It’s been a quiet week, but drama is now brewing in New England. Patriots receiver N’Keal Harry has requested a trade, his agent Jamal Tooson announced Tuesday, via Mike Garafolo of NFL Network (on Twitter).
Tooson says in his statement that “for the past several months,” he’s been “working in cooperation with the Patriots behind the scenes to put a plan in place to allow N’Keal to thrive in New England.” “Following numerous conversations” with the team, Tooson apparently came to the conclusion that it would be best for N’Keal to get a fresh start “before the start of training camp.” As such, he is “formally requesting a trade on behalf” of his client.
Harry was taken with the last pick of the first-round in 2019, and has been a disappointment as a pro. The Arizona State product starred in college but only has 45 catches in 21 career games with the Pats. It’ll be very interesting to see what the trade market looks like for him, if there is one at all.
As a first-round pick, the next two years of Harry’s salaries are fully guaranteed. He’s still only 23, but the fact that he has struggled to get looks with the Patriots’ less than impressive receiving group isn’t a good sign.
As a rookie he was limited to seven games by an ankle issue, but he played a bigger role in 2020. He finished the season with 33/309/2 in 14 games and nine starts, but currently finds himself behind guys like Jakobi Meyers, Kendrick Bourne, and Nelson Agholor on the depth chart.
Chicago could use him.
Yep, send Anthony Miller there in return
I don’t know. Miller has been sporadic but has shown way more than this guy has.
Vikes send a 7th round pick for him.
DAMN! I didn’t realize that his numbers were that bad! I don’t see the Patriots getting much in return for N’Keal Harry.
Prob a 5-7th
Yeah I don’t see anyone wanting to take on those dollars based on what he’s put on tape.
Teams will likely wait for him to get let go and clear waivers.
Salary wouldn’t be a huge issue for acquiring team as the signing bonus cap hits would stay in NE
Good point, but still committing $3.5 mil total in guaranteed dollars to a guy that has shown less than nothing on a team desperate for WRs.
In a Cap strapped year, this just feels like a guy who clears waivers before he changes jersey colors.
Very true…I guess someone would have to be more desperate than the Pats to trade for him or claim him
Wouldn’t mind him on the 49ers wanted them to draft him
Definitely the same here, I was a huge Harry fan coming out of college, and definitely wanted the 49ers to draft him, but man am I glad they passed, waited and got Aiyuk the following season.
Aiyuk looks like a steal and the real deal!! Between, he, Deebo, Kittle, Juice, Mostert, and Sermon they should be okay on weapons, but they’ll still need a bigger slot guy for 3rd Down and GL situations..
That’s especially if Hurd never gets healthy, and they can’t rely on either Jennings or Sanu..
Belichick should hire someone to manage WR acquisitions. Bill has proven to be incompetent with the position.
Maybe for drafting, he’s done a decent job trading for them
Didn’t they trade for one using a 2nd round pick and he done nothing since then. So I wouldn’t even say he decent at trading for them
sanu.
I think he has potential. He was a rookie in 2019 and played only in 7 games. Although his 2020 wasnt impressive look at the offense.
It is heavy run oriented with a limited Cam Newton as QB with little vertical threat passing. (I love Cam but he showed very little down field ability)
All true. If he’s released he’s worth a training camp shot. But New England is all about “team”. This guy seems to be all about “me”. And with no numbers to support it, I doubt anyone gives up anything to acquire him.
It has to be an amazing world when a player completely fails to meet expectations and yet still be in a position to demand a trade. Wish we call could live in the world of Harry.
To be fair he only been in the league two years and doesn’t look like he will improve with the pats. So why not look for a fresh start . Doesn’t hurt .
Wth Harry ain’t good enough to request a trade lol
“Formally requesting my client’s release from his rookie contract seeing as he has no trade value” just doesn’t have the same ring to it I guess?
“the fact that he has struggled to get looks with the Patriots’ less than impressive receiving group isn’t a good sign”.
True enough but if the entire receiving group is not impressive then maybe the bigger problem is behind center.
They didn’t do much with a certain somebody either. That someone bolted to a place with multiple All-Pros. It’s an all around issue, from gameplanning, to coaching, to the players, to the quarterback.
If they can’t find you time with that group of receivers…good look on your future endeavors.
Bears or 49ers make the most sense to me. Definitely saw this coming with the moves they made this offseason. He hasn’t really lived up to what they expected from him but he had terrible QB play last season. Potential is there.
What a world we live in – I love Harry coming out of ASU – but even his strongest supporters have to say he is a complete bust in the pros. His inability to get separation at the line is his downfall – along with a lack of speed.
Patriots should allow his agent to find a team that will trade for him – but he might realize he simply is not worth it and he needs to repair his image and skills before demanding anything
Chicago has been shopping a far more productive player in Anthony Miller and gotten no offers…Harry was a reach to be drafted as high as he was – and NE is far more likely to cut him than find anyone willing to give anything up for him.
I’m sure the Pats are going to get flooded with offers for this guy!
He would never clear wavers. I think Pats get a conditional 4th. I hope the Texans give him a shot. We are thin at outside WRs.
