After their efforts to trade up for a cornerback in the first round failed, the Saints are trying another upgrade avenue months later. They are exploring trade options at corner, Jeff Duncan of NOLA.com tweets.
This includes C.J. Henderson, whom the Jaguars may well be dangling in trades. The Jags are believed to be open to moving last year’s No. 9 overall pick, and Pro Football Focus’ Doug Kyed adds that Jacksonville’s new Urban Meyer-led regime is not as high on the Florida alum (Twitter link).
New Orleans returns Marshon Lattimore, but previous starter Janoris Jenkins became one of the team’s cap casualties this offseason. Interestingly, the Saints did acquire multiple corners — in third-rounder Paulson Adebo and veteran slot defender Brian Poole — this year. Adding Henderson or someone else on this level would certainly change the equation for the reigning NFC South champs, who made efforts to trade up for Jaycee Horn and Patrick Surtain II this year.
Lattimore is under contract for just one more season, but the Saints are believed to prioritize the former first-round pick over franchise-tagged safety Marcus Williams. A trade for Henderson would be pricey; the Jags are likely making him available only for a major return. But, like Minkah Fitzpatrick at the time he was dealt, Henderson would be attached to three more seasons of rookie-deal money. With Lattimore perhaps on the cusp of securing a top-market cornerback contract, a high-end rookie-deal complementary piece would make sense.
Saints really don’t have much draft capital, but Loomis does well with what he can. Throw Urban in a 2nd rounder, and autographed 8×10 glossy of Brees and another of Zion, and maybe they can make a deal?
Lol!
I think the Saints should keep their picks until they know about their QB’s. I don’t think either are going to pan out. Winston will be eating L’s more than W’s.
I think Jameis will surprise everyone and play really well in that system. I think he can play at a pro bowl level or near it in NO.
Jags should move their 1st rounders while they still have value cuz it seems like they’re all busts
Only the Jags can continually draft in the top 5-10 and continually find busts!
They’ve been too obsessed with finding in-state talent in several drafts but I think they’ve now learned they have to expand their scouting into other regions they previously ignored.
I really hope they didn’t draft players just because they played in Florida. That would be so bad.
Obviously the Jags wanted prospects with talent but they also understood the marketing value that home grown players have.

Interesting conversation. Actually, the Jags only seem to draft 1st rounders from the South East. At least from 2014. However, their scouting department found quite a few cokeheads WR’s and converted a QB to WR to cokehead; Matt Jones, earlier in the 2000’s.
There’s a reason I don’t go their games!
The Saints are going to suffer a fall-off similar to the cap-strapped Vikings from a couple years ago – thus they should preserve their picks in order to maximize the results of their 2022 draft, especially since they’ll get a bunch of middle round compensatory picks.
