Dion Dawkins has not participated in team drills throughout Bills training camp, and Sean McDermott said the team’s starting left tackle is not close to being ready to return to full work. Dawkins landed on the team’s reserve/COVID-19 list July 28 and required hospitalization after contracting the virus, Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN.com reports.
The 6-foot-5, 320-pound lineman was hospitalized for four days after developing severe COVID-19 symptoms. Dawkins lost 16 pounds and may have an uphill battle to be ready by the time the Bills begin their season.
“He’s not close to where he needs to be to play and help us,” McDermott said. “So he’s got a long road here. … He’s going to control what he can control, and so are we. He’s got to continue to work hard to get himself back to where he’s — I mean, this is what, going on Week 4 of training camp at this point, so he’s missed a lot of time.”
The Bills activated Dawkins off their reserve/COVID list late last week, and he has begun doing conditioning work. Dawkins, 27, was not considered fully vaccinated at the time of the hospitalization. Dawkins’ hospitalization marks another rough step for the Bills on the virus front. Tight end Tommy Sweeney missed all of the 2020 season after developing myocarditis, a heart condition associated with COVID-19.
Dawkins’ status, of course, will have a bigger impact on the Bills. He is in the first season of a four-year, $68MM extension and has been the team’s left tackle starter since 2017. Buffalo has given third-round rookie Spencer Brown the bulk of its left tackle reps during camp. The team drafted Brown out of Northern Iowa with the No. 93 overall pick.
1st question was he vaccinated? That’s the raging debate now. Plenty of stories about fully vaccinated people getting Delta, and plenty more of non vaccinated in the ER.
He was. The vax doesn’t work. It’s a pacifier for the weak in mind and spirit.
He contracted COVID shortly after his second dose, so he was NOT fully vaccinated.
Not sure if you understand, but he if got delta AFTER the 2nd dose, it means it’s not that effective.
Not sure if you understand, but it takes time for a vaccine to be effective. And the reduction in hospitalizations earlier this year proved it worked. You aren’t a virologist so don’t act like you are…
He was partially vaccinated — not fully. GTFO here with your ignorance
Read the article…
And some people still say covid is fake… LOL
People dont say that Covid is fake. They say that its not as dangerous as news outlets make it out to be.
Good try on the spin, I guess, but…we all know full well there are many people who absolutely claim Covid is fake.
It’s only real when they can blame China for creating it or blame Mexican for spreading it. Otherwise, “it’s a hoax” or “just the flu renamed” or a “plandemic”.
Freezer trucks on their way to Texas to store all of the soon to be dead bodies because it’s not dangerous, I guess.
Maybe more in the beginning of the pandemic they believed that but after almost 2 years, you rarely see people claim its a hoax anymore. It is claimed by many to be not as dangerous and for many without underlying conditions, it is only like a bad case of the flu. The problem some people resist being told what to do and only when its too late, they actually realize how dangerous covid can be.
Talk about spin. Freezer trucks? Get a grip.
Spin, yep.

Plenty say it’s a hoax. And those who say that it isn’t dangerous are fools. The kind of people who have to touch the burner before respecting its power. “I should’ve gotten the vacci—“DEAD.
Did you wear a mask or social distance back in 2003 when we had the SARS outbreak? No?
Well this is SARS again and for some dumb reason, stupid people “masked up and social distanced” and believed it was the “safest thing to do”. In other words, they just bent over and let their gov’t insert a phallic object up their bum cuz they liked it.
Dude, SARS is real but it’s not even lethal or dangerous. We have had several SARS outbreaks in the past and they’re overhyping this recent SARS outbreak cuz they wanted to see if they can control us (read: control the idiots who’s blind to notice that it’s just SARS and we survived it many times in the past).
Wake tf up man. You’re embarrassing yourself.
A 5% weight loss doesn’t sound like a major deal to me. Don’t players often lose that much due to dehydration during games where the field hovers around 90-100 degrees?
There is a difference between losing water weight due to dehydration and muscle mass due to an illness.
