain’t going anywhere throwing the ball 60x, the defense will get exposed as we so tonight (fluke TO aside) they MUST run the ball to have any measure of success.
That no-call on Chris Godwin was just awful. Good game up until then. Man, that was bad.
…….and the Oscar goes to…..
I disagree AK. (Not a fan of either team). I think the defender was falling down before Godwin extended his arms. He definitely pushed off but I believe the defender was already falling so if anything, Godwin helped him get there faster.
It doesn’t matter if the defender was about to fall, or overplayed it, or anything. Godwin extended his arms. He did it. When it happened in real time, I waited for them to back it up. They didn’t. Godwin is actually one of my favorite receivers in the league, but that was clear OPI. The rule doesn’t say “a little bit of PI doesn’t count” or “the other player must be in perfect position”. We see all the time where defenders get called for much, much less. Godwin used a push to get separation. That defender didn’t fall on his own, and Godwin’s arms extended. That’s OPI.
