The Giants have agreed to trade Isaac Yiadom to the Packers in exchange for fellow corner Josh Jackson (Twitter link via Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com).
Yiadom, 25, has now been traded twice inside of one year. The Giants acquired him from the Broncos in 2020 and went on to start him in ten games. He finished out the year with 46 stops, five pass breakups, one forced fumble, and a half of a sack. After the season, he agreed to a pay cut for 2021 — he’s now set to make $1.07MM this year instead of a non-guaranteed $2.15MM.
Jackson, also 25, was widely projected to be a mid-to-late first rounder in 2018. Instead, the Big Ten defensive back of the year slipped to the middle of the second round, where the Packers pounced on him at No. 45. He’s yet to break out as a pro, however. After starting in more than half of his games as a rookie, Jackson was first-string for only five contests between 2019 and 2020. Now, on the cusp of his walk year, he’ll have a chance to prove himself in New York.
As a giants fan idk what to think
Lol as a packers fan me either. Maybe a change of scenery helps one of them but Yiadom seems like he’s already moved around a bit, and I watched 4th/5th stringers put Jackson on wheels Saturday. Guessing both get cut.
Yiadom is honestly decent. He can definitely be a 2nd string for you if he was a first string for us last year
Eh, I thought he was pretty bad last year. Seemed slow and like he got burnt a lot. I don’t think this is much of a move for either team, just some shuffling around.
Yiadom in my opinion is slightly more valuable considering his experience as a starter. He disappointed overall in that capacity because he was overdrafted, but he is useful as a reserve, as long he is not put on an island with fast receivers. He is a bit stiff in flipping his hips and getting in and out of breaks, but he has decent size and has been a decent tackler at times.
Jackson is just kind of a bust all around, but he’s got good size at the position who the Packers tried occasionally at safety to make him fit. It seems like both were to be cut, but I think Yiadom has a better chance of sticking due to his experience.
Yeah, I agree with that assessment of Yiadom. Not a bad tackler but when he’s out in space he gets burnt big time.
Seems like a swap of former high picks who could both benefit from a change of scenery.
Josh Jackson would be better suited in a zone style defense. That’s what they played at Iowa while he was there then GB tried to convert him to man-to-man. It didn’t work.
Not sure about this trade. Maybe both players needed a change of scenery.
They wanted to use his size as a press corner, but from what I saw (not that I know much), Jackson seemed like a downhill runner more suited for zone coverage. He didn’t have the get back speed to run with receivers as a man corner. At least, that’s how it seemed to me.
One of those “no-lose” trades. Both were likely going to be cut at some point this pre-season so neither team loses anything by taking a chance on a different guy.
This is maybe a change of scenary or maybe change of each teams approach to defense. I don’t think either guy will have an pact. As a Packers fan I can say Josh Jackson can’t cover himself. I counted at least 5 times he got beat on Saturday night. Sometimes you don’t know if someone missed an assignment but you could tell by his reaction he was just toast. Maybe in a zone he can help but one on one he just couldn’t cover.
Is this yet another move orchestrated by new de facto GM Aaron Rodgers ???
Already a tired and uneducated argument. Let it go. You look foolish.
Issac yankem dds
Unabomber, Fake Diesel, Kane
No clue. I do remember Sehorn was great before the injury.
Yiadom has close to 500 special teams snaps in his career. That is far more valuable than anything “Grabby Jackson” offers.
