Another update to pass along in the developing Richard Sherman case. The star cornerback was arrested early this morning for “burglary domestic violence,” and that’s not all.
He’s also being investigated for a hit and run an hour or so prior to the incident, and police say a K9 was used to take him down after he became “combative” with them. Needless to say, it’s a serious situation, but fortunately it now sounds like the worst was avoided. Even though he was arrested for alleged domestic violence, Sherman’s wife Ashley Moss issued a statement to Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times that nobody was hurt.
“At this time we’re going to make no statements, except he didn’t harm anybody,” Moss said. “My kids were not harmed in the incident. He’s a good person and this is not his character. We’re doing all right, just trying to get him out. I want people to know no one was injured.”
As Moss alluded to the family is still trying to get him out of jail because he’s currently being held without bail. They might have to wait a bit. Sherman hasn’t been formally charged yet and can’t be until he appears in court, which won’t be until Thursday afternoon, Adam Schefter of ESPN.com tweets. So Sherman will remain in King County Correctional Facility for at least another day.
This is great news that there apparently wasn’t any physical violence, but it certainly doesn’t mean that Sherman is off the hook. He still may be in big trouble, and it will likely take a while to fully play out. We’ll keep you posted as we hear more.
I hope this is true but Sherman it’s time to call it a career (a hall of fame career) you’ve had a great run now it’s time to focus on your health and family and once your done with that become a coach
Before you get all giddy that Richard Sherman didn’t cause any physical harm and therefore did nothing wrong maybe you should study domestic violence law. Many times the victim will change his or her mind when it comes down to seeing the meal ticket facing jail time and the prospect of no more money. Plus just because no physical harm occurs and the victim decides not to prosecute the state can still prosecute. The abuse of women by NFL players continues and nobody cares because all most people
care about is the fact that the hero football player can avoid jail time.
This guy gets it
Hit the nail on the head. A LOT of domestic violence cases get dropped because the wife/girlfriend ends up recanting and won’t testify against the guy. The police had to have probable cause to arrest him, so he did something to harm her in some way. May not have caused any lasting harm and she’s fine, but he did something. And that’s all that matters.
He was never accused of hitting his wife nor was he charged with that. His wife called 911 because he went into his in-laws house and got physical by wrestling with a relative of hers (uncle) .
I hadn’t heard about the uncle part of it, but my main point was that he did something. The wife was trying to do damage control and act like everything was fine. Clearly not the case.
Then I suggest you listen to the actual 911 call; not sure why so many posted comments on the situation based on pure speculation when the call was made available for all to listen. Wife doing damage control? She was fearful her husband was going to do something even more stupid than he already had up to that point, and mostly fearful that he was going to do it to himself.
My comment about his wife doing damage control is in reference to her comments that this article is about, not the 911 call. Thought that was obvious.
Also, I would like to clarify that in my state domestic violence can only occur between household members. So, yeah, I did assume it was against his wife because that’s almost always what it is in my state. If he were in my state, his uncle who lives elsewhere wouldn’t qualify as a household member and it would just be a regular battery. So yeah, when I see “domestic violence” based on my experience I automatically think wife/girlfriend, husband/boyfriend or kids.
@randomguy7654, not true. You and other people should stop acting like you know because you don’t. I wasn’t there so I don’t either. The police do all kinds of things without probable cause, that we all know is a fact.
Police simply do their jobs and are outstanding at doing their job!
@CK7, I am a police officer so I do know what I’m talking about. Are there corrupt police? Sure. Most of them aren’t lowly patrol officers though. And yeah, we don’t make arrests without probable cause because we actually have to show up in court and defend what we did and why, or face being sued, fired or even jailed ourselves.
Yeah, that seemed like an odd bit of editorializing by the author here. ‘This is great news’ seemed a bit out of place.
Randomguy7654 – thanks for what you do. Too many people are “piling on” to police officers, these days, when the vast majority of you are trying to do your job keeping law and order, and protecting those who are law abiding citizens. Thank you!
Adderall is real.
Addy never made me do no sht like this.
Is anybody actually surprised?
My thought exactly. He’s lived with a media that has been too aplogistic toward him, which always seemed incongruous with his apparent volatility.
Sorry for the wordiness: no, it surprised at all.
I just listened to the 911 call from earlier in the evening. His wife called and said that he drank two bottles of hard alcohol and was being belligerent. They tried to stop him from leaving because he said he would hang himself and that if the cops came he would fight them. He said he was going to his in-laws house. They chased him down in the car and he tried to cut them off and they called 911 again. He then wrecked his car and walked to his ex-in-laws house where he tried to enter the house. They called 911 and from there you know the rest of the story. So him going to his ex-in-laws house was pre-meditated so the question is what was he going to do when he got there.
At this point —- I wonder if actually having an agent would be helpful to him?
Someone to work with the media, local law, the NFL, the player sitting in the cell, or any other aspects that are not being attended to?
I imagine the reason he is without an agent is because they all advised him a veteran minimum offer would be worth accepting…but he has rejected that idea.
Can we get another thread going on the same story!
Typical. Preaches one thing snd does another. Big mouth ass&$@$
Poorly typed article!
Sherman didn’t get into the house, did he? I read he was pounding and yelling outside the front door. Big whoop. The complaint was needed, the coos did what they should do … but that is that. Property damage falls into the violence category. Facts will come out, but nothing suggested he harmed anybody.
3 consecutive pieces that read like soap opera scripts. I thought maybe I stumbled onto TMZ..
“Nobody was injured” and “nothing happened” are two different things. I hope whatever happens, the right outcome is reached, but other than that, it’s disingenuous for me to pretend I know more than anyone else. Let the people whose job it is to investigate/prosecute do what they need to, be patient, and then make your mind when you can see more details from more perspectives.
And so goes the Jets interest in acquiring him……
There is also a charge called “ terroristic threats and acts “ he should have been charged with that as well.
