Longtime Raiders president Marc Badain has resigned, per a club announcement. On Monday, owner Mark Davis issued a statement to thank Badain for his time with the team.
“Today I have accepted Marc Badain’s resignation as President of the Las Vegas Raiders,” Davis said. “Marc has been an integral part of the Raider Family for 30 years. Rising from a training camp driver to president of the entire organization. His efforts in helping to build the most magnificent stadium in the sports and entertainment capital of the world will never be forgotten. I wish Marc, his wife Amy, daughter Ali, and sons Bernie and Zach all the best in whatever the future holds. Once a Raider always a Raider.”
Badain has been with the Raiders in some capacity since 1991. In 2013, after Amy Trask resigned, he was named interim president. Then, in 2015, the interim label was removed. Badain mostly served the business side where he helped orchestrate the team’s move to Las Vegas.
Given the Raiders’ history of internal drama, there could be more to the story. For now, all we know is that Badain is out, with team EVP Dan Ventrelle replacing him in an interim capacity.
So RB Coach Kirby Wilson suddenly retired 72 hours ago and now Marc Badain resigns.
Something is not right in the sauce. I wonder why none of the usual “mouth pieces” have missed the skinny on this. At the very least, it’s all in house.
Are the Raiders cleaning house or are people fleeing a sinking ship?
As a Raider fan, I expect the worst.
The latter.
As a Raiders fan I understand that he has been with the organization for 30 years. That dates back to before being a black coach/player was a thing, Art Shell was the coach in Los Angeles.
Marc Badain was there through out the entire first Gruden term, Mike White, Joe Bugel, Cable beating the D-assistant, things were so much worse with Kiffin…. Hue Jackson wanted to fire the entire front office …..
Something doesn’t add up.
It could be that they hate Vegas, but given that Badain helped facilitate that, that may not be the case. I’m not arguing the perspective, but it it’s worth considering.
It’s gonna be a long season.
Other teams make executive changes and it’s business as usual but if the Raiders do likewise something nefarious must be going on? It’s comical and I’m sure Al Davis is having a nice chuckle from beyond the grave at how easily the media can still be duped.
Every NFL team should be jealous of that stadium. Damn that’s nice!
This smells of Mark Davis not wanting to have voices around him that tell him what he needs to hear. Things such as Gruden and Mayock are not qualified to run the football operation.
Your suggesting it took Badain 30 years to tell the owner something he didn’t want to hear? I’m not sure that makes any sense.
I’m suggesting Mark Davis has an unwarranted blind faith in Gruden that someone like Badain does not (much like Al Davis did not). And Mark Davis has been running the team for 10 years not 30.
Badain spent 30 years with the Raiders through many coaching changes so he certainly looks like a team player to me. I’m not aware of any animosity between him and Gruden and the coaching hire he should have objected to was Hue Jackson.
You don’t get it. It’s not Gruden the coach that is the problem it is Gruden the GM that is the problem along with his hand picked stooge Mike Mayock. I suspect that is what Badain saw just as many outside the organization do.