He’s probably out of shape and lacks bulk and power required of the position.
Pretty nonsensical claim you made there.
Where in this article are the words “muscle mass”?
Where are the words dehydration? You don’t get dehydrated in a hospital, because they hook you up to fluids.
What does happen, especially if you are an athlete, is you lose muscle mass because you aren’t working out, and muscle mass is heavier.
If he was in the hospital for four days, he probably didn’t do any significant conditioning work for at least a week, and probably longer since COVID literally impacts the lungs.
If he has lost muscle – which he most certainly did – and is no longer conditioned, it easily explains why he isn’t ready.
I haven’t said a thing about Dawkins. The author of the article is implying that a 5% weight loss is a big deal and I am questioning that. I feel that almost anyone can drop 5% of their weight in a short span of time and with no adverse health effects by simply making smart food choices and cutting junk calories out of their diet. My weight is down about 10% since the start of this year and I certainly don’t keep myself as active as professional athletes do.
The article is implying that a 5 percent loss in weight is a big deal FOR A LEFT TACKLE IN THE NFL. What part of that don’t you understand?
Are you having violent collisions trying to push 280 lb- 315 lb men who can bench 225lb 30 times out of the way?
And are you suggesting there are no adverse effects to losing weight as a result of lying in a bed with a respitory illiness? That this is the same as not drinking beer?
It’s a dumb comparison.
Even his coach is worried, most likely because losing that weight and the loss of conditioning will hurt his ability to do his job. It’s a big deal.
The hospital staff didn’t feel it was a big deal. They let him walk out the door after just 4 days.
You think a four day hospitalization is normal? People who have major surgey aren’t even in the hospital for four days. Women who have c-sections, are at most in the hospital for four days. If he was hospitalized for four days, it was a big deal. Goodness you are dense.
Yeah, everyone needs to bow down to Biden’s puppets and get vaccinated over a flu with a 99.9% survival rate.. There are very clear groups of people who are “at risk” and his fat ass is clearly in that group. Fact is, most people who catch it, either don’t even know they have it or experience very little symptoms. And btw, it DID come from China. If u think otherwise..you’re brainwashed beyond help.
I chose to get vaccinated to protect those people at risk. The immuno-compromised should not have to deal with this. The more people vaccinated, the lower the likelihood of the virus mutating into another variant
Btw, while the virus did come from China, it doesn’t mean we get to sit here pointing fingers instead of resolving the problem when we have ample opportunity (get vaccinated). Coronavirus is not a political issue; stop trying to make it one
Unfortunately leaky vaccines, such as the COVID-19 vaccines currently in use, promote viral mutation through selection pressure. That scientific reality is well documented. (If you’re interested, check out the research on Marek’s disease.)
What is needed to prevent the virus from mutating into progressively more virulent strains is a broader, less targeted vaccine. The current mRNA vaccines are leaky and do not prevent infection by variants which have totally supplanted the original pathogen.
That’s not to say we should not be vaccinated for the prophylactic benefit of milder symptoms. But evolutionary pressure on the virus will continue. Be prepared for many boosters until more effective vaccine options are available (the good news is there are some in development.)
That is definitely true and certainly worth pointing out. My main argument was more oriented toward the fact that our failure to reach herd immunity allowed the virus to propagate long enough that it could mutate into a different variant.
It’s debatable as to whether or not we could have effectively eradicated the original strain via rapid vaccination before the Delta variant arose, but our collective stubbornness did not improve matters.
But your point is a good one: the virus largely mutated in ways it could elude the current MRNA vaccines. It’s unfortunate we’re even in this mess, but that’s just reality at this point
@wagner13 lol “protect those people at risk” and you’re gonna get the coof over and over for the rest of your life cuz the “vaccine” you took? It only protects you from one particular strain, leaving you vulnerable to other strains like the Delta, Gamma, Lambda and other variants.
Boy are you dumb or what? You didn’t protect anyone, let alone yourself cuz you can’t do independent research. You just let your T.V. do the research for you.
