The Bears and 49ers both managed to make notable upgrades in the middle of August. Now, we have details on their recent deals, courtesy of ESPN.com’s Field Yates (Twitter link):
- Bears OT Jason Peters: One-year, $1.75MM deal. $1.075M base salary. $250K signing bonus.
- 49ers LB Mychal Kendricks: One-year, $1.215MM deal (minimum salary benefit). $200K guaranteed with a cap charge of $866K.
Peters, a nine-time Pro Bowler, agreed to terms late last week. He’ll help to solidify the line in the wake of Teven Jenkins’ back surgery. While the second-round rookie recovers, he’ll slot in as the left-side starter opposite of Lachavious Simmons. Still imposing at the age of 39, Peters is not far removed from his stellar 2019 campaign — Pro Football Focus graded Peters as its No. 6 overall tackle that season.
Kendricks, meanwhile, is looking to bounce back from legal turmoil and health issues. Now 30, Kendricks played in just one game last season. On the plus side, he is another year removed from his 2019 ACL tear.
I’m thinking the guy must need the money $$$…everybody else took a pass on him.
Anything wrong with working because you need the money???
Nothing wrong with that, but it is odd that a guy who’s made $116 Mil over his long career to be playing at 39 for only $1.75 Mil. OL is a grueling position to be doing it “for the love of the game”
Obviously you have never played sports or have a love for something that is so temporary when you are told you can’t do what you love anymore it sucks and when it’s over it over I say play as long as you can because once it’s over your life can become very mundane and unfulfilling. Going from 50-60k fans screaming for you to the silence is the worst for an athlete
The Bears will have to limit Peters to a couple of offensive series each half. Otherwise he will just break down and spend a month on the IR.
They gave him bonuses, they should also dock him. Every false start or trip to the blue sideline tent costs $10k, he might end up owing them money.
The Bears & Pace are lucky his available Bear down o-Line make Montgomery a all pro.
Yeah real lucky, just like Philly thought last year. Nobody wanted him last year other, an injury gave him leverage and they upped his pay then laid down for the paycheck.
Former Arkansas Razorbacks TE, Jason Peters
Pace drafted an injured OL! It never ends with this clown, they have spent more time and money on TE then OL. And both positions are weak!