BTW, the “immuno-compromised should not have to deal with this” then they should just stay home and let us go out normally. If they want to go out, then they have to understand the risk of going out but the reason why they’re “immuno-compromised” is because they abuse the antibacterial gel (99.99% kills the bacteria INCLUDING THE GOOD BACTERIA THAT FIGHTS THE BAD BACTERIA) and sanitizes everything in their home cuz they don’t want their immune system to develop cells that will fight the “baddies” in their bodies.
Come on Man!
My sister’s immunocompromised and recently covered from C. Diff. Colitis.
She is not of the “freak” stereotype you just described. Nor are most immunocompromised individuals. I guess they should just stay home and never do anything.
Thanks for the support /s
Yep definitely has to do with their antibacterial gel and not any other medical conditions that might actually weaken their immune system. SCID, AIDS, lupus, diabetes, people in chemo…all of them must use too much antibacterial gel!
The vaccine is the cause of the variants!!! Not the other way around.
Exactly, if not for Biden’s mind control people wouldn’t seek out medical advice or technology in order to not die. Puppets!!!
Literally every politician and media figure telling you to not get vaccinated is vaccinated. All of them. Don’t ask yourself any questions about why they risk your life but not their own.
PS- “His fat ass” is an NFL player. Not sure why the deep fried Twinkie crowd thinks this is the glass house in which to throw stones…
First off, 99.9% is a made up stat. Secondly, 2020 had many more total deaths than any year in history. You’re the brainwashed one if you think it’s the same as the flu. I’m glad you haven’t known anyone to be severely affected by this yet. Once you do, you’ll see it’s not the flu. I’ve never known someone to die or be hospitalized by the flu. I know two people who died now and 4 that have been hospitalized. Oh, and just because it came from China, doesn’t make it China’s fault. I don’t remember anyone calling the Swine Flu the America virus since it started in the US.
Fat ass diabetic hypertensive sister in law had it, fat ass brother had it twice, and they never had to go to the hospital. Moreover, the PCR test will no longer be used after December 31 because the CDC reported that the test gives 91% false positives!!! Think about that doom and gloomer!!! So here is some simple math that you can do – take the US deaths from SARS (lets include the ones that were shot and killed, motorcycle accidents, fell off of a roof) – divide that number by the total number of people that have had “cases” – and that is the survival rate of this plandemic. This was all about getting the “vaccine” into peoples arms!!!
Good work. You hit all the Breitbart talking points.
Love the idiotic 99% survival rate crowd because they’re clearly ignoring so much, like:
(A) death rate is closer to 2.5%
(B) a covid hospital stay is very expensive, like anyone in America could go bankrupt from something like this or be left with a 10k bill WITH good insurance
(C) a covid hospital stay is gonna really really hurt/be uncomfortable
If you don’t have insurance, then it’s free. That’s an issue right there. I’ve been in many 2nd world countries. If a patient goes to a hospital there, better have cash; It aint free.
Which system are you saying is better?
The system were people without money are left to die or the one where they are not?
Mortality rate increases really dramatically with age. An individual’s actual risk can be calculated. Those under 50 have less than 0.2% mortality rate. Among those 50-59, the rate increases to about 1.5% in males, less in females. For each decade over 60 the mortality rate increases exponentially. Men over 85 have a whopping 40-50% mortality rate. So to those over 60, especially with a known comorbidity, your risk of death is not insignificant.
624000/37300000=.0167.
There you go boys – total “covid” deaths divided by total number of cases give you the kill rate. eat that buttercups!!!
Youngsters are now growing in numbers of having RSV, a respiratory illness because they WORE MASKS! Their immunity system never got up to speed and there will be all sorts of people getting all sorts of illnesses because they destroyed their own immune system by being cattle lead to the slaughter by a few pin head government jugheads who like having absolute power. You are the guinea pigs. No doubt.
I hope he fully recovers.
To all the super -smart republicans and democrats, please take your stupid political bullshit to some other website, both of your parties suck ass.
